Political Discussion Thread (With Rules)

Exciting night in Moore County, North Carolina. Several electrical substations were 'vandalized' leaving a whole lot of people in the dark. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/04/us/power-outage-moore-county-criminal-investigation/index.html https://www.wral.com/moore-county-authorities-investigate-social-posts-claiming-knowledge-of-moore-county-blackout/20612783/ Emily Grace Rainey, a former U.S. Army psychological operations officer, made several posts about it on social media, even saying in one post: “The power is out in Moore County and I know why." Rainey posted that she told deputies, "God works in mysterious ways ... I used the opportunity to tell them about the immoral drag show and the blasphemies screamed by its supporters.” After the power went out, Rainey posted a picture of the marquee where the drag show was scheduled to take place, claiming that God was "chastising Moore County." -

The head of the DOE, Sam Brinton, is arrested for stealing luggage. Infuriating. I was the one defending them for being very qualified and their being non-binary not meaning anything. Neither of those things have changed, but now I do regret standing up for them. -
regarding 5th ed. FMove martial maneuver element
Sociotard replied to Sociotard's topic in HERO System Discussion
It makes sense. 6d6 energy blast-wielding superheroes shouldn't get ranged attacks with Full-move, just low level types. Thanks! This isn't for a game anyway. Every now and then a hero concept pops into my head and I just have to flesh it out to get it out of mind. -
regarding 5th ed. FMove martial maneuver element

UMA, page 9, table of Ranged Martial Maneuvers "Moving Shot" cost 5, -1 OCV, +0 DCV, +0 Range, Strike FMove the restriction -1 OCV is 1 point. Nothing else distinguishes this from a regular Strike, so 6 points for making a ranged shot along a full move. -
How much does FMove cost as a *ranged* martial elemet maneuver element? 5th ed. Ultimate Martial Artist lists the normal FMove element as 3 pts. It does not list the element for Ranged martial arts, but one of the ranged martial maneuvers has it. The math on that one works out to 6 pts. Is that right? Ranged FMove costs double?

I have a Chi expert. I'd like to replicate the Tai Lung paralysis from Kung Fu Panda. (except my chi expert is an energy projector, so it'll have Range and a blast special effect) I don't want BOECV because the character should use normal OCV to blast the target and the target should use normal DCV to avoid getting hit. Can I just use the advantages "takes no damage from normal attacks" and "works against EGO not STR" to get Mental Paralysis? Related question: It'd be nice to allow skill-based attacks against the entangle. Yes, BOECV attacks should be able to attack the entangle as normal, but so should Professional Skill: Acupuncture, or maybe even Power Tricks: Chi Powers or Paramedics. Maybe make the roll, 11-, each point by which the character makes the roll does 1d6 against the entangle. Or maybe make the roll, 11- modified by the DEF of the Entangle, Success means the character subtracts their REC directly from the BODY of the Entangle, no further rolling or DEF considered. Has anyone done a mechanic like this? One more question, EGO instead of STR is a +1/4 advantage. What would BODY instead of STR be (if I decide that BODY is a better measure of Chi as the body's vital force)? My guess is still +1/4. What would (Lower of EGO or BODY) instead of STR be (if I decide that people can only harness as much vital force as they have will to do so)? My guess is +3/4.

They don't know Seeker, but they can understand acrobatic blond man with no shirt, loose pants with cuffed ankles, red belt and red sash, the sash is covered in shuriken and the man is weilding Kung Fu weapons. Well, sort of. I only just started trying this as a challenge.

Ukraine and Russia are accusing each other of preparing to pop a dirty bomb in a false flag operation. This article specifies preparations the Russians are taking to fight in a radioactive environment. https://www.reuters.com/world/russia-says-its-forces-are-preparing-work-under-radioactive-contamination-2022-10-24/ (That didn't work well in Chernobyl, and I don't trust radiation preparedness to the army that tells conscripts to go buy tampons for first aid) I wonder how it could be proved who set up a dirty bomb? -

Elon Musk personally rejected a Ukrainian request to extend his satellite internet service to Crimea, the SpaceX CEO fearing that an effort to retake the peninsula from Russian forces could lead to a nuclear war https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-blocks-starlink-in-crimea-amid-nuclear-fears-report-2022-10 Of course him needing Russian nickel has nothing to do with it. -
My wife has been binging Vampire Diaries. I considered running a "feuding monster types" draft. EITHER A: everybody picks two monster types. All the characters drafted get one of the two types applied. OR B: People just draft characters who have one of their two types.

Allegations that China has 'police stations' in Toronto and other large cities. China says these are like a consulate express for Chinese immigrants to conveniently get bureaucratic chores done. Human rights groups claim they help compel Chinese citizens to return. https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/its-entirely-illegal-for-china-to-open-police-stations-here-says-ottawa -

My feelings on the Marijuana issue conflict. I'm glad it is being done, but I'm annoyed it is being done, alongside student loan forgiveness, as an October surprise because his popularity was garbage. The right thing for the wrong reasons. -
