  1. Re: Ch'i Ki Qi ... Oh, the player wasn't complaining, he was just mentioning. See my later post as to why I'd just as soon change it anyway. I appreciate the input, though, and thanks for posting the Japanese lettering, could come in handy.
  2. Re: Wiggling your way out- Entangle based on Dex Yeah, I was going to suggest this. Another approach I might add would be an NND Entangle, getting out is successful DEX roll at -1/5 AP or such a thing, that should be fairly satisfactory, too, to many if not most GMs. I know this is ancient, but I wanted to suggest an NND Entangle because...well, it sounds cool...
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I'm really enjoying the influx of "new blood" into the HERO forums, at least in the on-topic forums (haven't participated enough in NGD to say at all over here, though I suspect it's good here, too, though every time I see a sociopolitical argument it strikes me as same-old-same-old).
  4. Re: Ch'i Ki Qi ... No, actually that was perfect, it confirms what else I was told, I just want to be thorough. Thank you very much! Also, it means I feel okay going with Qi, which I like the look of better (just personal). (rep for all will be forthcoming, but I have a serious backlog so may be a while!)
  5. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Hey, doesn't this water pistol look rea- AAAAGUGUGHHGH!" (hmmm, Thrak, I keep thinking about it, but I'm not getting yours? - PS/EDIT - Death Tribble answered, never mind) NT: Jerry Springer and Martha Stewart got married...elaborate!
  6. Re: Ch'i Ki Qi ... I"m definitely seeing Qi around and someone said it is a more "contemporary" transliteration. Any thoughts on that? I'm tempted to go with Qi just because it looks good...but if nobody knows what the heck I'm talking about I'll use Ki instead. I like getting away from Ch'i for a simple but somewhat silly reason - in some versions of Word it never auto-corrects or passes spell check, despite trying to add it to the dictionary!
  7. Re: Ch'i Ki Qi ... That could be good! One issue is I'm limited by my artistic ability. I'm intending to use free clip-art which I can then modify. This is also my oblique way of saying if anyone wants to help, they'd be very welcome... (if the game actually ever went into any sort of production/licensing status I'd gladly pay of course, but it is also possible I will just give this to HERO if Steve is interested, so anyone who wants to contribute should plan on just that...contributing as in donating probably). I do want to do something quickly though, so that I get it knocked out by the 28th when my wife is back from a vacation and she can get started on working on producing these. So I'll be moving quickly over the next week.
  8. Re: Months?! I dunno - I like 18s and 3s to be dramatic. One of my favorite ever 3 results, to take the opposite, was when a PC was playing pool against Puck, who was supposed to, of course, be tricking them. Well, they rolled a 3...and won Puck's ever-replenishing bag of coins. No points paid, just the bennie - forever, or at least until they lost it (which they never did).
  9. Re: An Open Call to Action To both Warp9 and Fox1 - I can imagine what you each mean, but please feel free to email or however you wish communicate the core issues you see and that way maybe we can see if it makes sense to address, has priority, etc.. Bear in mind we'll spend some initial time agreeing to all the basics from what is core to the system that we wish to "obey"/use as axiomatic and ground rules, so I hope nobody expects fast action. Also, naturally, I can't even imagine which things end up getting greater priority. Me, I'm partial to really fixing Adjustment Powers/PowDef/the SFX/power relationships there, cleaning all that up. But there may be other fish to fry. I'm sympathetic to the scaling issues, too, though I don't know how much my own opinion as to the issues relates to you (another reason it'd be great to get a problem statement from either/both of you). Anyway, good suggestions, regardless of my thoughts on those!
  10. Re: HERO System Vehicles I find a lot of people get ideas or reuse others' characters. I don't know why people wouldn't be interested in yours. But c'est la vie, just a suggestion. Anyway, the core thing is that a lot of people don't design characers as done in CU.
  11. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "You were left $1 million in your dear departed's will..." "BOO-YAH!"
  12. Re: An Open Call to Action On this I feel I should ask others first, get a group consensus, not just dictate that. Would you please send me your email address so we can keep in touch (PM or via board e-mail)?
  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Ah, an abyss of relativism, I see!
  14. Re: Fumbled Seduction Roll I think you're fine, I didn't understand the stealth roll part of the comment, either?
  15. Re: An Open Call to Action Interesting ideas, Hyper-man. I think I said somewhere above, priorities will need to be established! I think re axioms/core values, it's one of those things where ultimately one draws a line in the sand and creates a "working model" that is admittedly never 100% complete. Send me your email address, either via PM or the boards' email, and I'll add you to the great list of interested parties and get back to you shortly, as the list settles.
  16. Re: An Open Call to Action Man, it's that kind of thinking that's going to revolutionize HERO for sure!
  17. Re: Ch'i Ki Qi ... Thank you, interesting. I have to come up with a design for the (Ch'i, Chi, Ki, Qi, whatever, am tempted to go with Qi) Energy Gems and Alesia's going to make them in femo (sp), so that'll be cool. I want to use a yin-yang background but need a sci-fi "thing" to put on top of it, or something somehow "cyber pirate" (cybernetic skull and crossbones?). I can't reuse a commercial image. Any ideas?
  18. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER It would be cool if cities did that. I'd start up Super-Boston then!
  19. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER From MS Encarta (just the first thing I found) - http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761561539/Portland_(Oregon).html - "In 2003, Portland's population was estimated at 538,544. The population of the Portland metropolitan area also grew, from 1,334,000 in 1980 to 2,040,000 in 2003." From http://www.ci.portland.me.us/, "With a metro population of 230,000, the Greater Portland area is home to almost one quarter of Maine's total population. The population of the city is 64,000"\ Whoops, now I know what SS meant - yes, Portland, ME, is physically very large. It has a total area of 52.6 square miles (21.2 square meters land, 31.4 square meters water) from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland,_Maine. Portland OR is large, too, though, largely because of our in-city parks (we have the largest in the nation), 145.4 square miles, 11.1 square miles of water.
  20. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER We had a database of American cities at work. The two most popular city names, i.e., reoccurring the most among the states? One most people get, the other most people don't.... white space so you can think about it... Okay, the easy one is Washington...the hard one, but it makes a lot of sense... ...do you want a hint? think of the Revolution and the founders.... Franklin
  21. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Who the heck asked that!? (Hmm, hope I didn't! ) Hey, nice to see this post:
