I know not the degree to which you jest, but...there IS this quirky similarity between classic dragons and cats. They both always move with purpose, both feature slit pupils and both harbor a streak of cruelty (more charitably, they "like to play with their prey"). Why-oh-why the filmmakers decided to cave and follow the "realism" trend when it came to this classic non-human literary foe continues to mystify me to this day.
