Bazza
Shoulder pads worn by men are usually by gridiron footballers.

Cancer
Padded shoulders reappear periodically in fashions for men. The zoot suit of the 1940s is a particularly famous example.

Cancer
I don't think the LBD is a fashion; it's a societal staple, too utilitarian to fade out.

Bazza
Cool. If Earth is in the Alpha Quadrant, which quadrant is Helix Nebula? Trying to gauge if it on the opposite side to us or "close by" (as close as 215 parsecs allows).
Cancer
215 parsecs *is* a distance, and a pretty short one. It is among the closest planetary nebulae to us. The center of the Galaxy is about 8000 parsecs away; the thickness of the Disk is several hundred parsecs. tkdguy
Bazza
Cheers. So Helix Nebula is close by.
Cancer
Yes. That (and its age) are why it is so large in the sky.
Bazza
Einstein, Newton, and Pascal decide to play hide-and-seek. Einstein is "It," closes his eyes, counts to 10, and then opens them. Pascal is nowhere to be seen. Newton is sitting right in front of Einstein, with a piece of chalk in his hand. He's sitting in a box drawn on the ground, a meter to one side. Einstein says, "Newton, you're terrible, I've found you!" Newton says, "No no, no. You've found one Newton per square meter. You've found Pascal!" tkdguy and Pariah 1
