Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

On a side note the DFs you have listed:

Huge and Tiny

are listed as Physical Limitations in the Hero Bestiary - I'm not sure if you were trying to avoid duplicates across Types of Disads or not.

Yes, I know... but DF's are separate from Phys Lims for a reason and thus Huge and Tiny qualify for their own DFs.

I'm trying to be complete as possible, in any case.

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

Subtlely Wrong Features: While individually each of the character's physical features is within the standard parameters for his species, the totality of them is somehow...wrong. Standard adjectives for the look are "unwholesome", "slightly creepy" and "degenerate". (See, for example, the "Innsmouth Look." ) This distinctive feature is often associated with the Social Limitation: Attainder/Corruption of the Blood.

Scott, you don't have to start writing them *yet*. :D

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

There may also be “post cognitive†DF….

I didn’t realize it at the time but whenever I thought back about the SandMan there was this elevator music, and it was always the same song. Hmmmm

I'm not sure I understand.

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

You have Morbidly Obese, how about the other end of the spectrum. Either Skeletal, Unnaturally Lean, or Emaciated?

Blurred Form

Constant Motion

Exhibits Internal Structure/Organ(s)

No Distinctive Feature (for the ultimate in blandness)

Powerful Mental Signature

I would change "Not Human" to "Inhuman" (Not of ordinary human form; monstrous).

Also, you might want to take a look at all of the published heroes & villains to cull the DFs from them.

Cheers,

Mags

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

I've been trying to think of a few DFs from a forensic standpoint; that's what the Unusual Walk/Footprints was about. These would be the kind that, generally, would take a Skill to recognize, like Martial Arts Style needs Analyze.

Other possibilities:

Fingerprint "Accidental"

Anomalous Hair Characteristic

Chromosomal Anomaly (such as Down's or Turner's Syndromes)

Ego Signature (a compulsive act in connection with one's criminal deeds)

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

I probably missed it' date=' there are so many, but how about "Appears Mentally Challenged"? Many people immediately look that way, whether they are or are not (and some who are do not look that way).[/quote']

You mean something like "Mongoloid Facial Features"? That is, having the classic facial features of mental retardation?

I was thinking more like acting, as in ticks and/or poorly-constructed (as in halting or broken) speech and/or the facial features thing, so more generally, but having an analogous construct such as Mongoloid Facial Features could suffice, with any substitutions made as equivalences.

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

I didn't see it (which doesn't mean it's not there, just that I didn't see it):

Speech Impediment (slurring, stuttering, turrets[sp?], constantly repeats words/phrases, etc...)

or would that be better as a Physical/Social Limitation? not sure, it certainly is a distinctive feature to identify someone by.

And if it hasn't been listed: Speaks with a noticable accent.

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

How about:

Compusively foul-mouthed

(As distinct from the type of Tourette's Syndrome that causes such behavior -- though that might be a decent DF as well -- this is for those who habitually put at least one non-televisable word into nearly every sentence.)

Other speech-habit related DFs might include:

Rambling Speech

Speaks in Sentence Fragments

Always Speaks In Question Format

And I'm sure others can come up with more....

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

I once ran a character with air control powers and the DF: Air within two meters of her always in motion. Yep, even when she was in Secret ID. Made sweeping up some evidence at a crime scene one session a bit interesting :) . This might fall under the Tangible Aura variants, though.

Re: Master List of Distinctive Features

Always Speaks In Question Format

This one is eloquently known as "Up-Speak" as a question is formed, in English at least, by raised the last syllable of a sentence up in tone. In Japanese though, epsecially Tokyo-Dialect, a question is made by adding "ka" to the end of the sentence ... end derailment.

I think all the speech DFs could be summed up under"

DF: Odd Speech Pattern - "x"

where "x" is the pattern in question: stuttering, tourettes, rambles, sentence frgaments, "type of" accent, etc...

Don't you suppose even Japanese people have individuals who talk that way? Haven't you ever met someone who phrases nearly everything as a question? Haven't you ever watched Jeopardy or Drew Carey's Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Are you starting to see my point? :D

Why are you reacting so harshly? Don't you think his point was its own? Is everything about you? Why don't you just let it go? Why did you not just PM him to clarify? Are you trying to make a humorous point or what?

:D (sorry, couldn't resist)
