Re: Musings on Random Musings

I don't remember the entirety of his post' date=' but did he really condemn the whole Arab "race" (No such thing) or Muslim faith? Is it conemning all of them to point out that there are groups among them who support and harbor terrorists?[/quote']

No, its not...

But Gary, that (that while there are arab terrorists, not all arabs are terrorists) was my point, not Reneshats. When I stated said point, he responded with how I was naive and living in a Utopian fairyland that had no resemblance to the real world.

How exactly is one supposed to interpret such a response?

Re: Musings on Random Musings

And I hate to burst your bubble' date=' but if I lived in Northern Ireland, I would say "Most of the terrorists around here are Catholic." Why? Because it's true. I would not be saying all of the terrorists were Catholic, nor would I be saying that all Catholics were terrorists. It would be like saying because I said all squares are rectangles, then I was saying all rectangles are square.[/quote']

There seemed to be an equal mix between the Protestants and the Catholics in Northern Ireland. Terrorists that is.

And as someone who has lived through the terror campaigns and the prison protests I do know what I am talking about. Both sides were appaling in what they would do. And their public representatives. There is little to choose between Paisley and Adams as who is the more evil.

Perhaps what I should have been arguing is that "terrorist /= arab" is also a true statement.

Mayhaps.

Although when the bombs did go off nearby I was missed I did not stop to think, 'Was that a Catholic bomber or a Protestant bomber ?'

Which is utterly understandable. Though it does raise a question: in such an occasion or even afterward, did you ever wonder which arab group was bombing you, or did you assume it was one or the other domestic groups?

Re: Musings on Random Musings

Pre-2001 and the Irish were threatening a bombing campaign so we assumed it was them until proven otherwise. No-one else had motive.

If a bombing occurred this afternoon, would you automatically assume it was the work of an arab group, or a muslim group?

Re: Musings on Random Musings

It would depend on what the target was. If it was high profile and likely to be anti-government I would probably think al-Qaeda first. And just because they have Muslim and Arab members does not make me think of them as Arabs or Muslims. Just terrorists.

Then there is scale. Something small scale and anti-Government which does not kill people could be the Countryside Alliance protesting against the banning of Fox hunting.

The murder of a vivisectionist is likely to be the work of Animal Welfare people.

So it all depends. Never assume anything.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

Then again, Death Tribble lives in the UK, so they threats of terrorism he deals with, is slightly different from those that the US deals with. Also Al-Qaeda doesn't have "some muslim members" it is comprised of muslims almost entirely. You would be hard-pressed to find one that wasn't muslim. That I believe was my point.

Unfortunately, the US does have more than muslim-faith based groups to deal with.

We have right-wing militias who blow up hundreds of people in Federal buildings and rob banks and murder FBI agents in their path (Oklahoma and the FBI Miami Massacre).

We have racist groups that firebomb African American congregations.

We have pro-life groups that bomb abortion clinics and gun down doctors.

We have narcoterrorism from both north and south of the US Borders.

Al Quaeda is a significant enemy, but we have enough home grown psychos of our own, no thank you.

Luckily though, seeing how they are homegrown, they tend to be dumber than those overseas. I do admit we have other problems, but they are the minority in numbers, the minority in danger. I do think it is important to give credit to the fact that those insane militia types caused the second worst terrorist attack in our history.

Not necessarily dumber. They just don't make the front page with the same regularity as the foreign types.

Plus, profiling homegrown Militia Groups is far more difficult than profiling people who are not "mainstream" population.

Like Chris Rock once said...

"I'm more afraid of Al Cracker than Al Quaeda."

No, your point was "arab = terrorist and terrorist = arab". Its only after I pointed out how utterly racist that was that you backpedalled into "al-queda = muslim terrorist", a "point" which a retarded poodle could come to.

Have the courage to stand by your statements or admit you were wrong. All this tapdancing does is make you look (even more) foolish.

I really like voice of the female lead-singer for Evanescence.

(And I can't believe I spelled that right on the first try!)

Amy Lee is gorgeous body and voice. What a singer...

No. In fact, this is why Billy Joel and Metallica initially protested the idea of music videos in the first place--that the music would become secondary to the artist's looks. Whether or not this has come to pass in the era of Britney Spears and Beyonce is left as an exercise for the reader.
