WWYCD: The Arc

Setting: CU, or your Supers campaign. NASA (or your detection equipment) informs you that a five kilometer long star ship has entered our Solar System. The Star Ship is broadcasting a message in Latin, identifying itself as “The Arcâ€, and requesting instructions. NASA (or your detection equipment) informs you that the ship appears to be at least 5000 years old.

You and your team are transported to the ship to investigate, either under your own power or with the loan of a space vessel. Docking is automatic, and the technology is at the very limit of anything you have seen. Once inside, you find no human crew. Instead, you find a complete, working ecosystem, filled with plants and creatures unlike anything you have ever seen, none of them appearing immediately dangerous. The automatic machinery leads you to what seems to be a storage chamber. If your science expert is right, there are genetic samples from literally millions of species stored here, and equipment that seems to be intended to re-create these creatures. The ship also seems able to “seed†worlds with the ship’s living cargo.

What do you do? Do you turn over the ship to the government of your home country? Turn it over to the UN? Try to keep it for your team? Try to keep it for yourself?

Meanwhile, the ship's sensors seem to indicate a fleet of swift, small vessels rapidly approaching …

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Well, I'd first ask the question of "Why is a ship thats 5000 years old speaking Latin?? The languages is younger than it is." ;)

That aside:

-Microman II: First priority after basic security measures would be to try and "speak" with the automated systems, especially if they show signs of being an AI. The goal being, to find out what purpose and goals the Arc itself has.

Decisions at that point are a group matter. Assuming no actual purpose recorded or found, protecting the thing from those who would destroy or steal it is a priority. Once secured, it should probably be open to study for any non-villain types that wish to study it. Odds are, UNTIL would take the forefront, but something this big shouldn't be an exclusive.

As for ultimate usages, well, if its designed to seed planets with life, presumably, than maybe we should try using it on a non-inhabited solar planet. . .

-Diomedes: Is so in over his depth its not even funny. Aegis is *not* capable of protecting something like this.

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Eve would interface with the controlling intelligence and try to learn the true function of the ship. She'd also look at the profiles of the animals to see if any of them were cute (But that would be a secondary matter).

Valkeyrie would be awed by the potential knowledge. She happens to speak/understand Latin so would likely be the main interpreter with the vessel

Shidoku would be so completely out of her depth/genre she wouldn't be involved with this.

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Wonder why it's spelt Arc, not Ark...

Flippant: Turn to his teammates. He's got nothing.

Rook: Turn to his teammates. Worry that this may be part of what created his timeline; consider blasting it to atoms, but defer to the others.

Estatua: Something this big, he ain't handling. Hope Rook doesn't blast it to atoms. ;)

Tane: Didn't happen. We know this. Now, his modern day descendant/NPC might take his group up for a looksee.

Silyione: Since she's currently in the distant past, entertain hopes of getting home. If nothing else, a spaceship could get them to a wormhole... or an Alien Race with cryogenics tech (/the Ark could freeze her).

Ghost: Try and figure out how this thing can save Earth from the Enforcers... consider seeding Mars or something just to provide another option.

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

As most of my characters would be unable for various reasons to participate or would have to turn over the ship to whoever gave them the lift, I'll include my lone spacefaring hero in this.

Pathfinder has performed duties for NASA. She is, in my timeline, the only "space baby" to date (The only earthling born outside our atmosphere). She would use the ship's computers to find out all about where the ship has been and who created it, and determine if it's intended to be somewhere else and who is the owner. But meanwhile she'd lock it in orbit and she'd find a way to keep it here an inaccessible to others until a determination is made. But she'd feel that if there were species that have gone extinct on our planet that this is likely a gift to our whole planet, not just a single government.

She wouldn't mind owning her own ship, and it would be tempting, but she wouldn't feel right to just claim it by right of being the first there (which she would be).

Whole analysis have to be done, environmental impact studies to see what such species would do to our planet, etc.

But until it's decided, she'd be there on guard to protect it.

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

My characters would run to Barnes and Noble and buy up all of Arthur C. Clarke's Rama series of books. Then they'd quickly read them and figure out that the series has a god awful conclusion and answers none of the questions of the readers... The nuclear missles would fly shortly after ;)

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Golden Eagle would claim the ship as his own, under whatever salvage law he could make stick, and the fact that no-one but supervillains could dispute his claim with force of arms. He would bring his own team of scientists, including himself (Nuclear Engineering/Material Sciences), and teammates Bolt (Astronomy/Cryptozoology) and Cheshire Cat (Quantum Physics).

Bouncer would merely be along for the ride...

Johnny Angel belongs to the Junior Achievers, a group chartered by the UN, and would be bound to defer to them. He would assume that the ship was from Mars, since in 1959 Movie Martians were all the rage...

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Techno Furious - Would engage the ship's AI in a game of tic-tac-toe and would lose after the second move.

The Voudoun - Would begin organizing defenses and transfer/salvage protocols. He would then contact the spirit world and ask them for their advice. Then with the solution to the problem grasped tightly in his hand, he would be ignored by the rest of the group.

Jarhead - Would begin organizing Earth's resistance by looking for the ship's auto-destruct system. When the fact that no hostilities have been taken is pointed out to him, he would just shrug and say "Just wait".

Twilight - Would panic and nuke the first thing she saw... unfortunately it would be the NASA technician sent along to help. She would then point the still twitching body to Jarhead and claim he was a "traitor to humanity". Jarhead would cross his arms sagely and say "See? Told you so.".

Zebazeloth - Would offer to sell guns to Jarhead while at the same time making bumper stickers welcoming our new alien overlords.

This sounds like some of my groups. :D

Marksman: He woudl say his magic words "Ohh Shit", and EDM to La La Land :)

Seriously, he would be very far from his area of expertiece (He's a 4 color street hero at heart), so first thing he would do is call his brother (a tech guru) and get suggestions. He would try to defend the alien life until what time it poses a danger to the earth. God his team would be screwed...

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Husky is going to change into Kenneth since this is definately boring by his standards. Kenneth will then hijack the ship to keep it out of the reach of anyone else until he can finish his preliminary research of the vessel.

What Kenneth does after that will depend on what he learns about the ships function and origin.

Re: WWYCD: The Arc

Menagerie: Her team would be sent to accquire the vessel to possibly use its technology in the war against the baselines. Once its cargo of genetic information was discovered, its recovery would be all the more important since this material could add vast power to Gene Pool. It would probably end in a big three way battle between Evolution (to accquire/protect it), Purity (out to destroy it as a threat) and Team Ageis and UN military forces who'd want to get their hands on it.

Pinnacle: would be a bit out of her depth, but her team would probably be sent to investigate being the only gov team of supers. Gearhead would be at home and spend most of his time trying to incorporate any fancy alien gizmos and figure out the vessel's origin and purpose. Pinnacle would basically try not to break things and provide heavy lifting when required. One of our recurring villains would make a play for it eventually, probably Junkyard Jenny.

Stopwatch:As a Teen champions, would be pretty out of her league for this one.
