Tim
Re: A Thread For Random Links They are of different Classes' date=' I think, technically. A decent site seems to be here. Millipedes have two pairs of legs per body segment. I think all millipedes are eaters of vegetation, especially decaying vegetation. Centipedes have one pair of legs per body segment. I think all centipedes are predators, and have poison fangs. Centipedes tend to be rather faster-moving than millipedes (which is part of the predator-versus-scavenger thing). I think millipedes almost invariably have shorter legs than centipedes, but I'm less certain of that. They BOTH have more than four legs and should DIE! Cancer
Re: A Thread For Random Links Link; a column by one of the regular columnists in American Scientist, from the latest issue. A dispassionate essay on the technical aspects of the levee-canal-pump system of New Orleans and Mississippi Delta, in the context of the Katrina disaster. Mentions the underfunding of various flood control projects, but doesn't dwell on them. Also mentions several other floodings of New Orleans in the last half-century or so. Provides a physical/engineering context which most of the political screaming prefers to ignore, but also ignores the human suffering aspects.
