Star Guardian write-up?

The original writeups for the Star*Guard appeared in Digital Hero #'s 5, 6, and 7. They included the background and history of the group; stats for the Silver Age Star*Guard of Earth, Brin Rei Tarn; his team of support operatives, the Star*Marshals; one of the Overseers who supervise the SG; stats for Brin's base on one of Jupiter's moons; and the greatest enemy of the SG, the traitor Mordace.

Some of the background information above is reproduced in the Star*Guard chapter in Galactic Champions, which updates the group's history to the GC era and introduces a Champions 3000 example of a Star*Guard. Also, DH #41 includes an "unofficial" article by Bob Greenwade on the SG's operations during the Terran Empire period, when magic in the galaxy was low and their powers, like those of all superhumans, was diminished.

Re: Star Guardian write-up?

Thanks for the replies. Would anyone care to give me a short summary of the information from those various sources? What are the powers of a Star Staff? What kind of uniforms/costumes do the Star Guards wear? I am kinda getting the impression that they are the CU's version of the Lensmen or the Green Lantern Corps... is that about right?

That's pretty much their niche in the setting, yes. In terms of organization they're very similar to the Green Lantern Corps, except that Star*Guards stationed in a particular system normally have a base with support staff. They're supervised by Overseers (usually but not always former Star*Guards), under the overall direction of a powerful AI called CONTROL. The power level of the characters in Digital Hero is closer to that of the Lensmen (around Standard Superhero), but the Galactic Champions-era example is Cosmically Powerful and more analogous to the Green Lanterns.

Star*Guards can be of almost any race, and need not be native to the systems they protect. Their uniforms are dark blue and silver with a slightly military cut, and are armored. The Star-Staff is a gold rod about five and a half feet long with a striking cap on one end and a glowing globe on the other. It draws its energy from the light of any star. The DH version generates basic offensive and defensive energy fields, and also grants Flight. The GC version is far more powerful, has more offensive options, and also grants FTL travel. A Star-Staff can also be used as a HTH weapon, and all Star*Guards are trained in staff Martial Arts.

The DH Guards are high human level physical specimens and are schooled in a variety of Skills and other disciplines. The GC Guards are physically enhanced to superhuman levels, as well as granted the ability to survive in space unaided. Guards may also possess other abilities native to their species.

What's the point levels for the GC versions? Around 650 points? Or are we talking more than that?

Star*Shield, the Star*Guard statted in Galactic Champions, is 756 points. His maximum Damage Class with his Star-Staff is 24 DC, maximum total Defenses are 80 PD/ 75 ED, SPD 7, max OCV 13 with the Star-Staff.

Interestingly, Brin Rei Tarn, Earth's Star*Guard during the 1970's and 80's, was 685 points at the height of his career (as per his Digital Hero character sheet), despite having a Star-Staff only about half as powerful, and lesser physical stats. But he was a very experienced and respected Star*Guard, with many Skills, Talents, and Perks, whereas Star*Shield is a fairly new recruit to the Guard. If Star*Shield was designed the same way he'd surely be close to 1,000 points.
