Y-Wing Evolution

Saw this on the Star Wars site and thought I'd pass it along--from the upcoming Clone Wars animated series, this is what a Y-Wing looks like fresh off the showroom floor--

While I like the design, I could see why the Rebellion's mechanics left the fairing off--there seems to be a lot of wasted space inside.

Don't know about the body fairing. But with the engine fairings on, I think the engines look a tad too much like warp drive nacelles from Start Trek ToS.

Re: Y-Wing Evolution

I always thought of the Y-wing as sort of like the P47 Thunderbolt - it was a mainstay multirole fighter/attack platform, it wasn't pretty, but the darned things just kept flying.

Though the Y-wing was more of an attack aircraft, IIRC.

The idea of hearkening back to older designs is not entirely alien to the Star Wars universe. :)
