Re: Inceptum Terminus World Book

This will be a thread about the book I'm working on for the Hero System about the superhero world I created about 16 years ago. I'll be adding more stuff to this thread, but here is the timeline of events to give an idea of where the world is at.

Timeline of Events

2001

The World Trade Center is attacked by Al Qaeda terrorists and is destroyed on September 11. France and Pakistan sign a secret mutual defense pact with Iraq and Afghanistan. NATO is resolved to support the War on Terrorism and send troops into the opening moves in the Afghanistan war. The Taliban secretly sends cells aided by France and Pakistan into Europe, United States, and Asia. The cells are armed with a variety of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons of mass destruction.

In the latter months of the year, the United States finds out information regarding Russian involvement in the spread of global terrorism. The United States stands before the United Nations and condemns the French and Pakastanis for their support of the terrorists. The UN dissolves shortly after the incident with China, North Korea, and Vietnam signing onto the French-Pakistani-Taliban treaty. Al Qaeda moves their cells out from those countries into neighboring countries that are supportive of the United States and her remaining NATO allies. Among those allies is the Russian Confederation.

2002

The first United States space superiority fighters and bombers are launched on space based carriers. Their orders are to destroy enemy satellites and ICBMs. France and China reply by speeding up their development on their own space based navy. By the end of the year the three sides are arrayed against each other for battle. The United States has perfected their stealth technology rendering their space force invisible to all electronic means of detection.

With the Al Qaeda sleeper cells in place their target countries a wave of world wide terrorism is launched in the early hours of December 31. Weapons of mass destruction destroy many of the capitals of the United States and her allies. The entire world descends into anarchy with the United States and her allies launch their nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons at China, North Korea, France, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Iran.

2003

With the capitals and major cities destroyed across the world in the flames of destruction the United States military is left in the dark as the entire federal government collapses. The states are hard pressed to deal with the assignment of command and control since Washington D.C. disappears under a 10 megaton suitcase nuke. In the shadows of the death of the world, the corporations start their long and drawn out Corporate Wars that will last for the next two centuries. At the end of the wars the Corporate States of America rise from the ashes. Contact between the United States and the rest of the world is dissolved. The people of the former United States are reduced to being serfs to the corporate machine. The final nail in the coffin is slammed home on the last freedom and liberty for the people of the United States in most of the Corporate States. The ideals of the founding fathers died...

2004-2054

The first of the long line of Corporate Wars begins in the aftermath. The people struggle to survive under the harsh and draconian conditions. Life is just a hairs breadth away from many things like scavengers, the mega-corps, starvation, and disease. Fighting is fierce amongst the corporations and one after another fall to the strongest. By the end of 2054, the environment has stabilized and food production rises. Disease, radiation, and chemicals are cleansed from the soil by the massive reclamation projects financed by the mega-corps. The discovery by Biogenetics of mutations in the human genome results in these proto-Gifted being seized for experimentation.

2055-2100

Proto-Gifted start to appear in greater numbers among the human population. The rest of the mega-corps begin their own genetic programs and fight Biogenetics for control. Every mega-corp launches a publicity campaign designed to dehumanize The Gifted within their borders. The publicity campaign is nothing more then a fear campaign that teaches normal humans to fear these superpowered people and that they are less then human. Humans are their natural rulers and The Gifted do not even warrant such niceties as life. Near the end of the century, all but a few handful of Gifted are left free due to their skill in hiding in the vast mega-cities or out in the wilderness.

2101-2200

The Gifted are fully realized and subject to the cruelty of slavery. Their lives are short due to their extreme losses due to war, genetic testing, or hazardous work. Humanity begins to thrive under the cruel dictatorships of the mega-corps and advances are made in technology once again. Anti-gravity vehicles, gauss weapons, laser weapons, and other former future technologies have come into regular use. An era of low intensity conflict begins amongst the mega-corps and peace reigns. Some mega-corps build vast walls to protect their territory and others let people move freely between the various territories.

At the end of the century the Gifted genome has been mapped out and work begins on creating artificial Gifted. Contact has been established with the former US Navy space fleet. The crew of the fleet died 60 years before due to starvation and system failures. Amidst the ruins of Washington D.C., a solitary man finds copies of the Articles of Confederation, former state Constitutions, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the Confederacy, and the writings of John Locke, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and the Anti-Federalists in the destroyed building that housed the Library of Congress. He assumes the name Patriot and spreads these writings throughout the underworld's vast computer network.

2201-2250

Patriot's fame spreads throughout the former United States and becomes hunted by the Corporate States of America. He travels the underground and spreads the message of freedom and equality. Over the next 40 years like minded individuals assemble to write a new constitution and vow to restore the states to power. Patriot and his close cabinet of advisors seek out and hide select Gifted. He offered them human rights and freedom in exchange for their help in toppling the mega-corps. They are a black project that only a select few individuals know of their existence and given the code name Inceptum Terminus. The beginning and the end for the future of humanity in the former United States.

The New Confederation of the United States elects its first government officials at the beginning of the new year for 2250. After the election, the Congress of the New Confederation votes to declare war on the Corporate States of America...

nice work

Re: Inceptum Terminus World Book

Where do what's left of Canada and Mexico fall into this?

Good question. My suggestion is that under the terms of NAFA (amended during the 'troubles') Mexico and Canada are probably incorporated into the United States, although they might have different corporations (from the ones already listed) running them...

Re: Inceptum Terminus World Book

All very interesting.

Where do what's left of Canada and Mexico fall into this?

They're not going to be in the first book, but will be covered in the next world book. The reason being is that the US is pretty large and the book covers 11 factions. Adding more factions would only blossom the book out by more then twice its size.

Background/History: Ryan was born in one of the small settlements that dots the territory of the Rocky Mountain Confederation. His birthday is July 27, 2218. Growing up he saw first hand what the marauders would do when a community wouldn't comply with their demands, so he vowed that he would join the Rocky Mountain Confederation Police to put an end to their reign of terror.

At the age of eighteen he joined the police force and traveled through the back country passes and roads looking for marauders. One day, he came across a large group of marauders that was beseiging a small village. Knowing that the only right way to handle these vermin was to kill them, so he launched himself into a battle without back up. After the smoke had settled, he climbed out of his damaged police car and was ambushed by a surviving marauder. A garrote slipped around his neck and cut deep into his throat. Ryan barely managed to aim his service pistol at the attacker and squeezed the trigger. The marauder fell dead at his feet and collapsed as darkness overtook him.

Days later, Ryan awoke and saw that he was inside of the small village. It lay in smoldering ruins with bodies strewn about. Deducing that the marauders had come back and finished the village off while he was unconcious he vowed vengence against them. Arriving back at the local precinct he was interrogated for several days by Internal Affairs due to his lack of following police procedure. After months of investigation, the RMCPD levied charges of murder and assault against him for the deaths of the people in the village. Outraged he broke out of jail and fled after getting his duty gear. As he was leaving the precinct he saw his trusty police car and climbed in. His old friend purred to life and he left the life of a cop behind him. Feeling betrayed by his brothers in blue he plies the highways and byways of the Rocky Mountain Confederation seeking out any information that can clear his name.

Personality/Motivation: Ryan is serious most of the time and rarely trusts anyone easily. His girl friend is slowly helping him deal with his trust issues and supports him. She doesn't know about his past as a police officer and doesn't question where the car or the uniform came from. He's usually quiet and observes what happens around him before making the decision to commit to any particular cause. He rarely doesn't have his pistol on him for protection.

Ryan is motivated to see the marauders that rape, pillage, and burn their way across the Rocky Mountain Confederation killed for their criminal actions. He also wants to see his name cleared and will go to great lengths to gather the necessary evidence. He usually doesn't harm innocents and will protect them if necessary, but if it's a situation where his survival is at stake he will walk away.

Quote: You have the right to remain silent in death. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law in the afterlife. You have the right to have an attorney present during questioning in hell. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand these rights? *Blam*

Campaign Use:

Appearance: Standing 6 feet tall, Ryan is broad shouldered and rugged looking. He has blue eyes and red hair. Oftentimes, he goes without shaving so he sports a scraggily beard. The patches on his uniform are removed, but he still wears the gold badge proudly on his chest armor. His WMC Cobra Interceptor has the lightbars removed and a circle with a line through it covers the police department emblem.

Re: Inceptum Terminus World Book

The traditional enemy of France is England, from Middle Ages to the Napoleonic Wars (so about 5 centuries), not Germany. It just happens the latest wars were against the Germans (so about 70 years).

I don't exactly see where fascism is rising in France but it might be a campaign theme so it's ok.

The arabic population of France is rising at an insane rate, sir. Check your figures.

Re: Inceptum Terminus World Book

I see someone is a fan of the Casca book series. I have heard of them, but never read any.

I've always liked this character concept. I even used it in a game of Deadlands, for a wandering Bohemian prince Huckster, who used a Tarot deck instead of cards. His family was related to Cassius Longinus, and he carried the Lance. I think it's pretty cool that your putting it in this series.

Cyberdecks and the lance, that works for me.

Sorry, but I've never read the books and this is the first I've heard of them. I just went with the legend surrounding him and made him my own in my world. :) Although, the books look really good so I'll have to read them later.

Glad you liked everything so far and it just gets better from here. :D

Re: Inceptum Terminus World Book

Okay a couple of things I noticed.

On Gaius you've got the limitation about "Requires Faith." Yet his faith is listed as a disadvantage. It may be just me but a requirement to use a power should not be a disad, it should cost you something. I'd suggest buying something like "Divine Favor" and maybe renaming it "True Faith".

After reading your time line I've got questions. How did the U.S. afford the research to make all this tech when there were food lines everywhere? I know you're trying to give the game a realistic feel so that to me seems like a stretch. Traditionally when times are that tight tech doesn't advance unless it's directly military related. If that's the case you may want to make mention of that somewhere. Also, when the embargo was levied against us why wasn't there any attempt to get the oil from the Alaskan country side? Naval blockade? No one thought of it? Your recruitment in 1996 sounds more like a draft and drafts have a history of not going over well.

Sorry if this comes across as critical but you did ask me for it. :hush:

No worries bud and I followed your advice regarding Longinus.

There was a delay between the tech advancements and the food lines. The food lines started in 1977 and the tech didn't advance until 7 years later in 1984. In that span of time people went back to work and the food lines disappeared.

I never thought about drilling for oil in Alaska, but I'll be sure to mention it in the full history.

The recruitment drive in 1996 wasn't a draft, but an upsurge in volunteers joining much like what happened in 2001 after the WTC's destruction. I'm thinking that there were more terrorist attacks on US soil but aren't listed in the timeline. This would give ordinary people incentive to join for patriotic reasons and to secure the world from global terrorism.

This was the line that made me ask about the tech. Something like that hitting the market when people can't afford food doesn't seem right to me. Poor product launch and all that. However if you've got it covered I'm all behind ya and such.

BTW hello PolarisUSMC!

Early personal computers in the real world were Altair computers that you had to build a wooden case for. It was essentially a computer kit that you had to put together. They were released in 1977 amid the financial crisis. They didn't fair well, but look at today and see how much computers are a part of our lives. :)
