薔薇語
So I was writing up an archaeologist style characters and was trying to think of a good array of Science skills to complement the character. I am stumped on this as I do not know what an archaeologist would find useful. Suggestions? Of course I have Archaeology and Geology, just nothing else. The_Patriot
Re: Archaeologist Cultural Knowledges and Area Knowledges excellent for rounding out an achaeologist. Any of the Earth Sciences would also be good. I recommend reading the Science Skill table in The Ultimate Skill book.
Marketeer
Re: Archaeologist If your achaeologist was particularly interested in how certain mindsets and living conditions affected the culture of prior civilizations, Sociology also makes sense. Mind you, that might be better described as a KS rather than a Science skill.
Teflon Billy
Re: Archaeologist For sciences, hmm, anthropology, botany, and civil engineering come to mind. Knowledge Skills in History of particular eras/areas. Languages. TB

AnotherSkip
Re: Archaeologist If you can find a copy of "Gods Graves and Scholars" subtitled the story of Archaeology by C.W. Ceram. He covers the major greats and how they got there like nobody elses buisiness. Like how cracking the Rosetta Stone wasn't an overnight thing we make it sound like these days. It took a special man years to find then prove his solution was the best (Champollion). Most of the early Scholars had huge skill sets, alot of them had high Pre (for dealing with locals proerly) as well as the skills to go with that Pre. Survival Skills, Money would not be off base, nor would Luck (many of the realy greats had that in Scads!) Here is a partial list of one of my characters skil sets (it's not done yet so have mercy) 6 Wealth 3 Scholar 3 Jack of All Trades 3 Combat Driving 5 +1 DCV Vs. All 2 PS: Teacher 2 PS: Leader 2 PS: Meditation 2 PS: Researcher 2 PS; Athlete 2 KS: Instruction Techniques 2 WF Common Melee Weapons 2 WF: Common Missile Weapons 2 WF: Firearms 6 +2 W/Handguns 3 Stealth 3 Concealment 3 CK: Ancient Egypt 3 CK: 3 CK: 2 Survival 7 SS: Chemistry (11+I/5) 3 SS: 5 Language: Arabic 5 Language: Hieroglyphics 5 Language: 5 Language: 3 Paramedic 15 3d6 luck "Daredevil” this may show up as +3 OSL

SS: Forensic Anthropology Cyphering KS: Ancient Languages QM KS: Ancient Languages. 薔薇語
Re: Archaeologist Thanks again to everyone's suggestions. I think I have the skills that I want now, but still interested in any ideas. Now what I am in need of is a good source for old myths and legends of Europe. The character isn't quite a stereo type Dr. Jones but rather she is a blend of him and the Mask (Jim Carrey). Her mask however isn't just a quirky demigod, but a collection of various beings of legend (mostly oriented to females). Things like Valkyries, whiches, doppelgangers, etc. But I am trying to find a good resource on looking some things up. It doesn't have to be explicitly European legends, as I will blend in others as well, but that is where I want the main focus to be. Does anyone know a good place for me to look of such lore? Again any help is appreciated. La Rose

Pariah
Re: Archaeologist I'd think any decent archaeologist would need Deduction, to represent the ability to look at several things and say, "Hey, the presence of this artifact with these writings indicates this happened here four thousand years ago!" I have a character right now who's an archaeologist. Feel free to take a look at him and see what kind of ideas you get: Wild Card.
Split Decision
Re: Archaeologist Yep. Deduction and Cryptography are requisites. To be a famous archaeologist, you may wish to add some Luck dice. All the preparation and persperation in the world can't turn Al Capone's Vault into the Great Pyramid.
