tkdguy
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Maybe. I'm not very good at building with plastic. The lousy job I did building my Zeppelin models (both times) is a testament to that.
SteveZilla
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Would an Orion Drive space battleship exhaust turn Orion slave girls into Gammazons? But the're green to begin with... No telling what they would look like after the exposure. Though I do owe you rep for the neat word: Gammazons. Old Man
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Rule #3: Get enough materials to make ten models. Because you need to build a prototype. And a battle-damaged version. And this one is supposed to be, uh, the ship in a gravitational distortion field...

tkdguy
Re: Orion Drive space battleship I was thinking of building two models: a large one for display, and a small one for tabletop gaming.
RexMundi
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Then you shall need enough material for 20 models. Cancer
Re: Orion Drive space battleship For extra game verisimilitude, get some old "vaseline glass" (uranium glass) and a radiation counter. "See? This one has the nuclear drive!"
tkdguy
Re: Orion Drive space battleship I'll pass on the uranium glass. But for the smaller models, I'm thinking of using a wine cork for the main body. And I have plenty of those. And I still have a lot of GW flight bases as well. RexMundi
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Grab some of the glow in the dark plastic figures, you can use them to represent the civilians all the hippies think that a Project Orion drive ship will turn into glow in the dark radioactive mutants. ~Rex
Cancer
Re: Orion Drive space battleship I'll pass on the uranium glass. OK, then put some of that potassium-chloride salt substitute in it. A radiation counter will find that, too.

Zeropoint
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Oh, man, my parents had an old radiation-based smoke detector. The radioactive material had decayed so much that the detector was sensitive enough that it would know the toast was burning before you did, even though it was at the other end of the house and you were sitting next to the toaster. Zeropoint
Re: Orion Drive space battleship That's bad. How were those things disposed of? Take the battery out and toss it in the trash. They use a miniscule amount of americium 241, which is an alpha particle emitter--you'd basically have to eat or implant the source for it to become a hazard at all. What insane amount of that stuff would be needed for it to be dangerous? There is probably somebody somewhere out who has stockpiled that much. Cancer
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Well, short of eating or inhaling it, an alpha-emitter by itself isn't going to hurt you. Its decay products are more likely to be damaging.
