megaplayboy
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Well, by that reasoning there is no use for any of NASA's rocket boosters because currently there are no space probes scheduled to be launched. Nor is there any use for your automobile because you currently have no errands to run. There are lots of space projects whose development efforts are on hold for the foreseeable future because there exists no heavy lift capacity. Once the capacity appears, development will re-start. If only we had some Kryptonian DNA samples, then we could whip up a batch of heavy lift launch vehicles in no time.

Captain Obvious
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Imperial Star Destroyer as presented in the movies, or Imperial Star Destroyer as built using modern technology? Because the feasibility with modern tech is the Orion ship's strongpoint.
RexMundi
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Indeed. As it stands I think the Imperial Star Destroyer would win, but then AGAIN, if it's so tough, Why do you never see it destroying Stars? And why do you need a Death Star if you already have a Star Destroyer. Methinks the Empire, be pretentious. ~Rex

RexMundi
Re: Orion Drive space battleship The actually put it to paper first (the idea of the propulsion, not really the vehicle itself). The Weapon
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Orion Battleship vs. Imperial Star Destroyer. Discuss. They have trouble taking out a _freighter_ before it gets away. Somehow I think something that's basically a group of nukes with a crew and nuke dispersal system won't have that many problems. RexMundi
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Yeah somehow I think they wouldn't want to be sucking that Orion up into that little cargo bay thingie. Bad things could happen. ~Rex
DusterBoy
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Especially if the crew have abandoned ship (given they have escape pods) and have rigged a timer and detonator to the warload. . . That would be a BIG bang!

Somehow I think something that's basically a group of nukes with a crew and nuke dispersal system won't have that many problems. Well, in their defense, it was no ordinary freighter. OTOH you can take out an entire Super Star Destroyer with a judiciously applied kamikaze A-Wing. Really, design flaws abound when it comes to Imperial equipment. RexMundi
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Dunno. Speaking as a Comics History AuthoriTAH!, I would have to say, 99.99% of Gamma mutations in Comics for Women, Are not to, uhm, They don't roll as well as the Shorties that showed up as Orion Slave Girls in that Episode of Enterprise....Back to topic though, If an A wing can drop a SSD, I think an Orion Battleship could hold it's own, heh. Clonus
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Orion Battleship vs. Imperial Star Destroyer. Discuss. tkdguy
Re: Orion Drive space battleship Since the price tag of that model is way too steep for me and its scale is too large for my starship combat game, I may scratchbuild something similar instead, which would be smaller. I may build a larger model, though, using cardboard. I'm thinking of using a toilet paper roll for the main body.
