CaptD
How do I thwart AOE attacks. My players seem to buy them alot to make it easy to hit villains. It gets a little too easy.
Escafarc
Re: FRED Question Other than increase defences, you could place the comabt in a place where the AoE will cause lots of collateral damage or hit bystanders.
bigbywolfe
Re: FRED Question Higher Defenses, Desolidification, Faster villains so they can Dive For Cover without losing all of thier attacks, Give all your villains AoE attacks too and see how the players like it, Make your players justify why they have AoE attacks, implement a hard AP cap so AoE attacks will always be weaker than their other options, Have hostages nearby so AoEs aren't always an option, et cetera. Maccabe
Re: FRED Question Increase spacing between villians so that they all aren't affected. Whats the special effect; if your throwing a grenade then it can be missile deflected. Invisible villians with indirect attacks ? Mind Control: "Attack your friends!" If it's too easy then it's not fun anymore, disallow it.
Tasha
Re: FRED Question How do I thwart AOE attacks. My players seem to buy them alot to make it easy to hit villains. It gets a little too easy. Since most AOE's are +1 advantage you shouldn't be seeing more than 8d6 AOE attacks (assuming a 60-70 active point game). Giving the Villains 30 defences and some KB resistance should make them fairly resistant to AOE attacks. in 5e and before we only used AOE's for squishys like Martial Artists and Egoists and for minions. No one would ever think that an average Villain would be worth attacking with an AOE.
Fearghus
Re: FRED Question Ditto... AOEs are for mooks If your main villain takes more than a scratch from AOE attacks you are not building him with his defenses high enough.
Tasha
Re: FRED Question I would also like to point you to my post HERE I give some great IMHO advise for figuring out campaign powerlevels and recommended amounts of Defense vs the Damage Class (DC) of an attack.
