Clonus
One of the many freebie downloads I have piled up is for one of the zombie games, a quickstart scenario in which the group all wake up in a hospital ward in perfect health and ready to make their way out of the hospital past all the zombies and try to find their way to freedom. And I was wondering, how does that work? There are several zombie stories in which one person wakes up from a coma to find that it has slept through the apocalypse. It helps skip past the awkwardness of showing how the problem multiplied out of control But how do a room of coma patients all wake up at the same time, all fit and healthy? The options that come to mind are: There was nothing wrong actually wrong with them. They were just the snatched-off-the-street victims of an organ-stealing scheme and woke up when the sedation pumps ran out of power or drugs. What was wrong with them was that they were infected with the same thing that makes zombies, but had an atypical reaction. They were the recipients of divine intervention that healed and reawakened them so they could do something about the source of the zombies. Steve
Re: So You Wake Up In The Hospital Another possibility that could be interesting is that the PCs wake up in a mental hospital. Whatever caused the zombie outbreak also somehow cured them. Admittedly, this could make for a 'twitchier' bunch of heroes.

Zen Archer
Re: So You Wake Up In The Hospital Variation of Clonus' #2: They're all clones, and either a side effect of the process caused the zombie outbreak or is a potential "cure" in restoring humanity. Or both.
Shadow Hawk
Re: So You Wake Up In The Hospital They were early victims of the outbreak (not Patient Zero, but in the single digits) and given a experimental vacine. Good news, it worked! Bad news: none of the scientists lived long enough to find out it worked.
NuSoardGraphite
Re: So You Wake Up In The Hospital Shadow Hawk has a good idea. Alternately, the vaccine worked....temporarily. The Z-Virus is slowly adapting to it, and the characters start showing signs of Zombiefication after a while and now they must find the scientist who created the vaccine in the first place and assist him in perfecting it before time runs out. In this scenario, characters bit and scratched by Zombies as they fight them don't turn as quickly as the people without the vaccine, but each bite and scratch removes a little bit from the amount of time they have left as the new influx of Z-virus strengthens the virus in their system.... Xavier Onassiss
Re: So You Wake Up In The Hospital They all just broke out of the isolation ward at the biohazard facility at the same time. Actually, they're all zombies, everyone else is normal, but the virus which causes zombiefication alters their perceptions so they can't tell. At least, not right away. The truth gradually dawns on them as they run across various clues that not all is as it seems.... Yes, I am evil.
