  1. Re: Pantheon: The Six-And-One

I like all the descriptions thus far except for maybe the two triple deities. Having two of 'em seems a bit...I don't know. Unwieldy, maybe. Contrived, I guess. I dunno.

Okay, a few minutes later, now. The Triple Goddess is fine and dandy. I like her/them. There's both literary and mythological bases for her. The Triple God, however, is the one that doesn't sit right with me. If anything he should simply be an All Father type of god. Smith, Sage and Judge aren't the most commonly associated aspects, either.

Don't get me wrong, I do indeed like all the ideas. It's just that Triple God thing that's kinda buggin' me. But it's just my opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt (preferably followed by a shot of Patrón).

  2. Re: The cranky thread

Some days it's not worth owning a Rott, especially one with a tail. Those days usually involve getting woken up after 4-5 hours of sleep, sodas knocked off tables, general whining, and some seriously horrendous effluvium...all on the part of the dog.

  3. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Rammstein. I don't know the title cuz I don't speak German, the cd's on random, and I'm too damn lazy to go over and check which track it is. It's on the same cd as Du Hast, though.

But man, do I feel like killin' someone right now. Or at least driving really really fast.

Edit: I think it's Sensucht (sp?)

  4. Re: Duplication Squared

5ER has this to say (pg 152):

"Duplicates do not have the power Duplication themselves, nor any ability to create other Duplicates, unless they pay for it separately. However, unless the GM permits otherwise, for ease of use all Duplicates must "pay for" the cost of the base character's Duplication ability. Otherwise, the Duplicates would end up with more points to spend on other abilities than the base character himself has."

It later references building a Duplicate for less points than the original, infering that you can simply build it for the cost of the base original minus the cost of the original's Duplicate power.

In other words, the cost of the original's Duplication power has to be reflected in the Duplicate's point total somehow.

  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Too bad I already Repped you.

    JG

It amused me that throughout the show I kept focusing on the fact that he was again holding his microphone like he does when he sings. That is to say, wrapped several times around three fingers of his left hand (middle-to-little), and then he stands "in your face" style, one leg slightly back like he's ready for whatever you've got and/or is ready to bring it to ya. And then he talks about squirrels on the bannister or vomiting on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Good stuff. I'm glad I recorded it so I can watch it again later.

  6. Re: Presence attacks never work?

What modifiers would you allow for' date=' say inspiration, or "sex appeal" PRE attacks.[/quote']

If I remember correctly the GM awarded me something like +1 compliment to my Seduction roll for every level of the attack cuz I had just essentially pulled an Alpha Male move by doing something cool. It's not a hard-and-fast rule but the idea of getting people to pay attention to you is a good thing, in my opinion, and should be rewarded.

If you're bamboozling a crowd, is there a point where a PRE attack is a better mechanic than, say, a Persusaion skill roll?

Bamboozling a crowd? I'd let PRE be a complimentary skill roll for that, but I don't think it's appropriate to replace it. After all, if you're essentially trying to convince people of something they know is not true, it won't matter if you're really impressive while doing it. They still probably won't believe you.

PRE attacks doesn't necessarily get people to do anything they wouldn't do anyway, but it's an attention-getter. It's a way of putting your best foot forward, so to speak, and making people sit up and take notice. That little jolt of adrenalin you get when reading a good comic or watching your favorite show on TV or seeing an actor in a movie do something really cool...that's a PRE attack (sort of). Cops taking control of disaster situations, calming people down and getting them to safety...that's a PRE attack. A guy coming into the room all loud and obnoxious but obviouslying having a good time...that could be a PRE attack.

Anyway, just my thoughts on it. YMMV.

  7. Re: Duplication Squared

I agree. Not only does the Duplicate have to buy an essentially worthless Duplication power to mimic that of the 'base' character, but they'd have to buy Duplication again, thus making them inferior copies of the original anyway.

And if their Duplicates wanted to buy Duplication, that means they'd essentially have to buy the power three times. Three. 3. Each.

So yeah, it's possible, but not practical.

  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings

"Henry Rollins Live in NYC" on the Independent Film Channel. No music. Just two hours of sometimes-comedic-sometimes-pointless-sometimes-political-always-insightful rantings by one of the most eloquent and intelligent angry bastards we've ever produced. I'm still mulling...

  9. Re: Presence attacks never work?

Does anyone ever use PRE attacks for non-fear purposes? Consider' date=' for example, the standard Pulp trope of the girl stoping traffic by pulling back her skirt. Is there an equivalent to "very violent action" as a modifer for a PRE attack that's not fear based?[/quote']

PRE attacks are a hoot when used right. They shouldn't just be used for fear purposes.

    - Impress the ladies before hitting 'em with a Seduction roll.

    - Rally/inspire the troops with a good PRE attack prior to using Teamwork or Tactics.

    - Get that citizen to call the ambulance NOW and then wait for them to arrive rather than stand around gawking.

    - Hit the press with a little PRE attack before answering some questions and you'll likely get a better bite on the 5 o'clock news.

    - Swagger and brag a bit with a PRE attack just before you sit down at the poker table and you might just pull off some 'heroic' bluffs.

    - Use your own PRE to inspire someone else to greatness (when it's safe): "Come on, Johnny. I know you're tired but I bet you can do just two more pull-ups!"

    - Use for no reaction whatsoever--just be impressive. "Remember, kids: Vanguard says no to drugs."

Used properly, PRE attacks can be a hoot.
