  1. Re: Your PCs might be overpowered if... You were able to purchase the content of the known universe under the "+5 points rule."
  2. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine I've tried this site several times with no success whatsoever. My pop-ups are unblocked, java is on and all I ever get is a white screen over the control panel page in the background. I noticed the page is in Portuguese but after using a translating program I still found no instructions. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. Re: Too versatile! I actually like the opposite. Most of my PCs have a limited range of what they can do which promotes team work with the other players and we tend to complement each others powers instead of having 4-6 PCs who overlap. My suggestion is to bite the bullet and build a PC with say...1-2 capabilities (an elemental of nature perhaps?). You may find a renewed interest and challenge in the game by not having all the answers nor abilities to solve every problem.
  4. Recently we had a group of 7 people (6 players & GM) play a game of Champions (5ed). The scenario took about 6 hours to complete. The scenario was some prologue and then the actual fight (about 1 hr prologue and 5 hr combat). At the end 3-4 exp. was awarded. Now, there was a completely new guy who played; never played and superhero game before but has exp. with AD&D (he did quite well for his first time BTW). He commented to me about the length of game time and the lack of exp for playing 6 hours. I explained this is normal for the group I game with but his comments left me thinking...is this really normal for a game of Champions? I've never played at tournaments, conventions, & such so I have no outside experience to draw from. I'm not a gaming "snob" or anything but actually I have never seen Champions run at any local gaming conventions and I go to several yearly (in Memphis, TN). Our core group has been together since 1982 and when Champions was run at a game shop WE were the one doing the running because there was; I am sad to say, not a lot of interest in Champions...except us (our group is 4 members strong from '82-'10). My question is this: What is an average amount of time your gaming group spends on an adventure and what is the average exp. awarded after an adventure?
  5. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... Your communications array consists of several tin cans and a large amount of string. Your team's base has the words "no girls allowed" painted on the front door. Digital watches are "in style" for your team. The "Blankman" duo (from the movie) can kick your team's collective butts. Using a lit, gasoline filled bottle is your PC's idea of a Mega Scale attack.
  6. Re: UAA Clarification Excellent question. I did not specify the exact power in the OP. I will do so now. And it had Indirect as an advantage.
  7. Re: What is the advantage of buying Combat Skill Levels vs OCV? That was a bone of contention in our group at one time. Since martial arts only cost 4-5 pts and Martial Strike gives you the equivalent of +2d6 (8pts) and +2 DCV (10pts) a PC is getting 18pts worth of power for only 4pts. The end result was just an acceptance of the MA skill for what it is.
  8. Re: Cause vomit power... Here's a power I made a while back: 8d6 EB (does no body -1/2), (STUN is only applied for purposes of making target vomit (-3/4). Basically the attack does no real damage to the target. It's only effect is that if the STUN exceeds the target's CON then the target is retching (ie stunned) for a phase. You could also do Dispel CON (sfx vomiting). Since Dispel only lasts til the power is turned back on then after 1 phase of vomiting the CON is back "on" and they are feeling better.
  9. Re: What is the advantage of buying Combat Skill Levels vs OCV? . What about buying CSLs with a limitation "does not affect DCV?" According to the CSL rules the 3 pt CSLs are only for any 3 attacks and the 5 pt CSLs are only for a group of related of attacks. Also, you might consider making a custom CSL of 4 pts each for the attacks of a MP. Just a thought.
  10. Re: UAA Clarification Since the teleport was in a Multipower but was not the active slot, I tend to think it would not work as a defense against the UAA teleport. IOW, just having the potential to use the power, at least IMO, doesn't provide the defense. It needs to be actively available. I think not. Doesn't matter to me if the Multipower is inherent, or on a focus, or whatever. Frankly, that's one of the downsides to a Multipower. You save a bunch of points, but you don't get something for nothing. That is what I thought too. If a vehicle has "shields" (ie Force Field or Force Wall) but the MP slot is not active...say because the power is currently distributed to hyper-drive (FTL Flight, etc) then any attack will only get the defense of the vehicles Armor and DEF but not "shields."
  11. Re: Balancing Duplication Yeah, I was afraid of that. I only have 24 pts to spend right now. I guess I could get around a 15 maybe 20 VPP out of it but I guess I will have to start saving.
  12. Re: How many character sheets is to many? This is a good thread. I entered an old character into the Hero Designer and when I went to preview the print it was about 9 pages. So I feel for y'all. I cannot imagine having to keep up with all that information...
  13. Re: Balancing Duplication Base on the discussion of Duplication, I have a question. Jamie is able to pick up objects and create duplicates who have said objects. I thought about creating an MP with OAF -1 & possible -1/2 representing foci he doesn't actually have but could pick up and use. But then it became messy when I built the slots and thought about the various types of weapons out there. Just small arms can be a real hassle. So then I thought about a VPP with the -1 speedster limitation "only with available materials" (used for entangles). However I only have 24 pts available. Any suggestions?
  14. Re: Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond/Prof. Stien) What is the healing method for this transformation?
  15. Re: UAA Clarification That was my point too. I don't believe it's a parry either but since it was the vehicle that had the defense and not him I ruled against him on both counts.
  16. Re: UAA Clarification I forgot that point. I edited my OP. He already used the MP base in the phase he was attacked.
  17. I have a villain who can teleport things. The other day I attempted to t-port a hero out of his power armor (it is written up as a vehicle). The player does have t-port in a MP but it was not active at the time and he has no power def. His opinion is that even though the t-port was not an active slot he still had the def to t-port UAA (he was correct that I took having t-port as a defense). However, I said that he needed to have an ACTIVE t-port to keep from being moved or if he was the one (& not the vehicle) who had t-port then I could see his point. His MP base was already used in Flight and Force Field. Here is the specific write up: (Teleportation 5" Indirect (+1/2), Usable Against Others (+1) defense is power defense, having T-port powers, AP 2x (+1). What do y'all think?
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Quote from a 1st time player (12 yr old son of an old friend/player). GM: You see the gangster has no armor, and you can pull your 12d6 punch to just knock him out and do some body. Player: Tear his head off! GM: Hmm, you DO have a Strong CAK. Are you sure you want to do that? Player: Okay, Tear his arms off instead!
  19. Re: GAME RELATED: Anyone know the science behind an orbital nuclear burst? Well, I had a discussion with the player and I decided to go with "still alive but comes back as different write up...for now." He has nanites which were protected (LS all safe environs) in his blood stream so we decided he would come back as an energy form and eventually work his way back to being corporeal (eg. Death of Superman). I am looking forward to seeing his write up and I appreciate all the input from y'all.
  20. Re: GAME RELATED: Anyone know the science behind an orbital nuclear burst? Thanks for the tip. I changed it to what he had..both were resistant. And I put in the 15d6KA suggest from Killer Shrike to keep folks from having to read the whole thread.
  21. Re: Talking about doubling equipment A player just asked me today about what I think of the 5 point doubling ability. Basically, he want to create a duplicate MP of weapons and defenses in a power suit and use them independently. Ie, fire in two directions at multiple targets or use Force Field from one MP and RKA from another. All that for just +5 points?! After reading this thread and all or your pros and cons I am going with my gut. He can use it to create a spare suit if #1 gets destroyed or stolen but that's the most I will allow. Thanks for the input!
  22. Re: GAME RELATED: Anyone know the science behind an orbital nuclear burst? The "vehicle" was a powered suit of armor (ie. Iron Man). He was holding the bomb when it went off. He was doing Megascale movement to get out of the city, hence why it was 70+ miles from the surface. I did. I make it a 15d6K
  23. (NOTE: JIC!) Here's the GAME situ. A 5 Kiloton nuclear device was set off over NYC. It was about 70-75 miles from the surface. If anyone has dealt with the science and how it relates in Champions terms to the following I would appreciate it: 1) A PC holding the device had the following defenses: He was in a vehicle with a DEF of 25 (2x Hardened) and the vehicle had 20 BOD. In addition the PC himself had a rPD/rED of 20 (2x Hardened). He has 15 Body. He also (personally not the vehicle has LS: Intense Heat, High Radiation, High Pressure, & Vacuum. He has Power Def (10) bit it is neither Hardened nor Resistant. His Flash Def is 10. I made the damage of the nuke a 15d6 KA. 2) I know at that distance the radiation will dissipate (I checked online to various info) and the atmosphere will bounce most of the gamma, infra red, and other rays to the point where there will be minimal exposure on the surface. If I am incorrect please let me know. 3) The EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) is most concerning to me. According to what I've read a 10 KTon burst at that altitude will cause an EMP about 740 miles in diameter. I found the info at the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse#Characteristics_of_nuclear_EMP Yield is not the issue- how far it is from the surface IS an issue. But once again if I am wrong about the science please let me know. Thank you for any help!
  24. Re: Exotic Force Walls Hmm. Ok Bigbywolf. I will look again. Thanks
  25. Re: The Classic Justice League starting members on 350 points I remember him. That makes sense...I never did like the idea either but I did not know about the history behind it and the writer's faux pas. I actually have this issue...somewhere. You're right here too. Superman should have just about died in that fight and I remember thinking someone dropping the ball by letting him win.
