  1. Re: Transplanted Immortality If we are getting theological: does the clone body have a soul of its own? If so, what we are talking about here is serial murder to keep yourself alive. Something like this was used in the Miles Vorkosagan saga, where clones were grown at accelerated rates for brain transplants as a life extension option for ruthless people. In those books the clones were raised as people until it was time, rather then just lumps of meat in a vat. But there is a lot of grey area in what constitutes The Self. Are you the same in a new body, or someone else? Personally, I'm good on one normal lifespan.
  2. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Appleseed: Ex machina (produced by John Woo) Pumpkin Scissors Top Gear (Netflix starts at season 2. Neither The Wife or I are "car people", but it was a lot of fun) America: The Story of Us. Not the best documentary, but watchable. They re-used the same recreation/CGI shots ad nausium.
  3. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. When shopping at Home Despot: "My wife is an architect, She wears the home-improvement pants in the family."
  4. Re: ...And now the city is mine to control! Muahahahaha!!! Once I have control of the city, and set it running the way it SHOULD be run, the world will recognize my GENUIS, and soon will ask my help in reorganizing the way we live. Sure, there will be some issues as the old, decadent, system is discarded; but TOGETHER, under my brilliant leadership, we can make a better world for the FUTURE! Laugh with me now, MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (Or I'm just going to take over the city to show Debbie from high school that I'm better then those dumb jocks. Once I do that, there is really no reason to try to hold it: mission accomplished.)

  6. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. Today is a clear blue day, sunny and mild. Everything smells fresh and clean and you can see to the next county. "Hurricanes: Natures spin cycle"

  8. Re: This is sort of morbid curiosity but... The STR thing is actually something I like about it. You can take a power to get a lot of the fluff/tricks of being super strong, but not be able to casually KO every bad guy. Of course, you could do the same in Hero with STR, (does not apply to damage) Same thing with "speed tricks" I've not seen the new DC version, but whenever I play M&M, I get the feeling that it really needs another edition to tighten up it's rules. Not sure if the latest ed. fixed a lot of what needed it, but it might have.
  9. Re: This is sort of morbid curiosity but... I also play both, and agree with the Ape. M&M is a lot more fast and loose, easy to build characters and pick up and play. But the system inherited a lot of "quirks" from its d20 roots. There are a lot of mechanics that break down and are prone to abuse once you go to the superhero scale. And M&M lacks the little stop/warning signs in Hero. I think M&M needs a more skilled GM then Hero, but can handle lesser skilled players. On the spectrum of "rules-light" to "detailed & crunchy" it falls towards the middle; with Hero on the detailed side, and Savage Worlds on the light side. All are good systems, some better for some styles of games then others. Some of my issues with M&M might be the fact that we've been playing Pathfinder, which is at least one "edition" more advanced the Mutants and Masterminds (I'm not sure if M&M is based on 3.0 or 3.5.) Pathfinder cleaned up a lot of the skills and combat maneuvers, which makes the game play much better/faster. Overall our group still prefers Hero for anything not D&D. We do play just about everything though. One of our GMs just wrapped up a 4-color M&M arc. He might go back and run some more, but he's shelving it for a bit to run a Savage Worlds fantasy game. In his case, he needs something rules light and simple; fits his style better.
  10. Re: Order of the Stick In other genres, the drow would have said "You have won this day Hero!" and escaped via a chute behind his throne. It's a clear cut case of a re-ocuring villein getting thrashed and escaping. Only the twist is that the hero is the one doing the "running" (via a forced plane shift) rather then the bad guy. So full XP.
  11. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Sucker Punch. A little surreal, but good action.
  12. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Sharktopus. I expected a horrible, cheezy monster flick, and it delivered! I wonder if they were getting kickbacks from the Mexico tourism board. If you could ignore the giant toothed/tentacled horror it played like something from the Travel channel.

  16. Re: Blasters: why? Don't have to worry about ricochets. No spent brass, or bullets that can be traced with ballistics labs. Can be fired in any environment. Posible variable settings (focused for AP, Wide for +to hit, stun)
  17. Re: "Neat" Pictures Needs a utility belt and more cleavage.
  18. Re: "Neat" Pictures You think they'd be using a sub. Very Gyro-ic of them to be going after cans on just a raft...
  19. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. It's not like reality shows are very realistic anyway...
  20. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Tron: Legacy Not a bad film, but I'm sure nostalgia blurred out a lot of flaws.

  22. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I just watched it myself (using this thread to populate my netflix queue) Overall I liked it, but thought they had far to many "art" shots and needless CGI. Almost everyone they had talking was passionate about the subject, they could be fine just cutting from one to another. How many times do we need to see a shot of a sword leaning on a tree at sunset? The latter part of the movie was far more interesting for me then the first part. That might be because I've seen the extra features from the LOTR trilogy, including long bits on the making of the swords for the films. The stuff about the evolution, loss, and reconstruction of western martial arts was cool to learn about. I also would have like to see more about the evolution of the swords used, but perhaps that is another documentary in itself.
