  1. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares A rag-tag group of Samurai defend a town in the old west from bandits, facing down six-shooters armed with katanas.
  2. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I had a creature double feature last night and watched 2010: Moby Dick, and Dragon Wars After reading about Moby, I needed to see it for myself. Of course, forewarned as I was, I had a beer and a martini before watching it (judging that beer alone would not be enough to make it watchable) It was bad. Really bad. But not so over the top bad that it should get singled out from its peers. After all we're talking about the spin the dial, crank out another cheezzy B- scy-fie (or however they spell it these days) movie. Dragon Wars was also bad, but was a tighter movie with a bigger budget and a lot less plot/physics holes. Could have used more "US Army vs. Evil magical dragon-theamed fantasy army" and less "destined ones running from giant snake." The one thing that did bother me a little was the change in venue for the last scene. The hero gets knocked out and taken prisoner outside of L.A. and wakes up in (from what I can tell) Mordor. Which kinda sucks for our hero, because he just gets left there when the credits roll. Also (before drinking) I finished watching Moribito a good mid-fantasy anime I rather enjoyed.
  3. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? The Wife was on a trip last weekend, so I had a "let's see if there is any decent anime on netflix" marathon (plus a few others) Alien vs. Ninja -OMG this was campy. Was fun to watch, would have been better with a few beers The Warlords - It's refreshing to watch foreign films. Hollywood has gotten so formulaic. Claymore -Watched a few episodes, meh Witchblade -Interesting setup, Didn't hook me enough to watch past that point. Rin: Mnemosyne -Imortal investigator, Dark occult horror, Sort of a World of Darkness vibe. Ghost in the Shell. At the time it came out, it might have been cutting edge; just struck me as "meh, cyberpunk" Moribito - Bodyguard agrees to save a prince possessed by some sort of spirit. Hooked me enough to keep watching. (not done yet)
  4. Re: Jokes You say that like it's a bad thing...
  5. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Finally joined the new millennium and got myself a new plasma TV. The Wife and I decided we should spend some money on ourselves to get something nice with our tax return. Broke it in watching: Dr. Who, season 5, disk 3 The Addams Family (there's a movie worth re-watching) Sherlock (the present day re-imaging of the original, quite good) Looking forward to being able to stream and watch stuff on something bigger then my laptop. Should be a lot easier to check out some of the gems people are bringing up in this thread.
  6. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Doctor Who, Season 5, disks 1-2
  7. Re: "Neat" Pictures Who do you think is guarding the treasure?
  8. Re: Order of the Stick When was the last time you saw a plot twist in the party's favor?
  9. Re: Order of the Stick I'm putting my 2c on a deus ex draw. This doesn't feel like the time for that showdown...

  11. Re: "Neat" Pictures Those nice folks in the bio-weapons division say it's all above board...
  12. Re: Quote of the Week From My Life. As I was driving across the NY throughway I passed under a bridge, which had some drainage problems, and a warning sign stating: Be Alert...Falling Water And thought to myself "Wait, isn't that in Pennsylvania?"
  13. Re: "Neat" Pictures Can't help you there, I'm an alien.
  14. Re: Order of the Stick Wealth by Level (guidelines) = How much gear a character should have at a particular level. So you don't have first levels with +5 vorpal swords or epic characters fighting with rusty shortswords. If you stray too far from the WBL you will have a rough/easy time with what should be "balanced" encounters, depending if you are low/high.
  15. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore The problem is that non-euclidian boxes don't fit well on supermarket shelves.
  16. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Flash Gorden The Wife had never seen it, and I felt that that needed to be changed. Wow, was it over the top cheesy. Of course, that's a good thing. Someone needs to the "things not do do when I'm an evil overlord" list and make bingo cards out of it for watching this movie. Either that or turn it into a drinking game. Or both. Bingo!
  17. Re: Jokes If you had used a finer grit, you could have been a smooth criminal...

  20. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares You always thought the two certainties in life were death and taxes... you were wrong!
  21. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? RED. For an "old" movie, there were not as many age jokes as I expected (which was good) Just a lot of action. Fun movie.
  22. Re: Would you marry a near-human alien? A few more thoughts: You would probably be more likely to fall in love with a second generation alien, one who grew up listening to the same music you do, watching the same shows, etc. With the internet and the anomininity it brings, you might not realize that your friend is some alien freak thing. You would have more in common, more things to "click" to connect to with a random alien who grew up on modern earth, then you would with a 100% genetically compatible human who grew up in, say, ancient Egypt. Even if you keep it to just modern times and people, I'm sure there are places you can go on earth where the folks seem totally alien in their ideas and world view. Internet romance happens. That proves that Love can transcend physicality. Can't say that it's for everyone, but it's out there. Some people also go for farm animals, so a little fur a/o tentacles aren't a deal-breaker for some either...
