  1. Re: Npc overload!! Supreme Serpent: Thanks for the advise. I must admit that lately, things have been devolving into a mass sit-com-esque (but still fun) sort of events where the PCs have to manage their wildly inquisitive NPCs from finding about them (or each other). I think I'll probably slowly start having the NPCs get lives and pull back from the PCs, and force the PCs to get to know each other better. Of course, if NPC A decides to propose to NPC B (nicely taking them both out of the picture, and will let me vicariously plan a wedding; which will be doubtlessly annihilated by the PCs' antics), I'm not responsible Best, -SC P.S. What's HERO Warhammer 40K?
  2. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms Prepare for the worst? Oh my, now you've activated my paranoia streams. Dare I ask what a Vondy-style rant is? Best, -SC
  3. Re: Npc overload!! ghost-angel: Nod, perhaps I've been too nutty with the whole NPC gig, but I love making them I think I'll tone them down, but first I have to consolidate them! Best, -SC
  4. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms ghost-angel: Knowing the player, there will be laughs, whether intentional or not. I don't think he's ever played a female character before, so this may be his baby step towards that? An idea that I had was maybe to have an NPC or PC sort of help guide him through it, although this could be a wildly amusing event one way or another. (Maybe I could get his wife to start playing with us? ) Silly question, but besides the obvious (i.e. OMG B00bz!), what kind of outlandishness should I be prepared for? Thanks, -SC Edit: Personally, I'm also relishing the idea of using my growing list of cheesy pick-up lines that have been thrown at me over the years. "Great dress. How's it look on the floor?" "You're the perfect height... on your knees." They get WORSE...
  5. Re: Npc overload!! bigbywolfe: I suppose we're about 75/25 (sadly enough many of us used to be LARPers) in terms of Talkers/Fighters, and I guess that's where the rub is. One thing that's a problem is that many of the heroes have yet to share each other's secret identities, and it's creating distance yet. And well, I mean, who wouldn't like the attention of having your own special world and all Maybe I should start mixing in people's NPCs? It would be interesting if dependants start dating each other or what not. Best, -SC
  6. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms bigbywolfe: I am if anything, incredibly oversensitive, and a worrier None of the players have any gender issues (as far as I can tell). Perhaps I'm overthinking this... Will have to bounce this idea around to a few choice players mayhaps. Thanks, -SC
  7. Hi All, Just wanted to make this post, as I was thinking about all of the various nemesis/rivals I've had over the past (not IRL ), and it got me to thinking about what exactly makes them memorable. I didn't see a thread already for this, and I'd LOVE to see what other people have had as well. If you could tell me about your char, your nemesis and why that particular nemesis stands out, that'd be great! Some of my favorites: Hero: Kazemaru; Mute robot girl refugee from alternate dimension with super speed powers. Pines to be human. Nemesis: Death Pixie; Chaotically destructive AI in the form of a schoolgirl with a big gun. Why it stands out: DP, although dangerous, is very naive, and reminds KM of what she used to be (rampaging destructo-beast). KM wants to help DP, but DP doesn't really understand why "racking up points" isn't a good idea. Hero: Alex O'Malley; Modern Cowgirl with super-strength and regenerative powers. Ace shot too. Nemesis: Black Tiger; Rival with Alex who always considered her "cheating" because of her super powers. Gets her arm blown off trying to "one up" Alex, and consequently sells herself into evil for a replacement cybernetic limb. Why it stands out: Although truly warped, BT makes Alex feel responsible for what happened, and she always tries to bring her in so that noone else gets her between their "feud." Hero: Cassiopea; Immortal amazon with magical abilities. Nemesis: Hercules; Yes, the demigod one. Why it stands out: They used to date. Sort of. But it was a LONG time ago, and Hercules was dead for a while and it just gets... more... complicated from... (sorry self induced aneurysm). Let me know who's the trouble maker for your character, but also (and perhaps more importantly) WHY? Thanks, -SC
  8. Re: Villians Unite Almost all of my villains tend to become teams, if only so I can keep track of them all Partial List: The Sorority Originally named, "The Sorority of Evil," they're a group of all female villains who do a number of world-breaking plans. Their leader is the villainous Black Queen who hates the hero's team founder (and is her father!) for killing her mother. Very fun group, as BQ is a super genius gadgeteer that makes insane plots, and carries them out. Has actually conquered the world 3 times. Been "dead" about a half dozen times. The Princes of Power An all male Brick group, they believe in smashing things and getting away with the goods. Luckily, their leader is smart and strong, otherwise they wouldn't be a threat. The Unmentionables Oh, I love these guys. A group of C-level villains who all banded together because the PC's were arresting them as soon as they got out of jail/asylum. Didn't realize that their team name was umm... used for something else. A fun distraction, and actually a threat if they all get together on a single hero. Still, with minimal leadership and no teamwork, even a pair of heroes can usually bring them in. They don't learn. Ever. Best, -SC
  9. Hi All, The last post went over so well (thanks for everyone's support), that I decided to post the other major criticism of my campaign, and that there's too many NPCs! I like making families, boyfriends/girlfriends (who can become villains), contacts, etc. and well, it's not unusual that each character has a small army after a few weeks. Once you get everyone's individual clique mixing with other people's clique, then it gets even more fun. I know I have a blast. The only problem is that a few of the less talkative players (I'll admit it, they like hitting things), state that if there's not a fight per session, then it's not as interesting for them. Have had a few people leave for that reason too... My question is: How to curtail the NPC plague? I would never think of killing them, but putting too many "on the bus" would be a disservice too. However, it does make it hard for new players to come in, especially since they have to get used to so many faces, and also that some players like their NPCs so much, that they can hog game time... General help! Thanks, -SC
  10. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms FireTiger: I was also interested in the idea, as I love Golden Age villains, and yes, she does look exactly the same (I think she even has that 40's weave effect). As for the character, I think he was going for a "shy guy" normal, kind of like Peter Parker, who uses the form to come out of his shell (so to speak). bubba smith: Thanks! I wouldn't mind any advise. -SC
  11. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms Wow! Thanks for your advise everyone. I was just dead set against allowing the character in, now I'm not so sure. I should have made it more clear that the guy playing the "Ranma" character has been in the campaign before, but took a break, so it's not that anyone (as far as I know) has an issue with it. As for gender issues, well, I hope his wife knows It's funny, I've never had a concern when a female player wants to play a male character (Vampire protective male; guess which movie everyone went to go see ). I wonder if there's some sort of strange relationship fulfillment issue when players play the opposite sex... Thanks again, -SC
  12. Re: Escaped Amorphoid Kazemaru would probably be the ONLY character in the group who would think about befriending the creature. She'd use her super-speed to find it and then try and help it learn how to be a constructive member of super-society. Best, -SC
  13. Re: Paths Not Taken Oh thank goodness someone made this thread! Mary Jane Watson gets bitten by the spider instead of Peter Parker. She immediately uses her powers to get out of her crappy (probably abusive) household and starts living big. Then tragedy strikes as a robber she could have stopped ends up killing Peter who jumps in the way of the bullet meant for Uncle Ben. World torn upside down, she becomes Spider-Woman. Best, -SC
  14. Re: Teen Hero Names Doug McCrae: :visible wince: I hope that someone would have told them that the "R-Word" is something you don't want in your hero name. I always went with the idea that if it could be some kind of cheesy pick-up line, then a boy will make it his super-hero name. Best, -SC
  15. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms Certified Nod, having to play Team Mom is hard! Welcome to the club! Since basically all of my friends are players in the game, the last thing I want is built up tension about a GAME to get in the way of us IRL. Hmm... Wonder if I'm birdwalking away from the subject too much... Best, -SC
  16. Re: Slow Time power question. Speaking as a speedster, actually Drain SPD is actually pretty crippling if done right. Having a SPD much higher (2 higher) than the fastest character in the group lets me get a lot done, and when combined with multiple attacks, it's the base behind my offensive tactics. A drop of SPD to party norm will start to worry me, and another hit would make me normal level. Granted it wouldn't hurt my offensive ability, but it would limit my combat moves (I wouldn't be able to say, leave the immediate area to get equipment, save hostages, put out fires, trip enemies, or do any of the other little bits). For normals, a SPD drain can only be bad if you knock them down to SPD 1, in which case, you can actually easily make them suffer massive DCV penalties due to multiple attacks, as they can't dodge you well enough. Entirely realistic? No. Able to mess people up? Yes. Best, -SC
  17. Re: Need An Archnemesis I usually like to take a "What If" approach when designing Archnemeses. Why not try making a character who is another offspring of Zeus, and was the apple of Zeus' eye until your character came along to replace him. If you want build up slow, you can make an adventure around him trying to kill your character, and then we they do the big reveal, he can be banished to Earth as a punishment. And of course, then you have Zeus do something incredibly prickish (since the Greek Gods were incredibly petty) and say put a curse on your rival. Oh, and if I were running things, I'd let you (the player) choose between blinding, making him utterly hideous, and the good old-fashioned castration. Of course, they wouldn't take away his immortality. What would be the fun in that? Best, -SC
  18. Re: Teen Hero Names Oh, I love teen heroes! Unnamed Mentalist (if female): Dream Girl (oldy but goodie), (if male): MindScrew Were-Doggy (if male): GrimFang Best, -SC
  19. Re: Female/Male Super-Forms Certified: Thanks for your post. I did ask the player to make another character just in case... As for bringing it up with my group, well, the majority of the players are fairly non-confrontational (heavens knows I can be too...) and I just don't want people's feelings getting hurt for real. Of course, the other character is a lot LESS interesting (basically sort of like Spider-Man, but with guns and wolverine-style healing), but I suppose it'll be ok too... Best, -SC
  20. Re: Wanted: Heroes Kazemaru is from an alternate dimension completely ruled by robots. Being an android refugee herself, it'd be the height of hypocrisy to not let them stay. Although, she'd want to make sure they're being straight with her and then she'd support them 100%. Best, -SC
  21. Re: Waking up with not-so-super powers I would love the ability to negate odors by touch. Imagine what you could do... although you'd have to touch it (ick). Best, -SC
  22. Hi All, I'm new to the forum, but a long time watcher Hope you don't mind I get right to my post. I have a new character coming into the group soon, and it's an interesting concept. The character is a teenage boy who discovers his grandmother's magic amulet and turns into a super-powered heroine. (Yes, he can change back) (His grandmother used to be that super-heroine back in the 40's) However, since nobody has told him how to use the amulet, it's stuck and he's now prone to accidental changes, but wants to use the powers for the good of all. Power wise, the character is a bit of a brick, with few skills, and the player is also a good mate and knows pretty much how to act politely. And since the player is a guy, of course she's stunningly beautiful. I just wasn't sure if I should allow the character, as I didn't want anything too insulting/insensitive popping up (ladies (and me) are present at the gaming table). I have hopes that it won't get too juvenile, but well, I'm not sure if this is a can of worms I should be opening. On the other hand, it could be a LOT of fun too... I'm torn (like always) and I was hoping to get other's inputs. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to spending time here! -SC
