  3. Re: Starting in a new Champions game Manimal! I remember seeing that on TV! What an old show...
  4. Re: buying weapons (money or points?) Well I will admit to fudging the number of points available, especially if the PC's did a humdinger of a job roleplaying. What they don't know and all
  5. Re: Starting in a new Champions game OK, but I was mainly responding to the "Demons and magic users fighting other demons and magic users in Modern Times amoung normals that have no idea what's going on around them" part of your post.
  6. Re: Starting in a new Champions game Illyana! One of my favorite four part mini-series in the 80's was about her.
  7. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I actually liked it a lot. I was really disappointed about it ending like it did. But a friend of mine said the word at Comic Con was it is the prelude to a new series. If it is true then I am only irritated that I have already watched it before the rest of the series is available. I prefer to wait for an entire series to be out before I start to watch it.
  8. Re: Starting in a new Champions game OK, that sounds good. I agree with Yansuf, Succubi and Rakshasa were evil creatures. Since you also like werewolves (also evil) how about something like this. Make her a Shaman who is a “skinwalker”. She can take the shape of animals. How about name her Raven since the Raven was one of the NW American trickster gods. Or maybe “____” Daughter of Raven. In addition to shape changing she could weave wards and rituals of protection from evil and so on. I’d avoid Dragons unless you are going to push the game into the supers range. Only D&D portrays dragons as wimps. In most lore Dragons are always spelled with a capital D and are God level beings. Gnomes, Satyr’s and Centaurs don’t blend with humans and would stand out like sore thumbs in a world that the PC’s want to blend like “normals”. Vampires, besides being a way overdone, don’t tend to be great for good guys. It’s the blood drinking thing. How about this for the PC line-up: A Shaman skinwalker. A modern Mage (ala Dresden) A Private Investigator who is a master martial artist. A Gadgeteer tech/computer genious.
  9. Re: Help.....i Need Some Help!!!! The PC’s are in San Francisco when Asian-English Butler is approached by Amanda Peterson the daughter of Professor Jonathan Peterson. Asian-English Butler is an old friend of the family from the days when the professor and his then living wife had worked on a project in London. It has been over 10 years, but his reputation has prompted Amanda to ask for help. Professor Peterson is the lead scientist working on a Top Secret project for the US Government and has disappeared. The lab burned to the ground and no one in the government will talk to her and rumors say that the professor is suspected of treason. After the Mystery Men begin to investigate things look bad. Gunslinger’s investigation uncovers that the Professor was seen boarding the “Shingetau Maru” a Japanese freighter bound for Singapore. The witness remembered not because of the professor but the beautiful woman that accompanied him to the ship. Based on the description Gunslinger traces her to a Hotel in Chinatown and discovers it is none other than Shen Lihwa (in reality Ming Wei from Masterminds & Madmen) the infamous leader of the Bing Kong Tong. Consorting with a criminal organization! A Japanese ship, Singapore? Top Secret project for the US Military! Can our heroes solve the mystery? Will the disappearing professor be absolved of wrong doing or must the innocent Amanda discover her father is a traitor! What dark secrets hide in the shadows of the South Pacific, only time will tell.
  10. Re: Help.....i Need Some Help!!!! What is the feel you are going for? Gritty'ness wise. Also for a timeline, the one in Pulp Hero is great. Unless that isn't what you mean by a timeline. Also have you tried any of the Hero Plus adventures?
  11. Re: Starting in a new Champions game Maybe a little more info on the game setting. I'm not a big Hellboy fan and I need a little more info on game feel, will it be bronze age super or maybe iron?
  12. Re: Help.....i Need Some Help!!!! Do you have a more detailed list of pc's yet?
  13. Re: buying weapons (money or points?) Absolutely. I have used XP debt myself and it really works well. Depending on the players. I first used the whole "mystery xp" thing when some of the players in a old game really disliked XP Debt. At first I just kept a "XP bank" and then some of them didn't want to know how many points were in there. It kind of grew.
  14. Re: buying weapons (money or points?) Yep, that is my take too. But this isn't really a problem for me. Take Thia's Paladin and Holy Avenger example. For me a Holy Avenger isn't something he will get easily or quickly. By the time he goes through the wringer er...quest and actually lays his hands on it he will have easily accumulated enough points. Of course I am the evil blasphemer that uses mystery XP. Over a period of time I siphon off about 1 point in 8 or so toward just this kind of thing. Not a lot at any given time, but occasionally telling them they got 2 instead of 3 points doesn't cause that big of a ripple and in the end they aren't scrambling to come up with points. Just another approach from an evil control freak GM
  15. I friend recommended a kids book called Operation Red Jericho by Joshua Mowll as a source for a pulp game. I picked it up and can only say it is a fantastic gaming resource. It includes fold out maps, pics of newspaper clippings and all kinds of extra's to set the tone and fill in blanks for someone reading a adventure taking place in 1920. Color foldouts of the ship, deck plans and room diagrams. All kinds of crunchy goodness.

  19. Re: Hero System and Rpg.net Only because we allow you to think so......... these are not the droids you are looking for......
  20. Re: Hero System and Rpg.net That is a really cool idea. I may have to borrow it
  21. Re: GM style Question That is pretty much the standard way I do my "mystery power" games. They make the general "normal PC", we then collaborate on the initial "special thing" that makes the character realize they are not "normal" that will fit the game world and appeal to the player. I then finish out the "hidden abilities" as needed. But my aim is for the players to "discover" his hidden abilities in the first story arc. Actually, discovering them usually was the first arc.
  22. Re: GM style Question I've played games like that, and have had both good one and really bad ones. No help there I would suggest a modification that I have found works well. The players have a character sheet but it contains what they know. You have the complete full sheet. In the best games I have played, I first discussed the campaign with the players and they built the initial PC. The normal version. Then I added the points/build for the special stuff tailored in the general direction they wanted to play. But this style of play appeals to a small group. Be sure the players are OK with it. Not just saying they are, but also understand what they are agreeing to.
  23. Re: VILLAINS, VANDALS, AND VERMIN -- What Would *You* Like To See? Like Brother Nightroad from Trinity Blood maybe? A terrorist villain is a good call, but that could be anything. Any solo can be tweeked into a terrorist. JMO of course
