Arrow has been even better this season, in my view. With the exception of the character of Laurel who really got annoying (and even SHE might be on the mend) all the characters have been engaging. A few are underused, but that's hardly a problem. Some villains didn't translate as well as others, but that's par for the course on these things. It's got soap opera elements and a lot of eye candy for the ladies but if you can deal with that, it's also got some kick ass action , decent actors and some good shout outs now and then for the geeks. For example, they have already mentioned KORD industries more than once, and IIRC, they're going to eventually introduce Ted. Whether he'll actually be the Blue Beetle, I don't know.

As for the Flash stuff, I saw the episodes where they had Barry on a visit. I thought the actor managed to portray him as quite likable and a bit nerdy...which suited Barry fine to my thinking.
What they've shown us of the suit looks great!

And I loved the 90s Flash
Damn, I had a huge crush on Amanda Pays which may have biased me.

Bear in mind that after the first two films Run Run Shaw made the rest and he seemed to have no problem with it. The films reduce the racism of the books and Fu Manchu is a strong figure bent on world domination. The Chinese are not shown as weak but an exceptional individual is portrayed as evil. Sir Christopher Lee has commented on the whole thing as has Tsai Chin who played Lin Tang. Both characters are played as strong, intelligent and have no noticeable weaknesses such as drug addiction. Fu Manchu is also mobile so he is not confined to one country nor are his followers all Chinese. Thus I would say that the films can be enjoyed and pirated for Pulp Action games.

Gravity. A reminder that Sandra Bullock can act. And nice to see something where a woman does not have to act sexy.

The Given Sacrifice by S.M. Stirling.   4th book of Emberverse III.  Or the 10th book in the series.    I have enjoyed the series, both the Emberverse and the not quite related 'Island in the Sea of Time' series.

I enjoyed the Emberverse because it is a nice change of pace from 'standard' fantasy/scifi.  And it is one of the very very very few fantasy series in the universe still in print that does not have vampires, werewolves or zombies.   That alone makes it the best current fantasy series in existence.

I liked it.  I have to admit that early Thor (pre-85ish) was always one of my favs.

Even with changes I like what they are doing with Thor in the movies.  I really liked the glimpse into event that occurred in Asgard past and that the Earth is not the center of things.

All in all I liked it.  The movie had all the ingredients to be great.

    But,

I can't put my finger on it and have to admit that as much as I liked it, there is a definite feeling that something just didn't quite make it.    Like the movie just fell short of the goal.

But even with that, it was miles better than most of the stuff inflicted on people these days....

Foyle's War.  It's is a British crime drama set in WW2 Britain.  Really Really good.  I mean it.

It's a TV series but the episodes are around 90+ minutes each, with 3-5 a season, with Netflix carrying 6 seasons.

Some of the best TV I have watched in a long time.

yes but GoT is not British. it is an American cable show.

The half season of 13 episodes at 45 min each work out to be 585 mins

The 10 episodes of GoT at 60 mins each are 600 mins.

So the cable show has a longer running time.

Edit: for comparison the Lord of the Rings extended Blu-ray edition is 726 mins

The first screened episode of Police Woman with Angie Dickinson as Pepper Anderson. This is about a bank robbing group. Pretty good.

I agree 100% with Kaze9999. Hunger Games was a good movie, but a better book.

Another movie that I recently saw and felt the same way about it was Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. While movie was entertaining, the book was outstanding and far superior from a story-telling standpoint.

Last night I watched Zulu as it will be the 135th anniversary of the battle in a week or so.

Also recently finished The Daleks and Edge of Destruction with William Hartnell as the Doctor. Very good.

A solid piece of work. I thought that the introduction of the Big Bads so early in the series might be playing too many dramatic cards too quickly. I was also offput by the gun fanboyism. I love to shoot and I love guns, but I have never been exactly to the point where I can (or want to) quote manufacturer and model number. It was a jarring break from the narrative every time a new toy was mentioned. A few other things kept this from being a solid 5/5. I'll give it a 3.5 out of 5 though.

Read the "I Am Number Four" series and actually found it a fun read and compelling! It is very much a YA read, and plot holes and other less than adult novel issues abound, but I didn't regret the time spent reading them and found the setting inspirational enough to wonder about setting a teen champions game in it.
