    power level

I have a quick question for all you “hero heads†out there. What point cost are you all currently running in your groups? We are using 5th ed rules to run 265(ish) point characters. I think that this is due to the fact the a majority of the villains in my groups game a home brew verity, and built under 4th ed @ 250 points. I have found the character creation process to be much more fun at the higher levels. You seem to have the points to put in some “cool†stuff that may or may not be totally effective but is fun to have on the character. So the root question here is what power level are y’all runnin’, and do you enjoy it. Also lets say someone is running a 300 pt power level, is there any kind of source for villains at that level, or is boiling down the CKC a little as good as we can get? Lok

    Using ARGENT

hide in plain site I think an interesting way to use them would be to treat them like a behind the scenes Microsoft. Why should they get their hands dirty when they can slowly dole out the technology to BOTH sides? If they were smart they would sell upgraded blasters to viper, then after 6 months or so of UNTIL getting their butts handed to them, sell them the improved FF belt. Wash Rinse & Repeat until filthy rich. Now if some heroes were to stumble upon the vicious plot well… that could be interesting with Viper, UNTIL and the heroes all working together?? Oh man… gotta go start my own campaign. Seriously though, why be in front when behind the curtain is really where the power and money are?
  4. good post... made me think Don’t be afraid to express your opinion! Your post got me to thinking, was I truly as impressed as I think I am OR am I just in nirvana to have my hero back? I think it could be a combination of both. I guess I would say I LOVE the super hero setting, and Hero does it better than any other (IMHO). So is it the best? yes (for me), could it be better? Sure Also I think anytime you are looking at a Campaign Setting book like Champions you will rarely find something that you like “as writtenâ€. There will be bits a pieces that you will want to implement and some you may want to throw out. I have not run with a GM yet who hasn’t wanted to put their own “stamp†on the game, the setting and the play style. Perhaps if you look at it like a big bound book of campaign brain storming that will help you see value in the product. Just my thoughts and thank you for the thought provoking post. Lok
  5. i agree... sort of I pretty much agree with the other 2 post only, you may even consider boiling it down to 10 pointer. How committed is he/she to avoiding violence? Sounds like a cool character idea though. Good luck
  6. Ahh yes the quote from the fiance! lmao that is very funny
  7. Yeah i can understand that staement! I have run a pure brick, but i do tend to get a litlle bored with them. Although soaking up all that damage can be ALOT of fun. I think the key to running an interesting brick is REALLY developing a back story and giving them alot of personality. That makes them fun to play and gives them some versitility that they lack in combat. IMHO
  8. Re: Do not name an NPC Johnson Markus... i beat you by like 12 hours! Funny to see we both posted on the same story though! I still smile when i think of all the low brow jokes!
  9. low brow... but funny! Not to steal my GM’s thunder but this one is too funny to wait, AND he sleeps in later than I do. Ok a little set up. We have done some detective work and find out that (not joke here) Major Payne is stealing technology from our friendly neighborhood UNTIL clone (called FORT). Major Payne calls US to his office; we are thinking “Great we got him, no problem, game over, lets get more pizzaâ€. We get there and he tells us that it is not him who is behind it, but it was Captain Johnson. (Now admittedly I don’t think our GM had thought about the name that much and it just leapt into his mind and he ran with it… he will NEVER do that again). After the complete run down my character decides to summarize the situation: “Let me get this straight. You have a Rogue Johnson on your hands and you want us to get a hold of it for you??†Low brow I know, but damn it was funny. There were about 400 other Johnson jokes, to the point where we had to put a moratorium on all Johnson jokes for the rest of the night, which didn’t work of course, but at least we tried. Lok
  10. Re: Why are bricks so popular? I think it has to do with the LARGE volume of stuff you have to deal with when making your first champs character. You either end up with a hodge-podge of different skills and abilities that dont really mesh into a clear concept or a brick (at least in my experiance). I think this is because bricks are by nature prety straight forward. I think for total newbies it is REALLY a good idea for a begining character. Not alot of VPP's or Multiple slots to deal with. Lok
  11. Re: How do you know when to Dive for Cover? It sounds like from reading this that you are having a problem with your players Diving for Cover too much. If this is the case, simply make them pay for having done so. If they continue to dive for cover, then (as someone mentionied) hit them when theyare at 1/2 CV with those pesky held actions, or just have the enemy brick load up and wack em a good one. Happy hunting!
  12. very nice Good stuff Publius! I must say even in reading the stuff on your site it just pulls me in. Perhaps i am a sucker for this kind of stuff, but it just seems to give life the world. You can see things that may turn into plot seeds and some that may go no where, and then the best is when there are things that you have NO intention of being a plot seed that the characters run off with. Good fun! Lok-
  13. Re: A rose by any other would smell as sweet My first pass at this but... here we go: Glow Luminos (sp) Radiance You could then add an ajactive to work in the armor angle: Iron Radiance Steel Glow blah blah blah... as i am re-reading these i dont know... but at least i tried huh?
  14. Re: Re: i think its pretty good... That is a great idea... that would shape this guy up into a real wrecking machine i would think! 6SPD, up to 14 on OCV or DCV... very nice heh heh.
  15. OH... and There is even a Jimmy Dugan (SP??) type guy who is named Neigl Peaks and i have taken him as a contact with my EXP and has evolved into a major part of our world. Even now as we speak he is trying to recover from being kidnaped and a bomb put into his chest to make an example out of him. So in responce he is out there trying to get his hands on some technology (from an in game group similar to Argent i might add) to get some revenge... and we have to try and find a way to stop him and help our friend. Nice roll play opportunites all from a little ol' newspaper.
  16. we have one We have one in our camp. It is pretty standard fare as far as websites go (in responce to someone who said they didnt know how to make it look like a newspaper format) and as a player it is GREAT! Its fun to see your actions in print, and we all seem to get the "good write up" from time to time. Also it is a good way to help new players to our game get a foundation in what is and has been going on. Also it helps our players who miss (i am sure none of you have that problem) get caught up a little. Our GM puts it up every (ok... most) thursdays and i find my self looking forward to press day every week. (hmmm... what a geek i am huh?)
  17. i think its pretty good... Nicly done i'd say. I think that the character is built as "not to get hit guy" and with 4 H-t-H levels and 4 w/DCV i think he could be running around with a 14DCV if he wants... that dont suck. The only problem i see with him is most "built not to get hit" guys tend to have a higher speed, so they can attact on phases when the other guys cant and not risk not putting their levels into DCV. Also though i know you are going for the Normal with the Doc Oc Arms, so a higher speed might mess that up for you. I guess i was thinking more from a combat effectiveness, and what would be fun to run in a game. Other than that nice job... IMHO.
  18. he heh... drugs Yeah... but i was on like 12 different kinds of meds for my cold... so it could have been the drugs talkin'
  19. delay also dont underestimate the power of a delay. If your guy is faster, he can wait until a character does a move that makes him easier to hit (martial artist who does an off. strike will lower their DCV for example). Also your bricks can use the same trick to go first later on in the combat, if you think it will be a tatical advantage. Keith
  20. aborting yes they can abbort... but only once AND it cost them their attack. So if they abbort, have another baddie just nail them with a second AE attack. The real key to getting their DCV down is either getting one of them grabbed or in an entangle. That will make them easier to hit, and give you a better chance.
  21. ok here are some ideas >>Bedlam: Team leader....brick...60 STR...21 DEX...4 SPD...20->>30 Defs..hardened...full life support...no significant >>movement powers. Bricks can be tough because they can soak up so much damage. You may want to try annoying him with someone with serious movement powers or who is very hard to his (high DCV) alot of bricks have PSY. LIMS that make them want a chanange or some other such problem, use that to your advantage and have him chasing around the guy he needs a 17 to be able to hit all combat. >>Dark Sun: A "jedi" type character..with all the powers >>associated with that concept...plus..can also use "force >>lightning". 24 DEX...5 SPD..relatively low defenses. Hmmm can be tough. Find your match up that has the best OCV so that he can be hit, and take advantage of those low deffences, ALSO AOE attacks will be the best bet on attacking this guy. >>Hound: Shapeshifting martial artist...also possesses keen >>smell and hearing...and has supernaturally keen claws...25 >>DEX...5 SPD....good fighter.. Same approach as on the Jedi guy. Just make sure you have a reasonable chance of hitting, or just attack the hex with AOE attacks. >>Quick Step: Speedster...stats and powers very close to >>Kinetik from Champions Universe(who doesn't exist in my >>world). At 26 DEX 7 SPD...and 20" movement..by far the >>fastest team member. Grab or entangle, you have to slow this guy down. Once he is stopped focus ALL your attacks on him. He wont be slowed for long so you have to hit them HARD when they are. >>Spiritwalker: The mystic...attack powers have the >>Activation, Focus(OIF), and Incantations limitation... >>attacks..include energy blast..entangle....and unusual >>powers like Mind control and EGO attack..along with a >>body drain..only on non-sentient.. This character also hase >>a teleport of 20" with no limitations beyond x2 END. 23 DEX >>5 SPD Focus means take it away. Also a flash would work really well on this guy or even some kind of flash to vocal so that he cannot use his incantations. In general i like to use focus on the softies (low deffence characters) first, get them out of the way, then hopefully when you have numbers you can focus on the bricks or other high deff characters. Also if this is their thrid time going after them they could have spent a few villian exp. on something that will be particularly effective against one or more of the heros. Perhaps a STR drain grenade that they open the combat with to take out the brick leader guy. Just some thoughts. I dont have my book with the villians handy thats why i am speaking in general terms.
  22. OK here is one. In my gaming group I run the Grab and Squeeze brick named Pitbull who is VERY overconfident and a total smart a$$. Pitbull grabs generic viper agent #1 and squeeze him into unconsciousness. He casually drops the agent and turns to the Super Villain that has been recruited to try and fight him off. (Special thanks to the rapper Fifty Cent… how in the world did a Fifty Cent line make it into a champions game… don’t ask..) PB: “You’re like a pop tart sweetheart†Villain: “Huh?†PB: “You’re soft in the middle†Grab… squeeze… KO’D super baddie
  23. thanks for the feed back guys! I will post when he is done. Lok
  24. Hey guys I am looking to make a luck based character and could use some help/input. I have the basics covered I think. The idea is that his stats will be pretty normal just you’re average Joe, but real… real… REAL lucky. Here are the ideas that I have come up with, let me know if I have missed some (and I am sure I have) Also if this is a thread that has been covered somewhere else please let me know, I did a couple of searches but didn’t come up with much. Ok off we go: 1) Levels with DCV/OCV my Dex is low… but somehow I hit. 2) Find weakness with a particular attack 3) Dex drain area effect selective (just an idea) 4) KA only vs. machinery only to dismantle (things he wants to break, always seem to have problems) 5) I also read in the UNTIL source book about the indirect EB that was to simulate things falling on the opposition, that was kinda cool. I figure he will be real hard to hit, but kind of soft when he does get hit. I am having a little trouble with the “main attack†not that I have to even have one, I could be Mr. Nuisance and just cause problems for the opposition on the battle field. Any advice/help out there?
