  2. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call Warburton would make a funny (if rather brawny) Foxbat.
  3. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call What you say three times ain't necessarily true.
  4. Re: Anyone combine Champs with Call of Cuthulu? Not completely retaining his sanity: "It is hard to explain just how a single sight of a tangible object with measurable dimensions could so shake and change a man; and we may only say that there is about certain outlines and entities a power of symbolism and suggestion which acts frightfully on a sensitive thinker's perspective and whispers terrible hints of obscure cosmic relationships and unnameable realities behind the protective illusions of common vision. In that second look Willett saw such an outline or entity, for during the next few instants he was undoubtedly as stark raving mad as any inmate of Dr. Waite's private hospital." He does get better, though.
  5. Re: Anyone combine Champs with Call of Cuthulu? Well, not permanently mad, anyway-- Armitage has a day or so of delerious fever after he puts the big clues together, and it's hard to say if Curtis Whateley will bounce back from the shock of what he saw.
  6. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call Yeah.
  7. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call For most moviegoers, British accents seem to be "sufficiently foreign" for the job (and have been so since the 30s, I swear); that said, it wouldn't eliminate the possibility of Christopher Lee as the voice of Destroyer as I think he can do a German accent. He certainly does speak German (and French. And Italian. And several more languages on top of those, at least at a conversational level)...
  8. Re: Foxbat: A place in your campaign? That sounds more like the kind of street theatre I'd have Lady Blue do.
  9. Re: Naive question: Semi-Conscious Control? Yeah, I think the last one is what I'm thinking of. Like I said, I was mildly surprised it wasn't given as an example anywhere.
  10. I was re-reading FRed the other evening and looking at the entry for the "No Conscious Control" limitation, and noted the following quote: "The GM could occasionally allow the character to turn on the Power, but if allowed, this should involve substantial penalties...." Then I found myself thinking about the Teen Titans cartoon episode with the Puppet King and Starfire and Raven switching bodies. In that, Starfire learns fairly quickly how to not set off Raven's powers all the time-- but there is a gag moment when she successfully pulls off the conscious control and her delight in that pushes the emotional limit enough to set off the power by accident! This sort of "semi-conscious control"-- where the character can and does use the power fairly well but sometimes accidentally goes off when excited-- seems like it would fit well in a Teen Champions campaign, and I was just wondering if that book had a writeup of the limitation. FRed doesn't really seem to have one formally written up (Enraged, Accidental Change, and Activation Roll really don't fit). Anyone ever written up such a limitation? It seems like it'd be a -1/2 at the most depending on how dangerous the power is...
  11. Re: Another *fresh* look at some of our faves. Cute... but who's the second girl supposed to be? (From top to bottom, I'm seeing Supergirl, ?, the Huntress, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy)
  12. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call Admittedly, casting a dead guy as Takofanes WOULD be strangely appropriate but it does make getting good recordings difficult. (Latta died in 1994.)
  13. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call Mm, I dunno. I mean, do you not like Doctor Doom because he's melodramatic rather than creepy? Megalomaniacal villains who do the monologue thing and come up with globe-spanning plans of Evil and Destruction have a long and respectable history. There's probably a creepy villain out there who Walken could do better without having to alter Destroyer's fundamental character (though for some reason I'm drawing a blank on just who in the Champs universe might be unusually well-suited to Walken's style). As for an animated Foxbat, I'd draw on an earlier poster's suggestion and have Adam West voice it. Gary Owens (the original Space Ghost) or George Lowe (Space Ghost: Coast to Coast) would be pretty funny as well.
  14. Re: When Bad Translators Attack! After I posted, I realized Dr. Jackstraw would've been a swell name for the Gotham by Gaslight version of The Scarecrow (assuming he didn't end up becoming Springheel Jack)....
  15. Re: When Bad Translators Attack! Yeah, actually, I kinda like the sound of Dr. Jackstraw.
  16. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call But Dr. Destroyer isn't *creepy*. He's melodramatic.
  17. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call I could see a temptation by a studio to cast a Wayans as ZigZag. Also, while a little of Jim Carrey goes a long way with me, especially in his more spazzy comic mode, he might just make a good Merry Andrew.
  18. Re: Champions Universe Movie Casting Call I don't know if he has to be a comedian so much as a comic actor-- or possibly even a serious actor playing the inherent ridiculousness straight-faced (after all Foxbat sees himself in quite a dramatic way). Personally, I'm thinking Patrick Warburton. And if Seeker exists, there's a an awful strong temptation to make him Steve Irwin...

    Re-Imaged X-men

Re: Re-Imaged X-men A very skilled artist, but yeah, I like having a mutant or two who's actually, y'know, happy once in a while.
  20. Re: Was watching Superman TAS and wondered about Mxyzptlk It was Gilbert Gottfried. And now you know why Andrea Romano has 5 Emmys.
  21. Re: Hindu-themed hero Here you can have a look at a genuine Indian superhero comic. Just remember to pick up all the bits of your brain that ooze out of your ears afterwards.
  22. Re: WWYCD: Stark Contrast Irving's already got achromatic color blindness, so he wouldn't be losing *quite* as much information as most, but it would annoy him and he'd probably seek out the help of his teammates pretty quickly. My husband's character Elizabeth-- who I think I've mentioned here-- sees the entire EM spectrum, so it would depend on how the effect manifested: if the non-visual spectra still showed up, giving the effect of Gibson's opening line of Neuromancer ("the color of television tuned to a dead channel") she'd be infuriated and probably track the guy down to pummel him. If it really did reduce the visual information to a black-and-white line effect, she'd probably find the relative quiet relaxing for a while-- and then track the guy down and pummel him for dicking around with her.
