And, regarding Galactic Champions itself: I thought Viperia also made it to that time, but I could be mistaken (only skimmed the book in the store, making Sinistar jokes).

Re: Who was the LAMEST? In college, a comic-collecting friend of mine picked up all 10 issues of this. He seemed to take a perverse pride in observing that even in the swelling comics price bubble of the early 90s, this comic's price went *down* according to Overstreet. And while someone should've told Ditko he couldn't bring back the 60s anymore, and the character design was loopy even for Ditko, the power itself was kind of interesting. I've tried to model super-bouncing in Champs with mixed degrees of success.

Re: Character For review: Dryad Yeah, I kind of thought you might be going there, but I think if I were going to model a heroine on the seductive and amoral fey folk I might at least hint at that aspect in her personality-- and I didn't really see it in the writeup as such. (It also wouldn't necessarily be very heroic.)

Re: Character For review: Dryad Understood. I think I just wanted to vent my vague apprehension here. And, for the record, I think the 'Sex Object' and 'People fall HARD for her' disads are redundant. Replacing the latter one with a stalker, or three (some form of Hunted) might be entertaining.

Re: Help me build the Civic Guard I really like "I Know a Guy...". I think you oughta submit it to the online USPDB. It wouldn't be bad for a Dark Champions game either, though it might need a slightly reduced class size (ie, any human in the city/county/state) for that street-level feel.

Re: Who was the LAMEST? Uh, you never actually *read* the first issue of the Claremont solo Wolverine comic back in 1988, did you? Claremont was obviously going down a list and checking bits off as he went along... "Okay, 'I'm the best there is at what I do', got that-- telling the reader about his healing factor, check-- mentioning that adamantium is the hardest stuff around, gotcha..." Awful. I think he churned it out as fast as he could so he could get back to Excalibur.

Re: Appropriateness of "Automaton" advantages for a PC "Take No STUN" has some real game-balance issues, but I think "No Hit Locations" and "Does Not Bleed" could be used pretty safely-- in fact, if I rewrote Irving for 5th edition I might ask a GM if they'd be considered legit advantages, as he *is* a solid stone statue... (Actually "bleeding" could be construed as "the body got so damaged the animating life-force is no longer contained within it" in Irving's case.)

Re: Christpher Reeves It was a terrible shame. I think most people were pulling for him to beat this thing, even though the odds were so bad. (Teeny nitpick: his last name is Reeve. The Superman with the pluralized last name was George Reeves from the 50s TV show.)

Re: What is it about Champions? Yeah, but Murphy's Rules tended to inspire more humor than "Geez, I wouldn't play THAT!" reaction to games (there were a LOT of D&D ones there, after all!). I think the fact that HERO is, by modern game design standards, still quite rules-heavy/dense, and that there is a lot of math, or at least a lot of fraction multiplying, tends to intimidate the new folks. As for rpg.net's reactions... well, to be honest one of the main HERO detractors over there does his research about as well as Bob Larsen did his research on the satanic nature of D&D. Nuf sed.

Re: OT: Was I even missed? Yeah, I'm doing okay now. I probably *should* have posted in the NGD board, but the truth is, the Champs board is the only one here I use enough for anyone to notice if I were gone. Hopefully, the next doctor's visit (Oct. 4) will let me know if I can start putting weight on the foot and walking with a cane instead of scooting around in a wheelchair or clonking along on a walker.

Re: Unusual Character Ideas Alas, there is nothing (or at least not much) new under the sun, as the Wild Cards book series had a character called Lazy Dragon who could do something very similar. I think though, that he was limited to animals, and he had to project his spirit into them, leaving his body someplace safe. Washi, I take it, has less or different limitations. P.S. I don't think the character is any less cool, BTW.

Re: I Can't Believe He Played That! Well, it got vetoed on the spot, for what it's worth. He then tried to come up with a speedster character who was a prostitute. Like I said, we try to avoid him now.

I thought I'd have what would be a nice, hectic move on the weekend of July 31st from my old apartment to my new one-- only a couple blocks from our original place, but on a second floor. With the help of family we got all the crates moved in, I saw my husband off to the archaeological dig he was going to on August 1st in Nevada (this had been planned well before the move), and settled in. Monday night, August 2nd, I figured I'd dump some trash I found and maybe have a nice snack before settling in for a night's sleep and planning how to start unpacking. Three steps down from the bottom I apparently thought I had reached the bottom of the stairs, stepped out, and fell *hard*. In particular, I never remembered my left ankle pivoting quite that far in before... Yep, you guessed it. Broken ankle. In multiple places. Never broke a bone in my life before and started by doing it so thoroughly that I had 4 hours of surgery to place a metal plate and a couple of screws in place. Even now I'm not supposed to put my weight on it for at least two more weeks. So, for the last month I'd been living at the house of two friends (who ALSO had just moved that weekend!) where I didn't have to climb stairs. Only last Friday, the 11th, when my husband got home and could assist me in crawling up the stairs and unpacking, have I even been able to get set up enough to get online for the first time tonight.
