I have the new High Guard along with the New Traveller by Mongoose

there are plenty of options that out do the old traveller

I believe there are ship for the Terran Empire in the Ultiamte Vehicle book

I got the new Traveller just for building ships

I'm using as a guide for how much space is needed buy various systems

then converting the ships to Hero System

I see you are being accepted to the Rainbow's End team

I'm on the Rainbow Trail team so you are joining our rivals(I'm playing Legend/Elizabeth Perrot/ Sidhe character welcome to the game

    As a side note:

I just registered on Hero Central recently. I will be making a character soon to play by post once I've found a campaign and GM willing to take me!

I will draw this character and post it here and list the character sheet for you all when I am done it and let you know which campaign I joined! Now the tough part is to come up with a concept... hmmm...

  4. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread

cool I'm in 4 games but only 3 are active

But I'm have a great time playing on HC

it takes a little getting use to but once you have it down it works great

  5. Re: Be careful what you wish for

maybe her fighting somebody or crushing something(she can reduce something to a singularity)

    have fun

I like seeing pictures of my characters done by different artist(becasues I can't draw to save my self)

I have others that I would like to see done if you want more challenges

a female sidhe/fey who is both a song based muse/energy projector and minoring in being a brick and is about 5'tall(fantasy)

a male martial artist who is a master at throwing things(most coins) and fighting(both hand to hand and ranged martial arts) with a large flowing cape and mask

    gadget belt

I don't know if I would do any better than the two you posted here. They both look well done. What are you looking for? The character looks interesting though.
  6. Re: Lingering Teleport

what you do is use summon to have a little demon(or something your choice) at your beck and call for 5 minutes

he sits on your shoulder until you have him t-port you somewhere or 5 mins goes by

you have the limitation that once summoned he will only stay for 5 minutes

the t-port uses the summoned's phase not yours you can even have a waited move

Teleportation, Lingering (5 minutes), Gestures, Incantations, Extra time (delayed phase).

I'm trying to create a spell in which I cast it and now I can Teleport for the next 5 minutes. The above outline does that. The problem I'm having is that I want it to take a zero phase action to teleport, not a half or full. How would you guys go about doing this? Trigger?

Teleport is a movement power so I assume it takes the usual "half phase" to move up to half your hex's and a "full phase" to move up to your max. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  7. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread

when Wraith is in hero form only her body is invisible(and heavy fringe effect more SFX than power, she would only be invisible if she was naked like the invisible man 1930's movie and LXG)she conceals it by wearing a costume that makes her appear as if she is invisible

the empty suit is her normal hero form

when you see flesh her powers are turned off

her desolid looks like the Silver Surfer form the latest FF movie

if she goes invisible she is invisible(clothes too)

    hope this helps

here is one you can have fun with

    cloak inside) black

    cloak outside)dark blue

    Wraith striking.jpg

I can draw anything... The problem is coming up with what "anything" is...

...and it has to be cool to draw. Otherwise it is boring for me and becomes actual work. Since I do this for fun, I do really want to have "fun" drawing it. ;)

I am always looking for unique, fun character ideas. Any hero can be used as a villain, and vice versa. Unique and cool costume ideas are helpful for me to put my spin on it.

I do draw people's characters for free fairly often (Yes no strings attached! Say it can't be so!) if I like the idea and want to use it for myself as a villain or NPC in my campaign, or if it is just plain interesting and I feel the desire to draw it. :) You probably saw that with the Tike thread.

Otherwise I get PM's with commission requests and those take precedence over whatever I am doing at the time. I am not actively trying to get commissions (but I do them from time to time as people ask). :)

I do have small ideas trickling in my mind. Drawing a male modern jester type villain-mastermind with toy minions. Also a female Ice Controller based character.

If any of you have ideas, please feel free to share them no matter how rough they are. Brainstorming sometimes comes up with many interesting things.

  9. Re: Post-Apoc: Earth's Magnetic "Shield" Failure

considering that the poles flip about every 250,000 yrs and we are overdue by 500,000 yrs

I'd say having a few cracks every now and then it is due

still going to look into getting an AA12

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atchisson_Assault_Shotgun

the funny thing is all the worry over global warming and nobody can claim green house gases are the cause since the magnetosphere is created by the earth's iron core

and it is our first line of defence

the ozone layer is a distant 2nd and it will only protect for maybe 3000yrs

should the flip take over then longest which was a 1000 yrs

maybe we should see about going underground

  10. Re: Can you see where I'm coming from?

Wolverine wore yellow spandex and snuck around all the time

but got caught when he was given the power to be invisible to anything but eyes with free will(Nimrod could almost perceive those X-men when it was on the verge of being totally sentient)

    why

in the first case he is that good at sneaking around

the second he was not even trying and forgot the effect of "the siege perilous"

for me it comes down to

you have a visible sfx going it is going to be a bonus to those that may spot you(+1 to +5)I'd say +1 for every 10 active topping out at +5

you may be that good if you buy up your stealth

you will only be making 1/2 moves but there are the balances that are there

To be clear about the problems I have in practice with power visibility, I'm able well enough to deal with it in 99% of cases, but it does come up when, for instance, someone has a glowing force field and they are trying to sneak up on someone in a darkened area - you'd think that walking round with a light source in the dark would make it pretty obvious you were there - but whether it does or not is a judgement call. Indeed, could the character have legitimately bought the power with the 'noisy' limitation (or whatever it is called)?

The propblem is I may not adjudicate the same way twice in a row because it does not come up that often. Maybe that is just the fault of my failing memory.

Of slightly more concern is the fact that 'IPE' is so expensive for what it does, and that tends to penalise the player who builds a character to concept. Most of the time having invisible powers simply does not justify the expense of a +1 advantage.

I think that a slightly different approach to visibility could make things easier all around.

  11. Re: Blast with Fade

this kind of attack is not one that is going to take anybody out in 1 or 2 phases

it is one that is going to be that thorn in the side that keeps the target off balance or on the defensive

it is most likely going to need either NND or penatration to make it worth wild to even attempt

and maybe area effect on top of that

you could either go with a costs end to turn on or pay the end per die and decrease it on each following die(this will mean you should figure our beforehand how long you want to last

EB 3d6, Costs END Only To Activate (+1/4)

    Uncontrolled (+1/2)

    Penetrating (+1/2)

    Continuous (+1)

Area Of Effect (5" Radius; +1)

    (64 Active Points)

Limited Power Power loses about a fourth of its effectiveness (decreases 1 die per phase; -1/4)

and you need to define how to defeat it(uncontrolled)

272 ■ Character Creation: Power Modifiers (FREd)

    Power Modifiers

    UNCONTROLLED

Value: + ½ Advantage; the Power must already be

    Constant

A Constant Power with this Advantage can maintain

itself without conscious thought from its user.

Th e base power must be Constant (either inherently,

or because Continuous was purchased for it).

To set up an Uncontrolled power, the character

must activate and use the power as normal

(including succeeding with an Attack Roll, if

necessary). Once successful, the character feeds

as much END as he desires into the power to

create a pool of END to fuel it. Th e Uncontrolled

power runs for as long as there’s END to power it.

However, any power bought with this Advantage

must have a reasonably common and obvious set

of circumstances that will turn it off or negate it.

(An Uncontrolled HTH attack should have “target

moves out of HTH Combat range” as the condition

[or one of the conditions] that causes the

    Uncontrolled effect to cease.)

so if this is say fire then moving out of it or even failing a dive for cover(if you dove far enough) means it would only last 1 phase unless you defined it as those in the area at the time of casting are affected then you could define the negator as stop drop and roll

I have a character who uses what I call soulfire(napalm for the soul)

it sticks only to those that where in the area of effect at the time it was cast and to negate it you have to stop and consentrate to put it out

    1 phase at dcv 0

    and it has continuous,uncontrolled,AVLD(power def),1/2 end.area hexes x4

and is ment more as something for agents and minor villians to deal with and leave me alone or fall to it's power over time

and it is only 2 dice

That's possible, I could be underpricing it. I had forgotten about the Continuous bit, so that would put the base to ... eh, +1 1/2. I dunno. That almost seems OVER priced. But yes, Sean has the right of it, I expunged all the in between and said "POOF, Advantage that does it all and makes sense." I think at 1 1/2 it covers everything, with a 'cost break' for both:

-- The inability to adjust it; Continuous you can keep using it until you run out of END, here it's set in place

-- The massive price jump in Active is going to (at minimum) double the END cost, so I'm not concerned with that, and

-- It loses its effect over time; its set in place, and if you want it to go longer, you have to pay for that.

I'll agree with Beast that +3/4 my be underpriced, but I don't know if 1 1/2 isn't overpriced for what you're really doing.

  12. Re: And the old shall swallow the new...

so far if there has been been with Cryptic ithas been slight from the view from here(on the boards and from what DOJ has posted on the home page)

hopefully it will add only a week or 2 if that

The one that worries me is

    4) Everything stays the same contractually, but approval from Atari for RPG books is slowed down to a crawl. Cryptic still has approval and such on things (IIRC) - it could really nail the RPG but keep the MMO going.

  13. Re: Heavy character with Teleport

it would be the unicorn and any equipment that the unicorn had(barding, saddle bags)

so the 600kg unicorn is fine with the base teleport

should the unicorn want to carry that virgin knight it would need to pay +5 pts for the extra 100kg want to carry 2 virgin knights +5 more pts to carry the extra 200 kg

want to t-port 400 kg that will be a total of +15 pts to your base teleport

100 kg is the default wt of a character unless otherwise stated but the extra mass carried starts at 100 kg and doubles for every +5pts paid on top of the base teleport power

    Thanks!

What about the answer to my first question... What would the unicorn's capacity be?

    -Crissa

  14. Re: And the old shall swallow the new...

1 of 3 things can happen

1 it all stay as is and the worry is over nothing

2 Atari dumps the Champions IP to go for some other

3 Atari say to DOJ this is ours now so go away(in which case they will have to honor the contract with DOJ and pay them off)

as for a new IP yeah the Champions IP has over 25 yrs of background

so it will take a while to build a new one it but then the characters from 1st edition have not been seen since 3rd edition and the current characters are not the same as the 4th edition ones as those have changes alot in the change from 4th to 5th

the thing is when Atari bought up Cryptic they bought the license also

if they want it changed they will have to hammer out a new one

now granted this may be a way to intro 6th edition with a new supers universe it would mean DOJ would have to start fresh so a new iconic mega villian would need to be written up but then DOJ could write up a few and see who flys the best with the pubkic

Dr D was not the only mega villian when they first put out the enemies books

Atari bought Cryptic out. Completely. All properties belonging to Cryptic now belong to Atari. The contract was between DOJ and Cryptic. Not Atari and DOJ. I believe there is a severe questionable area regarding what Atari can do with what is now its exclusive property. Or even if they have to pay even a slight bit of heed to DOJ at all.

Yes, DOJ could create a new Supers IP. But that IP will not have the same weight that the Champions IP did. DOJ would be starting completely over. Name recognition counts for a lot. The new Supers IP would need time to be established. And there is no guarantee it would actually succeed.

  15. Re: And the old shall swallow the new...

    it would still apply

just that if Atari does not want DOJ doing anything else they will have to pay a hefty sum to buy out the forever license that Cryptic signed

and if that where the case DOJ would just have to start a new superhero IP

I think this is more the case of a Atari trying to get 2 maybe 3 winners under it's belt(not know what the 3rd unnamed MMO is)

The problem that comes up with the aquisition of Cryptic by Atari is that the license that Hero Games has with Cryptic may not apply anymore.
  16. Re: Continous *Continous* Damage Shield

    add uncontrolled instead of sticky

when you get hit you can just pump in end or charges to keep it going

I'll say it costs alot to do a damage shield compared to a straight up attack but buying a small attack and adding nnd or penatrating will get some damage through

imho the way DSs are intended to be secondary and not main powers

I buy EB. It wont let me buy Damage shield till I buy Continous. I buy continous, now I buy damage shield. Ok, so when someone hits me, they take damage, but I want them to keep taking damage, after just hitting me once, like a normal continous would. It wont let me buy continous twice (meaning the HD program). Buying it once doesn't normally have that effect with Damage Shield.

I buy sticky too, so that when other people touch the first guy, they get it. Sticky says that after someone moves out of an area effect attack that is sticky, they keep taking damage. If damage shield counts as aoe, then it works. If not, how do I build it?

a friend of mine who was recently hired by Cryptic back at the beginning of November said

"Only in great ways. Very excited and upbeat about the acquisition!"

there may be more fingers in the pie when it comes to approving things but it looks to be that they are keeping the same crew

so there will not be a need to get others up to speed to take over

"I got a bad feeling about this."

 Of course we have no idea what is going behind t"he scenes, but I thought things were going well for Cryptic. I don't want to be but I'm thinking doom. :(

yeah that was my fingers in the pie comment

DoJ's license for using the Champions IP is in perptuity. However, that license can be bought out by Cryptic/Atari for a large fee payable to DoJ -- this is according to Steve and Darren. And if this does happen, Hero Games will just create a new superhero universe to use with its product and rename its superhero genre book.

The one area where I could see this deal having an effect on Hero is if Atari decides that its people in addition to Cryptic's need to be part of the approval process.

depends on how many points you want to play with

cheapest is just stealth at 3pts

you can buy this up but an 18 still fail and your opponet may have or get a lucky perception roll

you could buy your running with invisible power effects

    sound(does not matter the surface)

    sight(leave no tell tale tracks)

touch(nobody can feel your foot falls)

teleport(must be able to traverse the distance on foot(things like to far to leap to slippery to climb but can get past any door cross open fields unnoticed never step on a landmine or trigger a sensor except in the start and end hexes)
