  1. Re: Find Weakness, again

since AP and Find weakness both at least halve the targets defenses

    it would be unfair

here are some sfx that do not require accuracy to work

1)finding the the frequency at which the target operates at and getting close or matching it to bypass defenses

2)(it uses a little accuracy)to strike the targets defenses at a 0 degree deflection angle or as close as possible(does not matter where just hitting at 0 degrees)

this is the basis for sloped armors

as right angle structures are easier to build than sloped or angled ones and have an easier use of internal space

3)data base of all defense types and the proper attack to use against them

on board systems mod attacks to best defeat that defense as more info is gained on that particular defense as it pertains to the target carrying it

there you go 2.5 ways of using find weakness that does not need greater accuracy

Let me clarify my earlier statement.

Any sfx explanation for the use of Find Weakness that doesn't use 'accuracy' as its basis is actually better represented by other abilities. A Naked Armor Piercing or NND Advantage with RSR would cover your example quite nicely. I challenge you to come up with a sfx for Find Weakness that is not 'accuracy' and iat the same time is not also easily/better represented by Armor Piercing and/or NND.

I think the #1 issue I have with both the current Find Weakness as well as your proposed replacement is the issue of 'target lock'. Why does succeeding with it once in a combat mean that it will work on subsequent attacks vs. the same target? That's another argument for AP as well. But you're wanting to make this a Talent again (closer to a Skill I'm guessing). The fixed cost argument against using HitLoc rules loses some steam here. Unless HitLoc-boy has +8 PSL's vs vs. Hit Locations he ends up reducing his chances of actually hitting a target whenever he attempts a targeted shot.

The other potential defense against HitLoc targeting would be Defense Maneuver. I think its use could include a bonus vs. specific targeted locations (like the head) as well.

Also, anyone can defend against attacks targeting a specific Hit Location.

    It's called Dodging. :doi:

  2. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy

    Hi there Savinien

I'm Beastttt and I'm playing Piety Layla Tudor

here is how I see what characters are being portrayed IMHO

Symm)Priest/Warrior/Ranger very good at what he does,is having something with Piety(he calls her by her middle name Layla)he plays music and paints gothy(dark, not the hand stapled to forehead angsty)

Gymmer)Warrior/Knight Leader/face/spokesman for the group(probably the most stable person

    Deeson)Techno-mage/hi cover/ranged attacks/inventor always tinkering with stuff

Michael)Undead-Warrior ,driven, suffers midly from Post tramatic syndrome(PTS) possible replacement cook(taking the Were-wolf's place)

    Piety Layla)Bard/short ranged area attacks/healer/muse

has no memories prior to being freed from a statue

has great str goddess level beauty, fae features

is having something with Symm(they flirt sleep together, but nobody can say for sure that they are a couple)

if you have HDv3 you can download the characters and look at what is covered(in the characters section of the A New Dawn area

if you need help PM me and I can try I'm sure any of the other players will help

Hello players of A New Dawn.

From the PM I received, it looks like I've got a chance to join your vaunted group, but I don't have any ideas on a character at this point. After reading through, I was thinking of a lizardman geomancer type... Could shift that to elementalist, maybe?

I've always had this idea for a character that was a lizardman druid/ranger (but not limited to that). He could cast enhancement spells mostly, but needed foci (fetid water, moss, etc). It is a really vague concept and I'm curious about suggestions.

  3. Re: Utility Belts

some items may only controlled or powered by the utility belt

as sensors may be part of the characters mask

a swing line winch, spool and power supply are on the belt while the launcher is in the vambraces

also depending on the character's concept pouches of holding,n-space,set programed effect nanites can have lots of ways of carrying lots of gadgets

  4. Re: "I can't bring myself to kill, but..."

I would take away the CvK and call the act, extra, time and extra end as the cvk lim

my character Wraith has a CvK but also has a 6d6 body drain which is ment to destroy things

She would have to be under great stress to even think about using it on a living being(after having used up other options)

ego rolls to use such attacks is already built into CvK

taking another activate is IMHO is not the way to go

using those limitations I think to simulate a character inner conflict is great

hopefully you have some attacks that you do not need use those limitations

  5. Re: Super Action rules interpretation

I gave you an example of what to do

you just need to be desolid before the start of your phase

then go solid after you pass through the force wall

it gets the effect you want

you just have to set your self up 1 phase before you do it

you could be desolid and dodging to draw fire from your target or not

this is a way and there is no need to have a complex build

  6. Re: Super Action rules interpretation

the hero would have had to already be desolid before his phase starts

then he could pass through the force wall then become solid to hit the villian

it is a matter of timing

this is where the hero needs to think 1 or 2 moves ahead of the time

now this may also prove to be a problem for the speedster as the cost of force-walls can be huge(might not be a problem for the villian)as it might have a small area it covers if it is all incompassing and the speedster will have no chance to slow down

and slam into the backside of the force wall

the villian may also sucker the speedster by putting his back to the wall to add to not getting knocked backed so the speedster takes full damage

  7. Re: Is there going to be a heroes book?

with 6th edition only 6 to 7 months away

getting an idea on how heroes should cost out with the possible changes that have been brought up in the 6th ed forums(from removing secondary characteristics entirely to tweaking some to take over from others)

also a listing of "Jobs that I can come back to without loosing should an emergency arise and need to leave in a hurry to save the DNPC/city/country/world/universe/ etc"

  8. Re: WWYCD: "Dear Superhero" (Warning: Ugly situation)

Wraith:lots of rebel and government arms will go missing

leaders will be haunted and terrorized

Silk Detective:lots of dead rebels and government types if caught in the act(lots of covert video)big explosions and lots of .45 cal ammo expended

Precision:lots of equipment missing, non lethal but embarrassing traps and catch and release, lots of troops with broken weapon hands and weapons

Puma:lots of slash marks and blood

Nightmare:leaders changing their minds and working for good

  9. Re: Double Ended Weapons

it is a quarter staff that also slices and dices

I could easily see it having bonuses for parrying

build it as 2 light sabers so the character can fight a 2 weapon style and connect it for quarter staff style

you could also do a martial arts style with it

while it was different looking weapon from everybody elses

the style fought was a staff/spear then going to a single sword once one end was destroyed

this would be a custom weapon not an off the rack that you could buy/find in the armory

    it would be a multipower

  10. Re: WW2 Guns and Vehicles

here is a link to XML files that where done for the Combat Mission computer games

the links are near the bothom

CM:Beyond Overlord covers the western front from D-Day to the end of the war

CM:Barbarossa to Berlin covers the invasion of Russia to the fall of Berlin from the eastern front

    CM:Afrika Korp covers north africa,Italy,Greece,Crete

the armor values are in mm,plus spaced armor if any and slope of the main armor in degrees

gun values are by Gun/ type of shot/muzzle velocity(the higher it is in this game the more accurate+optics and other factors)/Blast factor/penatration at 100m/500m/1000m/2000m and angel of attack 0deg/30deg/60deg

these games are the best WW2 tank & infantry sims I have seen

the values given on the excel sheet are averages for those ranges

under the hood the game computes to the meter for range, wind, weather, shot type ,and angel of attack to the degree

I hope these list help you with what ever vehicles you want to do

    main armor+spaced armor/slope

  11. Re: While we're changing the system, change damage

not bad for a just a straight eb or str attack

    I would go this way

for a 5pt per die power 1 die may be set at a 6

for a 10 pt per die power 1 die may be set 2 pips above the roll

for anything above 15 pts per die the character may set 1 die 1 pip higher

rolling a 3 has a devestating advantage on a killing attack where it is just a bit of a boost to a normal attack

especially in games that have 45 active or greater point powers

    How about this:

For every 1 rolled on your to-hit dice, you can set 5 points worth of your effect dice to the best possible result.

Thus, for one 1 rolled and standard damage, set one die to a 6 and roll the rest. For three 1s, set three dice to 6.

An effect that gets one die per 10 effect points could set a half die to 3 with one 1 on the to hit roll (and roll the other half due if left over) or set a full die to 6 with two 1s. An effect with 15 points per die sets a half die on two 1s, a full die on three 1s.

  12. Re: WW2 Guns and Vehicles

there are 2 versions of GAC

first was by Firebird games and was for 3ed champions

and Hero did an updated version for 4th

    I have both

the vehicles section in both lack any russian vehicles(though through lend lease there was a lot of american equipment given to the russians)

    Hi all

I am after stats for common German and Russian guns and vehicles for a horror one-shot I am writing. I have searched other threads but the only recommended sources are:

    (1) Golden Age Champions (Gold Rush Games) - OOP

    (2) Hero Plus supplements e.g. Unknown Eagles pdf - OOP beyond torrent

    (3) Convert from GURPS WW2

Now I have (3), lots of them in fact, but would appreciate some pointers on converting equipment vehicles from Gurps 3E (4E if you include High Tech) to Hero 5E.

Do you think Hero Games would consider re-releasing some of the OOP material such as (1) and (2) as pdf only?

    Thanks

    Ian

Legend is a she and a sidhe

Sings? He doesn't... at least not so anyone could hear him. His powers absorb sounds around him' date=' including his own voice. No one, including himself, has heard his actual voice since he was 13. When he "speaks", he either uses ASL, or projects the sounds he has stored as his "voice".[/quote']
