And that was out of a population of 103-106 million. Probably most Americans knew someone who died from it. I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been to live through.

I have seen graves in the local graveyard of several younger people who died in their 20s, late 1918 through 1919

It was from Spanish Flu as it was 1913, but grandmother had an older sister who died from some fever at age 4 (grandmother not born till 1917, but it was always weird to know a relative had died like that)

I have a fever, wet cough and muscle pains.  Waiting to hear back from the doctor now on when I can get tested. :(

If it helps, my mother had nausea, vomit, and dizzy yesterday. But is doing better today (probably regular stomach virus).,

Dalton did nothing while he was in, so his loss isn't that impactful.  it's post Dak;  they had, at least in principle, a puncher's chance.  That's gone.

And remember, they got beaten down by *Washington*.  Not by a good team, or even a mediocre team.

Fantasy note:  the Cowboys defense/special teams are-9 through 7 games;  last year's *awful* Dolphins, who threatened to set a number of (negative) records on defense last year, were only -8.  (From one of the ESPN fantasy guys.)

EDIT:  Cam got yanked after another disastrous performance.  9/15 for under 100 yards and 3 picks.  Speculation already happening about whether he'll start next week.

Well a patriot fan at work speculated that Stidham would be the #1 by years end. (Though I think Newton's fragility was a factor in his reasoning

It's been one of those weeks.  Bengals score to take the lead but let Baker march the Browns 75 yards with no TOs.

Badger:  I did specify right now.  The Cowboy defense is giving up a touchdown a game more.  The Dallas offense racked up yards and points in garbage time so its significance is highly questionable;  meanwhile, they led the league in TOs and were last in TO margin before today.  NOW against another bad team, they barely manage a single FG...IIRC it was a 45 yard kick after gaining all of 7 yards...average well under 3 yards a play.  So *that* side is gone.

So I'd have to still lean to saying the Cowboys are worse, but to be sure, it could be splitting hairs.

    Well yeah post Andy Dalton

Debate, first impressions about 50 minutes in.

Trump is on ADD medication. Unnaturally (for him) calm.

Biden is deliberately pulling his punches and not going for openings Trump is leaving him. Biden also is not defending himself on the fake emails...and isn't pointing out that the FBI is investigating them as a Russian intelligence operation.

Maybe pulling his punches is a strategy since he's ahead and doesn't want to appear too aggressive.

I don't understand at all why he isn't trying to forcefully deny the emails. Whether they're completely true (yeah, right) or not, the thing to do politically is to deny they're true forcefully.

    edit:

Trump really making an outreach to the Latino community by saying only those refugees and illegal immigrants who have low IQ's show up for their court dates.

    edit:

Trump said, "I am the least racist person in this room". A statement which would include the audience, the moderator, and his own advisors who came to the debate with him. Then Trump said it again and specifically said that he was including the audience that he was less racist than them. Note some of his own family were supposed to be in the audience but I don't know if they actually showed up.

Yeah, I am not convinced he is as ahead as the polls claim.  Maybe ahead, but the country is too divided for him to pull off the quasi-Mondale beatdown some of the polls claim.

Plus those polls are way too similar to 2016. And well, did the pollsters bother to learn from history?

  6. Yeah, Montreal always gets mentioned in relocation talks, apparently forgetting how the last 7 or 8 years of Expos attendance was like. (making Miami and Tampa look good)

The strike complicated things, and fans would likely come for a year or 2.  But, once the team has a rebuilding ebb would they be back to the Expos of that time and their troubles?

  7. I haven't seen too many 80s episodes, ones I have, I found to be inferior to the original  (a high bar, to be fair, but because I just couldnt)

Anyway, it was just how I would have done it, all cyclical and all

I remember being very upset when I saw that episode precisely because the original story does not have an upbeat ending. I don't know why they felt the need to do that.

I could see one path to make a kind of almost bittersweet ending.

It was that star's "Armageddon", perhaps in the past, Jesus had been born on their planet, and preached and died.

But, one day, our sun would be destroyed in Revelations, and it would be the"star of Bethlehem" for another civilization.

I wasn't trying to fill in empty spaces with this thread, I just wanted a conversation that I could take part in. I never watched B5, DS9, Voyager, or Stargate SG1*. So I'm out of those threads.

    *Just started recently, actually.

I watched Stargate the movie. Never really got into the series, I have watched about 15 to 20 episodes, though.

Yeah, the analysts - A-Rod, Smoltz and Pierzynski this whole playoffs have been going crazy with these situations, especially, guy on third exaggerated shift on and first baseman or third baseman having to hold runner, why cant professional ball players push a ball that even if doesn't leave the dirt area, probably means a run.

My dad has been going crazy for years about, if they shift on you learn to bunt for a hit occasionally.   Mickey Mantle interestingly was one of the better bunt for a hitters ever.

As an aside, I was a decent hunter in high school, due to Brett Butler fandom.

  11. I do know my dad's pet peeve is runner on 3rd, less than 2 outs, going on contact. Too many outs at home, and a needless sacrifice of 2 bases.

Of course, I should mention my dad really doesn't Braves nor Dodgers much, and probably slept through the game.

He does kind of admire the Ray's despite being a di isional rival.

    I don't mind that part.

I did mind that he knowingly sent his surrogates out to lie about Gingrich's record (that Gingrich was one of Reagan's greatest obstacles when in reality he was known as one of Reagan's greatest supporters) while Romney was pretending to be a clean, upright Christian man and asking people to vote for him on the basis of being a clean, upright, Christian man.

I suppose it's easier to pull off that pretense if you have a cadre of people who are willing to lie for you. But it doesn't make you any more honest than a person who does his lying for himself.

I ended voting for Romney, because he wasn't Obama, in hindsight.

The mistake of voting against instead of for, is why I didn't cast a vote in 2016, and probably here (assuming Trump either/or Biden doesn't prove to marginally more palatable than a vacant lawn chair to me).

I'm surprised that we do not have a DS9 episode list yet.

Or for the fact that we do not have a Dr Who one yet.

Or Buffy the Vampire Slayer especially given the original devotion of some of the posters here for Ms E Dushku

Not saying these threads should start, just saying

    Haven't watched much Dr. Who.

Time travel makes me brain hurt.
