  2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This more OOC funny timing than anything else. We start a fight. Doc Turbine, Pulp brick at large, charges in and starts laying about with fists the size of turkeys! Violent Emissions, our friendly neighborhood support blaster, starts laying down cover fire, but she starts taking some huge hits, as does Arcanna, our resident mystic. Doc tells them to pull back so they can recover, and he'll hold the line. Which he does, wracking up a pile of unconscious agents and sub-leaders around him as he goes. Arcanna and VE charge back in to see the devastation, Doc still standing strong. Doc's Player OOC: "I am GODZILLA, and you are TOKYO!" Doc: "It's okay ladies, I think that took the fight out of them."
  3. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game We're going to be trying to run some red-sides to 50. I want my villain EAT.
  4. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States "Gunny Ramos" Gunnery Sergeant Rebecca Ramos was darn near born screaming "OORAH!" She grew up a tomboy in a family with four brothers, and a history of service. Their roots in the US Marine Corps went all the way back to a distant past and one of the first Continental Marines. Rebecca was determined to follow the family career, and she enlisted on her 18th birthday. She flew through Basic at Paris Island, or as she thought of it, "Summer Camp." After growing up with a literal Drill Instructor for a father, the physical rigors were almost passe. It was shortly thereafter that her final run on the confidence course altered her life forever. An alien invasion chose possibly the worst single time ever to attempt to gain a beachhead. Attacked by the Marines and recruits of Paris Island, the aliens were sent packing. The fighting had been fierce, but the casualties were surprisingly low due to the aliens ignorance of the inhabitants. One however, was not to fortunate. Rebecca had run to protect the generator building after she ground troops from the alien ship moving to destroy the base's power. No power would mean that a lot of the Marine's optioins would be curtailed, and Rebecca was not going to let that happen. A 20 minute game of cat and mouse ensued, and ended with abrupt finality when they unloaded their mass dispersal explosives on the generator that Rebecca has just dove behind. The explosion did shunt power, but by then, the battle was pretty much a foregone conclusion. Rebecca was pulled from the wreckage, seemingly just stunned, despite the tons of rubble that had buried her. She recovered slowly, but as she neared the end of her therapy, she started surpassing every previous physical benchmark she had set in basic. Soon, she was blowing those benchmarks out of the water. About then, the DoD took an interest in Rebecca, and se began a period of service to her country that included serving as part of Marine Force Recon S, the powered branch of the Corps. She mustered out to the resrves as a Gunnery Sergeant, and to this day, still goes by "Gunney Ramos" in her native South Carolina. With superhuman strength, speed, endurance and resilience, Gunney Ramos is already a force to be reckoned with, but the twin gauntlets she wears allow her to perform a variety of tricks based on vibrational control. Not the least of which, is bypassing armor, or reaching through a wall to grab a target. Pictures: Two for one. Gunney Ramos in her dress blues, and in her field gear.
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Hellboy Commercials. You MUST Watch the James Lipton ones... "Booyah!"
  6. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States I'll give it a shot, but I need to talk to my buddy the Marine first.
  7. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares We can go where we want to, we can leave your friends behind. Cuz your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance, then they're no friends of mine. *Makes spastic quasi-S arm motion as a dance*

  9. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States I can't see the map at work, but do we have South Carolina? I ask because Paris Island is down by Hilton Head, and few places scream Marine Corps, like PI.
  10. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Power Rangers Ninja Force 10 from Navarone.
  11. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States Okay, not quite as rich colorwise, but I still haven't installed GIMP, so I'm stuck with MS Paint. Here's my bid for D.C. Representation Matthew Lillian was in his final year at Georgetown when a conglomeration of evil rolled through town intent on harnessing the mystical power of belief that resided in all national monuments. The effort had been extreme, the task Herculean, but now, the forces of injustice stood poised to rend all of the hope and belief from a troubled nation and use it to power their plans for world domination! Strangely, no other heroes or groups were nearby when Matthew happened upon the group of sorcerers draining the Lincoln Memorial, so he did what he felt in his heart was right, even though his brain was yelling at him to stop. He of course, charged. The energies were disrupted at a crucial point, and now brimming with power, Matthew was able to send the mystics packing. As he made it to the next monument, he got his burgdeoning powers under control, and discovered that in addition to being a bit stronger and a LOT tougher, he could literally make four score and seven more of himself, merely by thinking "of the people, by the people, for the people..." It's long been said that D.C. is the ultimate example of legislation without representation, but one man is aiming to change at least part of that.
  12. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Now see, I think I might pay money to see the bloodbath in that one... But to stay on topic... Big Trouble in Stuart Little.
  13. Re: Jokes James Bond walks into a bar and takes a seat next to a very attractive woman. He gives her a quick glance, then casually looks at his watch for a moment. The woman notices this and asks, "Is your date running late?" "No", he replies, "Q's just given me this state-of- the-art watch and I was just testing it." The intrigued woman says, "A state-of-the-art watch? What's so special about it?" Bond explains, " It uses alpha waves to talk to me telepathically." The lady says, what's it telling you now?" "Well, it says you're not wearing any panties...." The woman giggles and replies, "Well it must be broken because I am wearing panties!" Bond tuts, taps his watch and says, "Damn thing's an hour fast."
  14. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game We (Me, Shinitra, Kid Jurrasic, and 4 other random folk with amazingly good attitudes) finally beat that sucker and got our Roman costume pieces. I have to agree that it is a hellacious amount of work to get those pieces, and I probably will not be doing it again unless I know I have up to 4 hours on a Sunday to kill, and I've done all the prelim work already. That said, it is a decent TF as all things go, but HARD. The right mix is darn near crucial, which since it only unlocks the Roman pieces for one toon, is sort of a PITA. I died in epic amounts. I was the tank. I didn't drop until the final fights, but near the end there...I dunno, I just stopped counting after 10 deaths. Like I said though, we had a team with a really good attitude and one guy who seemed to know all the foibles of the TF who saw us through. As stated, we might have been able to do it faster with a different mix, but we were all just pleased to finish it, period. Fortunately, I got the costume pieces for the one and only toon I really wanted them for in the first place, so I think I can let that one go for a while.
  15. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States I have the Raven from Hermit's Civic Guard thread a while back... And once I remember how to multi-link an attachment, I'll post his sheets. In the meantime, you can get it here: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1455051&postcount=11 Quick picture attached as well.
  16. Re: Jokes Occasionally you have to work blue.
  17. Re: DKM Bismarck Nah, you and I already did the dance over the (IMHO) more important steel quality question a while back. I agree that the decapping layer is suspect on certain angles and degress of impact, but I still contend that it is absolutely impossible for the Bismark to enjoy a 25% superiority in armor protection. EDIT: I do realize that Shadowcat employed a limited defense scheme to allow for GM's to alter thickness in a given locale, I just disagree with his final numbers. But, I also didn't take the time to actually make a battleship, so good on him, it's really nice work.
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Mutant World game (Gamma World/Post Apocalyptic Hero) The party is in a suddenly functional Starport and the Public Address system announces... "Shuttle Three will begin boarding passengers in one hour." Betsy Bovine: "Shuttle?!?" Deere Scotts: "Passengers?!?" Tonto Hadji: "Three?!?" Definitely a "you had to be there" moment, but I almost got my friend to snarf, so it was worth it.
  19. Re: DKM Bismarck Huh... At first blush it looks like it would last more than 20 seconds against the Iowa, which just flat out isn't possible. I think the Def coupled with the Armor is too high personally. The German armor was pretty far from being the best, and it's de-capping tech was based on World War One armor research. Plus, the armor is based on immunity ranges to the ships's own armament, so having it almost 25% higher than your Iowa Commando conversion seems...off.

  22. Re: shadowcats vehicular insanity shop: Iowa Class Commando Carrier They may have something here: http://www.phpbbplanet.com/forum/index.php?mforum=warshipprojects That might cover more, I know they talk about some of the hitches in SS a lot. It is however, a stunningly useful tool. Oh, have you seen Shipbucket? http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k279/shipbucket/
  23. Re: shadowcats vehicular insanity shop: Iowa Class Commando Carrier Yeah. Wolf's shipyard is a keeper. A must for What-iffers. He and the What if Model boards inspired me to go crazy on my own Iowa... http://mywebpages.comcast.net/proditor/models/ships/wics3.jpg The ultimate in frivolous construction.
  24. 6 New sets being released by Blue Moon Manufacturing. Labeled as Spies or Pulp agents, it's a pretty big release int he grand scheme. http://bluemoonmanufacturing.com/ They also have some nice Pulp/Retro Sci-Fi spaceships, but they run a bit of coin.
  25. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Top Gear on BBC America. Wow. I am not a car guy by any means. I drive a 2007 Toyota Corolla because I was able to get a good deal, it was equipped with the basics I consider as necessary for driving (A/C, CD Player, Power package) and it gets really good mileage. This show makes me want to love cars. Almost carnally. The writing is amazing, the camera work is superb. This show has become my favorite show on television. One of my favorite segments was the drag race with a twist. A Eurofighter Typhoon vs. a Bugatti Veyron. The car has to cover a mile out, the plane, a mile UP. Holy. ^&*(. Here's a cut down portion from their website: http://www.topgear.com/content/videos/category/show/2.html Second row, second from the left. I'm not direct linking since you have to choose your connection speed. This show is currently the only one set on my DVR as "Record all". I don't care if it's new, old, whatever, I just can't get enough of it.
