  1. The thing that has bothered me for years now is the assertion that Wolverine can cut through anything with his claws. He just plain old can't. Unless you add some sort of SFX like the claws are edged with monofilament, unbreakable knife or not, he just flat out does not have the strength to cut through, say, an armored car door. I know in comics things like this don't matter, but man it bugs the heck out of me. Also, I'd take Jean's statements about Cyke's blasts in the movie with a grain of salt. The big bad scruff man who makes her hot just insulted her boyfriend after all. Basic psych 101 tells me that if he can deform an I-beam with a full on optic blast, it's suddenly going to be able to blow apart a mountain when she's bragging/getting defensive with Wolverine. All of that aside, I have nothing to add to the ideas of how to make the characters a bit more viable defense wise since everyone else has covered it and done so superbly.
  2. Okay, that kept me laughing for about a good solid 5 minutes. I've always said that sure there are loopholes in Hero, but I can't think of anything THAT egregious... I stand corrected.
  3. D'oh! I knew I should have checked the other forums first. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this as well.
  4. So, you say you want a movie, set in the 30's, sort of H.G. Wells, meets the Iron Giant, meets Crimson Skies, meets Indy Jones? And you want it to star Angelina Jolie, Jude Law and Gwenyth Paltrow? Done. It'll be out this summer... http://www.skycaptain.com/home.html

    V&V

Heh, I wouldn't have my Avatar or nick if it weren't for V&V.
  6. I think the gadget route is a good one to consider, just make sure you have fun with it. Have a "Gravito-inducer ray" the looks like a tesla coil with a handle that plugs into an oversized backpack battery. Have an early Kevlar/Beta cloth composite costume. It'll be slimmer than a full flak jacket, but not as sleek as modern body armor. Find Weakness: ABSOLUTELY!! "I knew if I just hit him at the joint on that armor the klankenhausen mechanism would fail!" or... "That my friend, is your solar plexus. By hitting it at a 30 degree angle with the proper amount of force...well, once you are done vomiting, we'll discuss it."
  7. Wanted: Operating manual for an "Alien super-suit", or at least a facsimile of the pages that tell me how to shut off the "Bitching Betty" voice. Will pay premium price to get a good night's sleep.
  8. My girlfriend mentioned... She-Wolf of London John Jay York (In the series "Werewolf" on Fox IIRC?)
  9. Thanks for the advice guys. I'd managed to completely forget about the blunt trauma angle, and to think, I just saw Big trouble in little china recently. (If that seems confusing, remember the scene of wind "torturing" Jack with a rubber ball). I like the -1/4 penalty on the Size/shape angle affecting the to hit...I may try and come up with a -0 limit of something relating to damage dealt along the lines of the limit I've seen on some broadly defined HKA/RKA's of "Must do appropriate damage like a real weapon", but obviously tweaked to relate to the whole winging a ball bearing at someone at Mach 2 angle.
  10. I dithered a while on whether this was a Hero System question or a Champs one, but settled on Champs because of the USPD. I want to have a guy that throws things at people and uses Kinetic control to massively up the speed and thus damage potential of said objects. (Very similar to Sabre's Ball bearings from the Blood and Dr. McQuark for the old timers). So...my thought was basically thus: 2d6 RKA, 0 END (+1/2), OIF (Objects of opportunity, -1/2) Relatively simple and straightforward, the main explanation of the power is in the effect. Am I missing something? Does anyone else think I should detail this more to link in with whether or not the item flows easily through the air, should there be a minimum mass? Should it be clarified that a playing card will only do a 1d6 RKA, while a ball bearing might be more like a bullet and do 1.5d6? Any help appreciated.
  11. I ended up with Iron Fist, which is strange since I picked Super strength.
  12. JSA all the way. I also think a few of the newer members get short shift when these comparisons occur. Also, the arguable deal-breaking character and member of like every JSA, the Flash, didn't get mentioned. He alone would mess up scores of folk. Marvel just isn't used to guys that fast. So...making a small substitution in Hunter1's team-ups... Hawkeye vs. The Flash...man, that's not even close. Sure, clint can take out Speed Demon, but this is just a whole new level of hurt. Whish then leaves Sentinel or Flash on Black Panther with the other free to assist someone else. At that point, to me at least, it;s pretty darn academic. As an aside, I don't think the "common" Thor could take Captain Marvel, but that's a whole other can of worms.
  13. Scott Destroyer, Thank you very much. Glad to see another fan of Captain Atom and the Squad. Major Victory in on hold while I try to finish another mod for a friend, Patriot from Rising Stars. Once he's done, I can use the tiny little star decals and finish them both off at once. Yes, I'm cheating the stars, but those are hard to make right! As to what's next, well, I just found good base figs for Nighthawk and Ironclad so we'll see what I can whip up once I get the figs. After I do the core 6 and possibly a smattering of guys for them to fight, I might take a jaunt to the Microverse since Acroyear has been whispering in my ear that he needs to be made.
  14. Re: Re: Hey Mister Long? Thanks, I admittedly was cackling like a maniac as I was putting that puppy together. I still haven't decided whether or not to have someone bailing out of it to make it more of a set piece. Assuming I can get the right base figs, I'll definitely post the finished results.
  15. Hmmm....that list gives me some ideas. I'll putter around a bit more and see what I can whip up. Sidenote: Superfigs added like 12 new figs in last month. I think I found like 8 PC's amongst the new stuff.
  16. I was googling yesterday in a search for distributors of Superfigs and saw the news on hero from July of last year. You mentioned that you were going to ask the Superfigs folk to paint up a few iconic Champs folk in mini form. If that's in limbo, I was wondering if you still wanted some minis? I have a Grond already, though no final pics. You can see him in the "In Progress" stage at: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/proditor/workbench.htm If you are still looking for some Champs minis, I'd be honored to whip a few conversions out for you and the guys at Hero. I figure I owe you guys for making such an awesome game and all.
  17. Ayup, well at least my Grond is almost done.
  18. Good question. The answer might save me hours of cutting and sculpting.
  19. I just read the Hero policies on internet usage and I wanted to applaud Hero's stance. It is a very nice balance between protecting the money-maker and letting the fans talk about and share thier favorite hero home brews. I'm mentioning this because Wizkids just posted their internet fan site rules and they are a far far cry from the ones here that support and nurture the fan base. It seems that you guys always manage to do the right thing. (Unabashed fan boy moment) God I love Hero!!!
  20. I think after seeing "The Terror Beyond" tonight we might need to make some adjustments to Hawkgirl. Sweet monkey Jesus she was unstoppable... Plus, in addition to cop skills we can apparently add a small amount of mystic Thangarian hoodoo. Also, the GL trial had one other thing I just noticed today. Hawkgirl gets blasted by a Manhunter, goes through a window (no big deal) and then a WALL and hops back up GROWLING! That is one very tough Thangarian.
  21. I rewrote Ebonfire at one point recently for a NYC based game. The one thing that amused me for days (and proves that I need to get out more and not watch movies made by Berry Gordy) was his reputation to his neighborhood. Medium sized group, 8- It was called "Catches bullets with his teeth?" It amused me far more than it ever should have.
  22. I like the idea of giving her good, slightly superhuman STR, say 30 or so, and a bunch of martial arts. She throws the GL's around for a while without the use of the Honkin' big mace after all. And I might be mis-remembering, but it seems to me that when she does get hit while flying, it's usually one out of several attacks directed at her, not she just gets clipped by a lone shot. At least as a generalization. The place where she usually does not do as well in combat is when she's grounded. Her fight against Amazo springs to mind.
  23. Wow, that may be one of the best ideas (The whole thing) I've read about how to deal with the situation. You're right, my denigration of their favorite is not likely to win converts. I guess I just let it get to me too much. I've playtested for Mongoose and been a constant DM in TT and MUXing since 3.0 came out, and I'm just so burned on the system and it's flaws that I get vitrolic over it at times. I have, and will continue, to take your advice to heart though. I actually put it into play a little earlier today when a friend called to complain about something in 3.5. We talked about the mechanic for a while, and when I was saying "Yeah, I guess we could kludge a fix by doing X" I then paused a long moment and he said "What?" My response was something along the lines of "Hmmm, that's not an issue with Hero." By the end of the conversation, he asked when I'm going to run either Champions or Fantasy Hero. Sidebar: I know that other folk are entitled to their opinion, but by that very definition, I'm entitled to mine as well.
  24. Hawkgirl's Ego and the Doctor Destiny Arc: Honestly, I know it's just a convention of the developing story, but I'd argue with her having a higher ego then Flash or Supes. She holds out the "longest" relative to the what the others went through. She's the last rescued, and the others had more or less given up until helped by either MM or MM and whoever he had already rescued. The sole exception is of course GL who just starts to open a can right away after he realizes it's mostly a battle of wills. I also agree on the mace granting some form of defense thing, she uses it to block power blasts, bullets, a lot of stuff actually. And I know her defenses might not be stellar, but she did get rammed by a ME-109 (Well the wing anyway) and seemed at most mildly stunned. She was getting up to smack the pilot while he was going for his pistol. Sidenote: Man, that pilot must have ice water for blood. I don't think many folk would sneer and reach for a pistol after ramming the winged chick with your PLANE didn't work... She does tend to dodge more than block though, the blocking comes in when she is on terminal approach and ready to unleash a Mace-whoppin' to someone. If she isn't charging, I usually remember her just moving out of the way. Skills...Hmmm. The recent GL episode with Despero would seem to imply two things. Military/Police training (Which we mostly knew already) and some teaching experience, like a drill sergeant. A decently high PRE also seems to be a must.
  25. I'll explain, though my guess is some folk know what I'm talking about already. What do you do when you get the guy who says "Well, d20 is superior because it can do anything! Look at all these massively expensive books I can buy to run what I want!" And you say, "Yeah, but with Hero, I spend less money, get more and better rules and I can do anything I can think of with minimal work. Once you know the rules, Hero can do literally anything. No need to make new feats or skills or classes. Just figure out some basics and go." To which you get a sniff and a derisive sneer. How do you "convert" those who are so stuck on WoTC that they won't even look at anything else? If this were about 6 years ago, I'd be asking how you do the same with White Wolf players, but that's another rant.
