  1. Re: Random powers (falling, barriers) Don't have my book handy...but would 1" Teleport wiht NRV really do it? It seems awfully cheap. There is no upper limit on the velocity NRV can negate? Course, it doesn't really have much of a combat effect does it?

  4. Re: Random powers (falling, barriers) Can't use TK on yourself. It would have to be Flight.
  5. Re: Force Field Limitation I'm thinking -1. That is a pretty large limitation.
  6. Re: "How to" Transform Question.
  7. Re: "How to" Transform Question. There is a spell in either FH, FHG or FHG2 that does this. I looked for a bit, but couldn't find it. I'm thinking its in one of the grimoires. I'll keep looking, but if memory serves...its a cosmetic transform.
  8. Re: Goodbye Washington DC Our dollar (the US one), has no "real" value. Back in the day, a dollar's value was backed by gold or silver. A dollar was worth "x" amount of a precious metal. I don't recall who offhand...but it was around Hoover, I believe, that our dollar became a non-precious metal currency. The dollar now has value because people have faith that the dollar has value. Sounds backwards, neh? All the world financial markets are impacted by variances in a few key currencies (the dollar, the yen and to a lesser extent the euro...to name a few). If DC was nuked, the dollar would become utterly worthless overnight. Remember, the dollar only has value because people have faith in the US government backing it with a promise of its value. The financial markets in Britain, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany would probably not even open (or would immediately close). There would be a rush against the dollar. Eventually, those markets would have to open...and the dollar would still be worthless. All those markets would take a hit that would make the Great Depression look like a mild case of indigestion. Which would further drive down the value of dollar. We saw the bare tip of this after 9/11. We are STILL feelings this...how many years later? Bill Gates could spend most of his entire fortune and might be able to get a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk (ok, Im exaggerating a bit). With the differing time zones for other markets...all this could even happen before we could do anything about it. We would just have to sit back and watch CNN during the middle of the night and watch our life savings and fortunes vanish. Now tack that onto whatever paranoia might be going on due to the attack itself.
  9. Re: HA and AVLD... Actually, I'm kind of with Derek on this one. Lungs have a definite max volume. At some point the lungs are full and are getting no oxygen (10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound sack). At some point, a case could be made for exploding the lungs...but thats another story. Once you have squeezed someone to the point that they can no longer inhale...that is the most you can do. Further squeezing does not prevent them from getting any oxygen...it just crushes ribs etc. In both these two cases, it is the lack of oxygen that is doing the damage. That damage would be the same as if you were underwater. Creatures with venom typically only inject a specific amount of venom, one usually tailored to thier preferred prey. Once the skin is broken the venom is injected. Digging your fangs in deeper doesn't inject more venom...it may do more damage (a higher BODY total on the RKA portion of the bite) but not inject more poison. Even then, location is more important than depth of the bite. Hit an artery, things may move a little faster. Hit an area of low blood flow and maybe it takes a little longer...but even in those cases the difference might be a phase or two.
  10. Re: Random powers (falling, barriers) I'd say just get 10" Flight (No Conscious Control, Trigger, Only to Prevent Damage from Impacts against Surfaces). Someone throws you against a wall with 10" of velocity, you take no damage...but still hit the wall.
  11. Re: HA and AVLD... First of all, I said "it won't matter so much." As in, its utility will be reduced. Which, in general, it will be. Some people won't need the FAQ (in its current incarnation) at all since they have purchased 5eR. Secondly, if you want to pick nits, 5eR is $50 not $30.
  12. Re: HA and AVLD... Well, with 5eR on the horizon it won't matter so much for much longer. But I would like to see the FAQ cross-referenced. There is a lot of times when you have to look in multiple places to find what you are looking for (do you look in Hardened, Damage Resistance, Armour, Costs END). At what point do you decide its not in there? I think that is the major reason so many of Steve's responses on the Rules Forum are "its in the FAQ." I'm not sure how I would like to see the FAQ organised, but I think it could be greatly imrpoved to have more utility.
  13. Re: Ranged OK for HKA, not for HA Maybe I'm just missing something. WHY does 60 AP of HA have to be equal to 60 AP of HKA? If that were the case, get rid of one of them! Hero is full of similar powers with differing effects: 30 AP of PD = 30 PD, 0 END 30 AP of Armour = 20 rPD, 0 END 30 AP of FF = 30 rPD, 3 END Campaign setting aside (Policeman: "Hey you! Yes, you with the big bloody sword...c'mere!") HA, EB, STR and HKA all do different things. Their costs are rougly equal, but there is something unique about each one that makes it different from the rest. 15 RP = +5 HA - adds to STR damage, but damage only 15 RP = +15 STR - gives you other things (leaping, lifting and lithmatic) including +3d6 HA 15 RP = 3d6 EB - gives you range (and the possibility of spreading) 15 RP = 1d6 HKA - can dish out some real juicy damage (and can be thrown) I have yet to hear any kind of argument that makes me think the system is broken. All attack powers are roughly analogous (sp?). They cost about the same and do about the same kind of damage. Is there some difference in cost vs damage? Yes, as there should be. If you are still concerned that the various attacks are not equal...then get rid of them. Equalise everything. Of course, then we get down to the old saw about Hero only needs 4 powers (EB, Transform, FF and Running).
  14. Re: Goodbye Washington DC I think any kind of scenario like this would really have to come down to John Q Public. Doesn't matter if the 14th UnderSecretary of Agriculture grabs (I shouldn't say grab...um...takes his place as leader under the...25th Amendment? Help me out here guys) power. Consider the general public feelings during the Cuban Missle Crisis, the Cold War, 9/11 and Y2K. Now multiply that by about 1000. Noone is going to work, they are going to gather around their families. You can expect widescale looting (people are expecting the end and are going to loot food and guns not necessarily PlayStations). Many people are going to head into the hills. Martial law is a given (similar to a Martial Strike but with more PRE). We are not talking about your average, run-of-the-mill attack here. Even the thought of a local nuclear strike scares the bajesus out of people. Yes, I do believe that some form of government would remain, but I don't think it would greatly resemble what we have now. Who cares about Fish and Game when someone just dropped a nuke? Why should I pay taxes if the government is not going to protect me and is not going to be able to provide me with services? Many, many people would assume this is the beginning of the end and take steps to ensure their survival (even at the expense of others). All this would probably change after 6 months or so, as people realise it was only a one time thing...but how much damage to the government and society would have been done in those 6 months?
  15. Re: A very unusual character What about: - A bunch of levels only for use with MultiPower Attacks? - Some extra CON (Only to avoid being Stunned), defined as spreading the OW across both heads? - Some extra STUN (Only to remain above 0 STUN), definsed as one head keeps going (include some kind of PhysLim or SE that would cause 1/2 moves etc since the other half is unconscious)
  16. Re: A newb with a problem Actually, FH just arrived. I was very impressed with its portability for your standard D&Dite. With the package deals that are in there you can choose a race, class, subclass, culture etc. About the only thing you would actually need to spend some time on is Characteristics. I imagine it would be cake to move someone over (eg show them to the light) from D&D to FH. For your firt character though, read through the first section on character creation and then build yourself a brick. Give him lots of STR and some DEF and then smack another brick around in a pickup game. Then give each brick 30pts or so and let them buy some martial arts. Then smack the snot out of each other again. After a couple of Brick vs Brick battles you're probabably ready to sit down and attempt an original character.
  17. Re: Breaking a Mental Defense Force Wall Oh. Now that's a point I hadn't considered. It's not like there is a Killing EGO Attack. Well...actually...RKA BOECV. Talk about expensive though. I would allow a -1/2 for no resistant defence. That could get hairy though if it was a multi DEF FW. Lots of good stuff!!
  18. Re: MultiMagic in FH Hmmm. I hadn't considered that. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking that Magic, in and of itself, is one SFX. A Drain, etc would take a lim, lets call is -1/2 for argument's sake, for Rune Magic only. I think I'm more inclined to call Magic the major qualifier and each variety/SFX of magic (eg Rune, Necromancy) to be a subgroup. That would make x2 STUN from Rune Magic Vulnerability worth less than if it was just vs Magic. Its a good thing you mentioned it though, just thinking about it now I could see certain mobs (angels or devils) taking more damage from certain types of magic. Keep the ideas coming!! The more and more I think about it, it seems that Magic is the single most important thing to quantify in a FH campaign. Everything else is pretty much stock out of the book. While I'm thinking of it. How has everyone created their world maps? I have no idea where to start, and that is the next thing I would like to tackle.
  19. Re: Limit to Selling Strength? (or any attribute) Depending on SFX, he may be too weak to fly too. As a GM, I would have problems with any PC selling a stat below 5. At 5 and below the character becomes too ineffective (or too...oh, whats the word...too weakness having) to be a productive member of a team. Someone with an INT of 5 or less is going to have problems comprehending directions or situations (as well as having a PER so low that they wouldn't notice their feet). etc.
  20. Re: Limit to Selling Strength? (or any attribute) Consider, too. Just because someone is Desol does not mean they don't have mass or weight. Even if he sells his STR back to 0...I would have to look up the chart but it's possible he wouldn't be able to move.
