It's overcast, a bit dreary, cool, and the air's damp. In other words, a classic October day in Missouri that feels as if rain's just around the corner. October-November is my favorite time of year (the colors, the scent of woodsmoke in the air, open windows and fresh air inside the dwelling, it's cool, etc.) but days like this usually have my joints in more of an uproar than usual.

Occassionally, though, for some unknown reason, a day like today will come along that doesn't make my joints hurt worse than usual. Today was one such day.

So I went out and took a stroll. About 40 minutes in all...I just got back. Just a little bit around the neighborhood. I'm sweaty, now, despite the rambling nature of my walk (being very overweight will do that for ya) but I feel pretty good nevertheless.

    Let's hear it for Autumn!

Today is my birthday. I am listening to an old Ace Frehley song on my computer and it reminds me of a happy thing.
I have laughably "bad" taste in music. Believe me.
When I turned 19 I had been to exactly zero concerts in my life time. I set out to change that. I saw Quiet Riot, Joe Satriani, Chicago, and Styx in the next year and a half. Around then I decided I wanted to see my favorite artists in concert before I shuffled off this mortal coil and they were (at that time) Styx (check), Ace Frehley, and Billy Squier. (Yeah, I know, bad taste in music, so what?) So, the following year, Ace did a show in Eugene, OR (more specifically neighboring Springfield) and I got to go. I even got a guitar pick thrown to me. It was cool. I saw Quiet Riot a second time. Then I saw Styx and Kansas in Portland. I saw Styx (my favorite band) again a few years later with a different line up. However, Billy Squier had pretty much fallen our of the picture. He'd released maybe five albums since his In the Dark salad days and I'd never even seen news of a tour. Then, in 2000, he toured with Styx and Bad Company for the 20th anniversary of In the Dark. The wife bought tickets for the two of us and my best friend who, at that time, was living in Seattle. The show was at the Gorge in George, Washington. It was...FRICKIN' STUPENDOUS! I screamed, I sang, I danced, I got a contact high from all the weed being smoked. It was by far the coolest venue for a concert ever and there were people everywhere! I bought three tee shirts, CD's ...and completed my list. I still rank it up there as the single coolest gift I have ever recieved from anyone.
It deserves to be here. Happy Happy.

So if L. Marcus gets so depressed he doesn't even want to move, and someone tries to get a rise out of him by stomping on his toes, and one of us gentler sorts (like zornwil) advises against that, is he saying, "Don't you step on our blue Swede's shoes"?

Everyone at school is scared of me cuz I'm so hyper all the time! Like today at lunch I was saying chicken really fast, then I'd say, "Cubes that look round." And also, I was muttering, "He scares the bejeses outta me," under my breath. Yay!!!

Everyone above me has made far better cases than I could have, both for and against the construct. And as mentioned, it's ultimately up to you to allow it.

Personally, I'd go with the suggestions to break it up into multiple powers, justified simply by the rule that says you can't use power A to simulate power B; that's what power B is for.

Of course, I also have to wiegh in heavily in favor of the 'smack him with the rule book' suggestion as well. Not because the construct itself is horrifying (though I'd prefer it done with existing abilities where such are relevant) but because of what I think the intentions are (cheesiness rarely seen outside of pressurized cans).

Or you could teach him an object lesson about trying to munchkin around your rules:

"Okay, I try to Detect Abilities."
    -Roll Perception-
"Okay, I made it by five."
    -Yes, he has abilities.-
    "Wha--? Oh, yeah. Discriminatory"
    -okay, he has several abilities-
    "Hunh? Fine. Analyze."
    -He has several _good_ abilities-

    and on in that vien.

But wait till he spends the points. The lesson sticks better that way .

Seriously, if you think he's trying to short-shift he way to a cheesy construct, nip it now. It's harder to bring them back to sway once they know you can be convinced to cave in.

Josh hadn't touched the dishes ALL weekend, and when I went to tackle them (they'd piled up . . . AGAIN), I cut my finger on a very sharp knife HE'd put in there! He offered to get me a band-aid, but those never stay on when you're elbow deep in dishwater.

It's not like it's anything more than a vague inconvenience, but the principle of the thing has me fuming.

And I HAD been planning on seducing him before he went to work tonight. Hmph.

Who the freaking freaker fug is that "singer" doing that horrible version of "High and Dry"? I've heard him twice now and bodily harm isn't good enough for him, though it'd be fun. He's terrible, I can't believe a record company put that out.

It seems somehow fitting that this post follows a Mightybec one.
So how did your Tribble greet the New Year ? How about with a virus that has shut down hospital wards ?
The symptoms are vomiting and diahorrea, the urge sometimes being for both at once. Spent most of Saturday dehibilated lying flat out on the floor. I only had breakfast for food. Didn't feel hungry and didn't really want to tempt fate. The vomiting seems to have stopped but the diahorrea just keeps on coming.
The up side is that I have seen the Extended Version of Return of the King.

In the Compliment, Envy, and You Don't Know Me threads, I've been noticing a lot of positive feedback on my beard. Is it really that hard to grow one? If so, I feel bad, because I only let myself grow the fool thing through pure laziness.

I hated going to weddings. All the grandmas would poke me saying "You're next". They stopped that when I started doing it to them at funerals.

Well, as of 220 this afternoon. The Missus and I became Homeowners. Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. I might be off boards for a while as moving requires me to box up this computer I am typing on.

    See you all next year!
