  1. Call me full of nostalgia, but I miss most of the characters omitted, in one way or another. I guess that, for the most part, I don't miss CLOWN or the Fox of Crime (or the Ruler of Crime, for that matter--the guy from the International File who actually dressed like a ruler). But I enjoyed having a lot of the other characters around, even if I didn't use them. As to a couple of the points on this thread: I agree that the Canadian characters (Champions of the North) were underpowered, but I thought they were otherwise great in terms of flavor, artwork, variety, and concept. I really liked the "three-team" concept and wish Steve hadn't written them out of continuity. European Enemies had a lot of flaws, but it also had a lot of useful, fun characters, as well as some great artwork. It's gotten a bad rap. Alien Enemies was also pretty cool. I wasn't wild about every single character, but I liked many of them. I *really* liked Los Asesinos, and would like to see them again. I don't miss Poinsettia.
  2. Re: Demon ideas You know, disagreeing with people is one thing. Saying to ignore them is rude and unnecessary.
  3. Sorry. I'm not sure how else to tell you to get there. You probably have to be a member of Yahoo Groups. Anyway, it was more like a profile piece about the city with its main protectors missing (the Justice Foundation had disappeared), which incorporated aspects of both the San Angelo universe and the Champions Universe (4th Edition, since this was a few years ago). At any rate, the campaign's been running pretty successfully for nearly four years now.
  4. It's pretty compatible. You mostly have to decide how to integrate SA-specific groups with CU-specific groups (like how does PART interact with PRIMUS). The main point of incompatibility I found is that the San Angelo universe mostly avoids dealing with aliens and the Champions Universe uses them quite a bit. (Atlantis is a similar point of difference.) You just have to decide which aspects of which universe you want to use. I came up with an article (posted on the San Angelo Yahoo Groups board) launching my own SA/CU campaign a few years back. I tried unsuccessfully to post a direct link to it, but you can go to the group site, click Files, and then select Where's the Justice. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SACoH/
  5. Re: Re: Re: What Do You Want To See?: DEMON Your nickel's in the mail.
  6. Re: What Do You Want To See?: DEMON I just started reading through this thread. This might have been addressed later, but I wanted to weigh in on it. I'm disappointed at this decision. Not because I want DEMON to be high-tech gurus, but because I always liked the conceit that people thought DEMON was a typical villain agency with Satanic trappings. The armored DEMON agents were always fun fodder to use in battles. They don't necessarily have to be manufactured by DEMON, after all--that's what ARGENT is there for. Besides, who's to say that magic has to be low tech? I'd love to see DEMON Morbanes with diabolically powered laptops, cursed mortar shells, etc. A pedestrian "cult" group is going to get pretty boring.
  7. Four Aces Nice work (as always) on these, Storn. You know, the style of these reminds me a little bit of Gene Colan's stellar work on the old Night Force series. Are you familiar with that at all?
  8. Great stuff, Blue. I like all of them, but particularly this guy. You're really showing a lot of progress.
  9. Photos in San Angelo Wow, do I ever hate that idea. San Angelo is a great, classic world with comic book ties. Nothing personal, but while your Photoshopped images are interesting to look at and a great experiment, they're definitely not right for San Angelo. I'm even worried about the idea of too much realistic art. I mean, if you get an Alex Ross, fine. But even for all his realism, he manages to keep a sense of the majesty and "otherness" of the comic book world. In general, superhero costumes put on real people in photos or photo-like art look awkward. Like it or not, there's a good reason why movies tend to "naturalize" comic character costumes; real people look ridiculous in them. The whole point of San Angelo isn't to be a "real" or "living" world. It's to be a setting where superheroics seem plausible, an organic part of the milieu. It's to give superheroes a fun backdrop in which to exist, making it clear in the players' imaginations. "Living," yes. But "real"? Not a chance. And, as someone pointed out earlier, mixing drastically different art styles in a publication is just asking for trouble. It's okay for a cross-genre piece (the 5th edition rules work well in that respect), but, especially for a setting book, you need to make sure the images "play well" together.
  10. Hey, Storn. I love Victrix. I liked the original image, too, but this one's even better. It's neat to see an update of an old favorite. You mentioned Demonstar, but I couldn't find the image you refer to. Can you point us to the message or post the image again?
  11. ninja/shadow stuff Seems like this is getting pretty off-topic for this thread. Can we stick to Storn, please?
  12. Incredible posts, Solomon! Great, great job! I hope to see a lot more from you!
  13. VERY sharp, Mangog. Great stuff.
  14. Yes, and so were Mako, Man of War, Barnacle, and Porpoise. (Did I miss any Aquans?) Any chance we could see Anemone, a colored Barnacle, and Nereid?
  15. Re: Woah! Thanks, Mags. I use Adobe PhotoShop. Mostly I just have to make the right selections and then tint the colors the way I want. I'm not really very artistic, but these were fun. I might post a few later of older Champions pics that I colored in and scanned. I have fun looking at this thread, downloading images, and trying to come up with ways to use them in my campaign, so I thought I'd "give a little back."
  16. Anubis I thought maybe I'd post a few images from Hero that I colored. Most credit should, of course, go to the original artists. I chose these because I liked the images a lot also. There's a lot of talent in the Hero art pool these days.
  17. If a character has a Contact who is also a DNPC, does that character still pay for the "useful noncombat skills" modifier in the DNPC Disadvantage? My player argues (with some justification) that since he's paying a number of points for this NPC's usefulness as a Contact, he shouldn't have to "pay for" that usefulness again by having the DNPC Disadvantage be worth fewer points.
  18. Re: character images They look great! Lots of energy.
  19. Cool, Mangog. Are you going to do anymore Aquans? I'd love to see color images of them.
  20. Orca looks great. Don't mess with him. I can't wait to see him colored with a little additional detail. What you have there is really cool.
