  1. Re: Tornado Building Any bigger than that, and my PCs will go splat! This size will do nicely for my needs and suit the abilitities of the character summoning it. Maybe I'll try a bigger one someday as a plot device...
  2. Re: Tornado Building Well, I finally built the tornado a few weeks back. I ended up going with a self-aware one after all, though the tornado is, to all appearances, natural. I've already submitted the character sheet, so it's probably too late for feedback, but I thought I'd share what I came up with in case it proved useful to anyone else: Tornado Creature Player: Val Char Cost 0/75 STR -10 10 DEX 0 23 CON 26 10/25 BODY 0 8 INT -2 8 EGO -4 35 PRE 25 6 COM -2 20 PD 20 17 ED 12 3 SPD 10 15 REC 20 0 END -23 42/57 STUN 20 6" RUN02" SWIM00"/15" LEAP0Characteristics Cost: 92 Cost Power END 30 Tornado Form: Elemental Control, 60-point powers 82 1) Huge Tornado: Growth (+75 STR, +15 BODY, +15 STUN, -15" KB, 3.27E6 kg, -10 DCV, +10 PER Rolls to perceive character, 63 m tall, 32 m wide), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (112 Active Points) 0 17 2) Made of Wind I: Physical Damage Reduction, Resistant, 75% (60 Active Points); Not vs. Air, Vacuum, or Area of Effect Attacks (-3/4) 0 17 3) Made of Wind II: Energy Damage Reduction, Resistant, 75% (60 Active Points); Not vs. Air, Vacuum, or Area of Effect Attacks (-3/4) 0 32 4) Moves through the Air: Flight 13", x4 Noncombat, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2) (62 Active Points) 0 20 5) Pulling/Pushing Wind: Telekinesis (20 STR), Affects Porous, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (60 Active Points); Only to Move Objects Toward or Away from Itself (-1/2) 0 44 6) Tireless and Huge: 75 STR: Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) for up to 75 Active Points, Area Of Effect (up to 8" Radius; +1) (74 Active Points) 0 32 Force of Nature: Life Support (Eating Character does not eat; Immunity All terrestrial diseases and biowarfare agents; Immunity All terrestrial poisons and chemical warfare agents; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Sleeping Character does not sleep) 0 18 Mind of the Storm: Mental Defense (20 points total) 0 5 Tendrils of Air: Extra Limbs (100) 0 -14 True Flyer: Running -6" and Swimming -2" 0 Powers Cost: 283 Total Character Cost: 375 Val Disadvantages 25 Distinctive Features: Huge Tornado (Not Concealable; Extreme Reaction; Detectable By Commonly-Used Senses) 35 Enraged: Berserk When Summoned (Uncommon), go 14-, recover 8- 15 Physical Limitation: Animal Intelligence (All the Time, Slightly Impairing) 15 Physical Limitation: Body of Air (All the Time, Slightly Impairing) 10 Physical Limitation: Limited Manipulation (Infrequently, Greatly Impairing) 10 Psychological Limitation: Disdain for Humans (Common, Moderate) 20 Psychological Limitation: Glories in Destruction (Common, Total) 25 Social Limitation: Not Considered a Sentient Entity (Very Frequently, Severe) 10 Vulnerability: 2 x BODY Air and Wind Attacks (Uncommon) 10 Vulnerability: 2 x STUN Air and Wind Attacks (Uncommon) Disadvantage Points: 175 Base Points: 200 Experience Required: 0 Total Experience Available: 0 Experience Unspent: 0
  3. Re: The "Other" art thread Well, I'm no pilot. But he's been on several airplane trips with us, so I guess that's part of where he got the idea.
  4. Re: The "Other" art thread Ha! I guess it was, at that. It was something my son said in the car a few weeks back--it kind of blew me away at the time.
  5. Re: The "Other" art thread Neat!
  6. Re: The Millenium 8 Digital Hero #13. Most of them are pretty cool, too.
  7. Re: GGU NPCs For Review Yeah, that should help clear things up. I'll try to keep away from blue messages here in the future.
  8. Re: GGU NPCs For Review I think that this was covered above. It does occur to me that she definitely could do with a pair of Distinctive Features Disadvantages--the smell one from the Pheremones (this would only be distinctive to a select group) that was mentioned above, plus I think she'd be a good candidate for Distinctive Features: Unearthly Beauty.
  9. Re: Non-standard mythologies I've seen Jewish lore used in comics (Ragman, various Golem characters). There was once a long African mythology storyline in Firestorm of all places (several years back) that I thought was pretty darn interesting. And I've seen Native American lore and Aztec lore a few times (Coyote, Aztec Ace, and a few others). Seems like Hawaiian lore's popped up here and there (in Superboy, for example). That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but world mythology is certainly a great resource for comics stories and gaming.
  10. Re: GGU NPCs For Review At first reading, Cheesecake and Knockout seem just fine (although Cheesecake's power level seems pretty high). I've got no worries. Knockout doesn't seem very vanilla to me for the kind of role she will probably play in a campaign. Were she a PC, she'd probably need to be more well-rounded. But as an NPC member of a team, she's probably just fine. [Edit: Color change]
  11. Re: GGU NPCs For Review I guess that what I'm missing here is a sense of the character's motivation. What has made him a member of Tarot? Why doesn't he question the Emperor? What about him earns him the loyalty he seems to receive. I get why Tarot might want him, but I don't get much about the core of his being. As a GM, I'd have difficulty running him, not knowing what he wants or needs. [Edit: Color change]
  12. Re: Supervillain Images Hey, what happened to this image?
  13. Re: Supervillain Images Nope! But man, if he survives Majestic, I might just have to find a way to GM him in the campaign I'm running, somewhere down the pike. Or at least steal him for my face-to-face campaign. He looks cool and spooky.
  14. Re: Supervillain Images Wow and wow! This one's awesome! Very professional-looking. I really love this. The colors pop, the fur looks terrific, etc. I'd hate to run into this guy in a dark alley.
  15. Re: I need a Super Hero Name for TinkerBelle.... We've actually got a Tinker Belle type character in a PBEM campaign I GM. She goes by Firefly. http://www.globalguardians.com/campaigns/herocity.php Another submisssion for the same type of character was named Will o' Wisp.
  16. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. That's cool. I was just anxious--as always--to see more Storn Cook goodness.
  17. Re: Fantasy Art Thread Thanks. I daresay you're right. Well, at least I bumped the thread along...
  18. Re: Fantasy Art Thread Here's an image I cobbled together from several sources for a Fading Suns campaign I'm in (now converting to the HERO System).
  19. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read?
  20. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.
  21. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read? The fact that Cypher wasn't a combat monster (or combat anything, really) was the whole point of the character. He was the "everyman" in the New Mutants--a point-of-view character for the readers to identify with. He was there to ground the team, not to be "powerful." Obviously, some people (including Louise Simonson, the writer who killed him off) didn't get that.
  22. Re: Plot/Campaign idea for Joseph Otanga
  23. Re: Plot/Campaign idea for Joseph Otanga I also see Otanga as a sort of Idi Amin. I used him recently for an adventure, although as it turned out, he was always offscreen. One thing that worked fairly well for me was the creation of a "Lugendu Freedom Organization"--a rebel organization oppsed to Otanga. In a lot of ways, though, it was as ruthless as he was. To tie Otanga into my own (San Angelo-based) campaign, I created a non-superpowered brother of Joseph--Matthew Otanga. An admired pro football player (yeah, that aspect seems kind of silly to me in retrospect, but that's what I did), he found out that Joseph Otanga wanted to increase his own power through a ritual that would involve sacrificing either Matthew or their younger brother Lucas (who lived in Lugendu in Otanga's presidential compound). It got a bit involved after that. The cowardly Matthew, not wanting his brother to die, but not willing to die himself, either, hired a witch doctor to try to mutate the DNA of a local boy (a protege of his) to make him a close enough match to be sacrificed in Matthew's place. That's where the heroes stumbled in and learned the plot. They reluctantly set out to protect Matthew and restore the local kid. One of the heroes, rather foolishly, told the Lugendu Freedom Organization (LFO) all about the plot. Terrified that it might succeed and make Otanga even more powerful to deal with, the ruthless LFO decided to head it off by assassinating young Lucas and trying to do the same to Matthew. Otanga had been planning a "state visit" to the United States (in reality intending to pick up Matthew for the sacrifice), but the heroes exposed at least some of his wrongdoings and got it cancelled. The window for the sacrifice passed, but the whole adventure ruined Matthew Otanga's reputation and left the heroes wanting to take Joseph Otanga down. I'd been looking forward to seeing his 5th Edition writeup, but it looks like I'll have to wait a while longer...
