  1. Re: WWYCD:The Facts of Life Warp: "Nope, can't have him. Now get off my planet." Spectrum: "Just talked to the President and he's agreed to grant political asylum to the boy. Now as trespassers on American soil I suggest you depart. Immediately!" Mystic: "Sorry, but the boy has chosen his own destiny. And I warn you, should you be tempted take him back and absorb him against his will, I have placed a curse on him that will be inflicted on anyone who attempts to devour his mind or soul. Trust me, you would not wish to suffer it."
  2. Re: The Incredibles -- WITH SPOILERS Saw the movie yesterday afternoon and I have to agree with everyone that it was one of the best superhero movies ever. Everyone raise your hand who idly thought about trying to by Edna Mode as a costume supplying Contact for your Champions character after watching. *raises hand*
  3. Re: Good "Four of a Kind"'s... Well, how about stealing from The Mystic Worlds and have them be empowered by the Four Zoas? Art, Nature, Order, and Chaos. Or have them tap the powers of the Quanterion: The Land of Legends, The Netherworlds, Elysium, and Babylon. Since they're all good guys you can have the one tapping the Netherworld being empowered by Eastern demons who aren't themselves evil but punish evil doers as part of their duty.
  4. Re: Scoffing at Magic: What do people think in your game world? Well, one way to seperate the two is that magic seems to have a subjective and moral element which other forms of power don't have. You always here about things like necromancy as being black magic or part of the dark arts, whereas things like mutant powers or advanced technology have no moral implications other than what the user supplies.
  5. Re: Scoffing at Magic: What do people think in your game world? Would an average person on the street be able to tell the difference when seeing the two in action, or could he easily mistake the employment of magic as just a psi guy using his powers while affecting a certain style?
  6. Re: Scoffing at Magic: What do people think in your game world? But the thing is in the CU there are actual "scientific" explanations available that could easily explain away things that look like magic, such as psychic powers or advanced technology. Basically, skeptics have more ammunition to dismiss away magic with. I'm not saying that the CU'ers would be more prone to dismiss the supernatural. But for those who would, there exists readily available explanations that allow one to do so. And it would be hard to tell the genuinely supernatural from just the perfectly natural paranormal.
  7. Re: Scoffing at Magic: What do people think in your game world? Perhaps it's the existence of people that fly, teleport, read minds, and do other "impossible" things that actually make it easier for the average person to discount magic. After all, they only seem impossible to us because we don't live in a comic book world. Whereas in places like the Champions Universe these things have been around for decades at least, and are now looked on as an ordinary part of the world, albeit not one that most people have first hand experience with. And all of these abilties have perfectly "natural" explanations such as mutant powers or super science, so actual demonstrations of magic can easily be rationalized away as something that would be considered more "normal" in a comicbook universe.
  8. Re: Goodbye Washington DC If this is for a superhuman universe another question that needs to be asked is how many supers exist, how powerful are they, and how many of them would try to take advantage of the temporary chaos and intablility to advance their own agendas or just run wild? And conversely, how many and how powerful are the ones who would lend their aid to stabilzing the situation and helping in the recovery?
  9. Re: Well, I finished reading Conquerors, Killers and Crooks, and... Well, depending on your definition of hero, Nebula might count. She does have one line refering to her as a superheroine from the Andromeda Galaxy in Champions Universe. Though I personally wouldn't consider her one. And Foxbat is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from becomiing a hero. Or more accurately, an annoying and unwanted sidekick to an unlucky hero.
  10. Re: Holy Susceptibilities: God and Champions Would a superheroic Egon Spengler clone in ghostbusting power armor count? And yes, I eventually intend to write him up one day.
  11. Re: Here's a theory out of left field The Dragon is an NPC detailed in The Mystic World. It's basically the incarnation of the collective evil of the entire human race.
  12. Here's a theory out of left field It was The Dragon. The Mystic World does say that it sometimes subtly influences things to inspire villainy and thus evil. Perhaps the Dragon manipulated Teleios subconscious to write the paper himself in his sleep, even altering the way he normally wrote so he wouldn't recognize it was from his own hand. And thus Teleios is inspired, and evil and suffering follow, just like The Dragon wants.

    Schmucks?

Re: Schmucks? Bizarro Tak has the INT and Tactics at equal levels to Tak. And also has the option of proactively using a MegaScale Transform to change everyone into "Beings Harder For Tak To Kill." And your definition of GM's Call is so broad that practically anything any villain does falls under it.

    Schmucks?

Re: Schmucks? And what stops Bizzaro Tak from simply using a MegaScale "Suppress Wiping Out All Life On Earth Power" to counter Tak?

    Schmucks?

Re: Schmucks? No, we're just insisting on plausibility. Either you have heroes capable of stopping the top tier villains that exist in the world, or you have those top tier villains dominate the world. Whereas the other side is insisting you can get by with only 350 point heroes or less only in a world where the likes of Doctor Destroyer, Mechanon, and Takofanes roam, and still deny any of them ultimate victory. Only one of these positions is tenable. The other one leads to a world that makes no sense.

    Schmucks?

Re: Schmucks? See, this is where the "No one over 350 points" go wrong. The actual premise is that your characters stop all the threats they are potentially capable of stopping. Depending on your power level, these might be major threats to the world, or threats to your city, or even neighborhood. A super hero universe is an ecology of different levels. You don't see Spiderman going up against Thanos much, nor do you see Thor tangling with Doctor Octopus reguarly. Yes, but at least they exist in those univereses so the Spidermans and Daredevils of the world don't have to deal with Doctor Doom. Whereas the radical "350 pointers only" insist that no heroes should exist more powerful than the PC's, even if the PC's are at a power level in which they are ill equipped to handle the threats appropriate to more powerful groups. They oppose them even being made a part of the background. See the comment made by a poster above that Doctor Destroyer and Takofanes were stopped just fine with just people as powerful as Kinetix and Foxbat around. If Destroyer personally shows up and your a 350 pointer you're most likely not going to stop him, just as Daredevil has little to no chance of stopping Doctor Doom. The thing is, most writers have the sense not to put Spiderman in such a situation. And most GM's should as well when it concerns PC's not powerful enough to face challenges like Destroyer himself. Yup, in a world consisting solely of 350 point or less heroes Destroyer can do this and the heroes probably couldn't do a thing to stop him.

    Schmucks?

Re: Schmucks? Since Destroyer and Takofanes have always lost, it apparently did. Or apparently there are heroes significantly more powerful than Kinetix and Foxbat in enough numbers to make a difference, who just haven't been statted yet, and may or may not be statted in the future. Option B is much more plausible than Option A, unless you'd be willing to accept a Marvel Universe where the New Warriors are the Earth's Mightiest Heroes or a DC Universe where the Teen Titans are the world's most powerful team, and that the villains and menaces that the Avengers and Justice League sometimes barely managed to defeat are kept in line by such less powerful heroes.

  19. Re: Odd Champions campaigns A Fantasy Champions campaign using the above setting would be interesting.
  20. Re: Your father is WHO?! Not exactly a supervillain, but my character Warp's father is Franklin Stone, CEO and President of ACI, and from what I've heard the Champions Universe's analog to Lex Luthor* (I have not looked at his GM's vault info so I have no idea just how close he comes). *Post Crisis, Pre-Superman/Batman Lex Luthor. Jeff, I beg you, whatever your plans please do not have him go insane, inject Kelverite into his veins, and don power armor to go fight Horus-Re!
