  1. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Okay, well he DEFINATELY cannot replace any of these rings himself....He does not have ANY of the proper skills to repair them either. So Id have to say it would be unbreakable.... But now we have to look at letting him take the -1/4 vs the -1/2 since they cant be targeted now....Earlier I was willing to let him take the pool as a -1/2 since each individual ring could actually be targeted vs the random effect of a normal focus, but now Im not too sure. Maybe I could just say that its a normal focus and a "hit" to it just drains the energy of the ring, making it useless until it gets a chance to recover its energy (maybe through meditation?). That could be a way he "repairs" his rings. ...but then again, he cannot "duplicate" them if stolen...EVER. These babies are one of a kind. Ideas? Comments?
  2. Re: Ring Ring go away.... One question, why WOULDNT a player just say theyre UNBREAKABLE FOCI??? Whats the real disadvantage considering the cost differential is 0???
  3. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Thinking about it, I agree. Thank you Hugh. If one ring goes, the others probably go with it....Now there might be other occasions, but I think it should be okay. The "Ten Rings" thing is really just a special effect anyhow, and the only reason JUST ONE would be taken away is through GM specific plotline ANYHOW. Ill probably just slap a -1/2 on the base as well...
  4. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Sure thing. I should have it done in about a weeks time, or maybe a bit longer. Instead of a technological storyline, however, the player is going with an anciet oriental mystic background, with possibly some outside interference (alien race, etc). Not too sure yet. We're still fleshing everything out....
  5. Re: Which are the optional bits? AND the fact that you take extra KB from flight....
  6. Re: Ring Ring go away.... I agree...probably going with the -1/2 for the rings, -1/4 for the pool....
  7. Re: Ring Ring go away.... YES, that did help - Thank you. And now I feel silly as it all just makes sense. A standard GUN Multipower has long been used to build a set of guns that have different effects, yet each gun in different. A Batman-esque Utilitybelt MP (unless youre of the opinion that he has a VPP, heh.) would easily be OAF (or OIF if you read below), based on different focuses... Also if you read RIGHT below the example you gave me on pg 320 of 5er, theres a rule set of Varying Limitations..Not EXACTLY what Im talking about, as it deals with different limitations on the VPP and the Slots, but still... Anyhow, thank you...Also YES, I am making them ultra slots and each ring will only have one power...mostly. There are a few sets of powers that will go on a few of the rings (like one ringe which enhances the wearers mind abilites, giving him minor telepathy AND a small TK forceshield....Or another that have a small variety of energy blasts, such as a large blast and a small rapid fire blast...). Thank you....
  8. Re: Ring Ring go away.... OAF is more about being damaged in a fight...OIF is very hard to disable while fighting, but is more for removing outside of combat. I do not beleive the Mandarin had OIHID. The Mandarin did have his rings unavailable to him at times. He didnt always have the ability to teleport them to him but learned it later in his career. The player in question will NOT beable to do so. The reason you never saw the Mandarin lose his rings more is because he was an ANTAGONIST and not the main character (who was Iron Man mostly) that the comic was featuring. We see more of the GOODGUYS at a disadvantage because we follow them around more.... I also do not think that an EC applies. What -relatively common- drain is appropriate that would simultaneously drain away all of his powers? Also, I do NOT want the player able to use the powers at the same time. The fact is, the player -cannot- use his powers without the rings. If this is ever discovered and he is KOed, the enemies WILL take advantage of that.... Thanks for the reply, but I don't think I'll use that particular idea set....
  9. If I make a Multi-power with OIF, does every power have to be for the same focus if I want to apply the limitation to the base points as well? My current problem is that I have a player trying to make a Mandarin like character who uses several different power rings. Each ring has a specific "shtick" to it. They are definately OIF, but Im wondering if its rules legal to make one huge multipower and call it "Power Rings MP" with each different ring being its own separate focus....If he loses that SPECIFIC ring, he cant use that specific power, etc etc... Some of the rings will have several powers attached to it, while others might only have one. He'll never beable to use more than one ring at a time. If I make each ring separately, it becomes too expensive. The only other idea is to not use a MP and put the LOCKOUT disad from 5er on each power along with OIF..Thats still way more expensive than an MP though.. Any other options Im missing?
  10. Re: HELP: Of Thor and Loki GHOST WHO WALKS: This is not the way I'm taking my campaign, but you know, that is VERY well done and thought out. I'm tying all mine together as one background, but that shows a LOT of work on your part, and a very nice feel to it...
  11. Re: Stupid question In my opinion, you dont just add OIF if you buy 5pt CSLs for the bracers....you also add ONLY USABLE ON DEFELCTION ROLLS, which is basically just a 2 or 3 pt CSL, just done legally...as was suggested earlier.
  12. Re: HELP: Of Thor and Loki - bump, just to see if anyone has any comments about my finalized product...!!!
  13. Re: HELP: Of Thor and Loki Thanks all for the ideas and replys....I appreciate the help a LOT! Using an amalgamation on my own ideas and what Ive found on the boards, here's what I've come up with....Enjoy. Im very happy with how it turned out. The gods are astral spirits, creatures made of thought and idea. They carried immense power in their own astral dimensions and were masters of idea and creation. The plight of power, however, is that it always has a cost. No matter what they created, and no matter how hard they tried, the gods themselves could never feel anything for their creations. From lumps of rock to artistic sculptures, it was all the same to them. Being forces of power rather than actual creatures, they lacked the ability to retain emotion, either good or bad. Every color to them was grey, all food tasteless, and even if they could soar thousands of miles of aether in mere seconds, they could never delight in the wind on their face or the sun at their back. They simply were, and nothing could set them apart.... As these beings of the other-realms found the earthly dimension, they began to delight when they saw the green trees, the hot sun, and the variants of life and movement. Those gods that chose to cross over into the mortal realm found that foods all tasted different, pain could make you cry, and laughter could light up a room brighter than any star they could ever create. The cornicopia of intense emotions and feelings caused these entities to flock to earth and claim it as their own, ruling over it as dieties and These new sensations, however, caused the gods themselves to change. With the influx of every emotion, the gods turned from grey, objective creatures to titans of raw unbridled joy, happiness, contentment, and pride. With these also came hate, greed, jealousy and fear. The beings began to take on qualities of the world around them, usually aspecting themselves with the things or concepts that gave them the most pleasure or interest...Many became champions of the mortal races, while others just became gluttons of power. Through the ages, more and more astral beings flocked to this beacon of light. This caused great turmoil, conflict, and strife throughout both mortal and god alike. Alliances were made...and broken. Creatures of near limitless power fought each other for centuries, despite the consequenses it had on the landscape. In one of the last conflicts of the war, an astral hole was torn into the dimensional fabric and slowly, the power of these astral giants were siphoned away, till it took great amounts of effort to affect the physical world. Some of these astral entities were said to have found a way around this, but still the fact reamins that the contact to the gods have almost all been forgotten. When the gods powers began to leave the world, so did the very memories of them. Text began to dissapear, stories were forgotten, and great buildings and relics of their power merely dissapeared....The world of today hardly even remembers their existance. Now, the gods have been stuck back in their astral prisons, once again unable to taste, to feel, or to even cry. Whats worse is that unlike before, now they have had a glimpse of what its like to be human. Many will no longer sit back and stay in their lifeless grey limbo....Many want back, and will do anything they can to accomplish their goals....
  14. Re: HELP: Of Thor and Loki Thanks for the large selection Oddhat *I must spread some rep around before giving it to OddHat again I have had a few ideas of my own, some from that list, some not...Im still kicking everything around in my head. Thanks for more thinking material - now to go back to my habitual pre-game PACING ceremony-
  15. Re: HELP: Of Thor and Loki Thanks for the ideas so far....Keep them comming... Actually CBikle, I already have a bit of plot fot that. The human form was actually a different person (very Pheonix esk) who worked as a curator at a museum. In an attempted to break in, she accidentially got knocked back into a historical dispay, where she touched the tiara (she happens to be a blood descenant of the original wearer) and then the transformation into the nature goddess (more like goddess of the elements and such) occured for the first time. Thats the partial run down. The problem Im having is just determining WHERE the gods came from, their origins, goals, why they dont appear often, etc....Her plotline is that since shes been "sleeping" for several years, her powers are not as prominent as what a true god would have (300 to say 700-900ish???).
  16. I have a Thor like player in a supers game in a non Chapions world of my own design.... Thanks to all of you guys, I have a good background and set up for the world and what not, with all the plot and villian groups I need, however, Im missing deep storyline with any god based character. Individually, shes has a decent plotline, but I'm having problems finding the exact origin of gods and dieties in my game. Shes a nature goddess that right now has her power in a gem in a tiara that the "human" character wears to transform. I just really dont know what Im doing about gods in my game in general, and I hadnt really made ANY plot for them, until one player wanted to play one....I have several ideas, but Im wanting to see what you, Herodom, have to say about it.... So basically, Herodom, Im asking: What are various god Origin stories you have seen in comic worlds and/or made up for a comic setting....?
  17. Re: To agree or disagree with Steve's answer As I stated in TRL's post "Drain Drain go Away", I do NOT think that the rules meant to apply to Aids and Transfers, simply because they differ from Drains in that they have a point CAP that they can go up to.... You can find it here if youre interested... Now, my take on the situation is thus: You would LOSE 10 points of STR during the post segment 12, because thats its fade rate, unless otherwise stated (5 for each)....Now if there were MULTIPLE applications of a single AID, which is NOT the case, then they would all total only at a 5/turn rate (unless bought for lower). You would then RECOVER 28 Points of STR due to all of the drains fading away: 5 from the Mad Drainer, 5 from the Adjuster, 5 from the Mimic and the 5, 5, and 3 from the Gun Weilder (that last WOULD be five but it was only a total of 3...one has 0 left and the first has 2)... You would then be 3 points down from your norm... Turn after lose another 10, gain 17, with a net of 7, so youd be at 4 above normal Then lose 7 (5 and the remaining 2) and then gain 8 ( 5 from the first, and the remaining 3) for a net of 1...you are at 5 above normal... Then lose 5 (the last 5), and gain nothing..you are now at normal...
  18. Re: Who is... COUNT INFINITY? I agree..OddHat, that Quantum manipulation idea, especially when combined with a steampunk attitude really brings some spice and detail to a villian...I like it! Yet more ideas I must lock away, awaiting their proper time so I can steal them....
  19. Re: Drain, drain, go away I actually do not beleive, unless I missed a post somewhere, that AID and TRANSFER were implied in the rules about Drain... The main difference between Drain and both Aid and Transfer is that Drain has no maximum value, while the other two do. In this case, Aid and Transfer both have a maximum "ceiling" that they hit, and they fade at 5 pts per turn...A 4d6 Aid Str (24 limit), used 2 times to hit their aid max will only lose 5 points of that. A Drain on the other hand can be used continuously, stacking its effects with not hard cap....This, as Ive seen, can be VERY game breaking, thus the multiple return rates. A person with 4d6 Drain Str (no upper limit), uses it two times, draining anywhere from 4 to 24 per drain (so thats 8 to 48 pts of str now gone), will have his victim regain 10 of that back per turn. Now, Mr.Drain can just keep applying the Drain, keeping his str at a virtual 0, while Mr Aid has a steady cap that he can't break. I see it as a very fair trade. This is how I interpret it, but I may be wrong....However considering the nature of Aids, Transfers, and the like, I beleive they are separate from Drains in that ruling. To me giving a Drain a one minute delay rate while only letting multiple uses go away at a 5 per turn (minute in this case) instead of 5 per application would make an easily over powered ability. While I havent had to deal with the horrid paperwork (yet), I will fully accept it so that balance can be maintained, IMHO.
  20. Re: Who is... COUNT INFINITY? Wow, I LOVE this idea. I hope you don't mind that Im going to steal him and turn him into a Super Villian for my supers tabletop game... I'll give you a full character write up and history of my version when I get a chance (after work maybe). The basic premise Im going to use is the ability to duplicate ANYTHING he touches. I'm even going to let his own duplicates duplicate, however, I'm going to limit it somehow, possibly by reducing each duplicates endurance pool for every duplicate that the duplicate creates (ie the original is the first generation CI, while all of his duplicates only have full endurance, and THEIR duplicates only have 1/2, then their duplicates only have 1/4....then 1/5, 1/6, etc...until the lower generations will be nothing more than scads of beings with super powers, but only 4 or 5 endurance to run them off of....). Im not sure on that part... He'll also beable to duplicate other supers, yet place them under his control. I'll give him a large duplication multi power to let him duplicate other items while in combat (Superjump by letting him duplicate about 20 of himself and then recombine as he lands, throwing a scapel, that turns into a few THOUSAND while in the air, etc...) I haven't worked out the details, but I'll keep you posted on what I'm going to run with.....
  21. I just read Lord Liadens thread about the name COUNT INFINITY and I loved it. Im definately stealing this idea as a Super Villian for my tabletop game and Im going with the super scientist with Duplication (Actually, as his background goes, he can duplicate ANYTHING, as long as he has enough END to do so, however Im tacking on x5 end to all his powers to keep him balanced considering his dulicates can also duplicate). What Id like to ask you Herodom, is how would I best represent a power I'd like to call Safety in Numbers. I'm wanting this badguy to counteract one of the parties Mentalists with a 60 some odd PRESENCE (its his minion destroyer). The more duplicates the COUNT has out, the safer all of them feel, because if only one survives, COUNT INFINITY will live on to fight another day, so that means that any ONE particular clone is really dispensable. The more of an army he has, the less likely he is to be afraid.... Basically, what Im thinking of is buying +100 Presence, only to resist fear [-1], Limited: Gradually gets bigger bonus with each duplicate [-1 1/2] (Starts at 0, and then gets +2 per duplicate...and YES there will be times where he will have 50 duplicates on the field). On top of this, he'll probably have a base 20 PRE anyhow, or at least a decent ego, as going through his kind of super villian transformation would make ANYONE pompus.... Anyone have a better way???
  22. Re: The One (Loong Story) To be honest, I dont think ANY KS: Martial Arts should go on Keanu at all... If you look at the Matrix he was downloaded with several martial arts STYLES, which is being represented by the MA maneuvers he's being given... Now a knowledge skill is the inherent interworkings of a specific thing. To me, this includes background knowledge of when it was made, religious overtones, which cultures practiced it, the spiritual practices (if any) around which the martial arts focuses on, the mindset of what the art represents, and what its place was in historical context. I don't beleive ANY of these apply to Keanu...at all. He didnt "know" anything about the martial art, he just knew HOW to do it...like body reflex. At the same time, many could argue that its also bretahing techniques, how and when to use the MA, and what its weaknesses are, in which case it WOULD apply, however this could just as easily be represented by the skads of manuevers he has as well....It seems that most of the "downloads" in the matrix could be directly related to body memory and reflex (even piloting). With that said, this is your little version of him, so have fun, but KnowledgeSkills really don't apply in this case....
