  1. Re: Slade, time management, and you.... Not a bad breakdown at all... It was those few "slips" in the rules (such as not having an action to missle deflect) that made me think of triggered, although I think there might still have been a few instances (such as with Atom, as you mentioned). Also, with Black Canary, does her Canary Scream have extra time on it so he would audibly know before hand about it, or do you think that would be more of a trigger (triggered to go off when he head the jaw *click*)? Good segment by segment however....
  2. Re: The Team Not meaning to derail this thread, but I have a small answer for Scifi_Toughguy, who said: Your distain for the "supers" who were nothing more than bow uers is exactly WHY many people enjoy them. On the same line with batman, greenarrow and hawkeye are nothing more than highly skilled people. They werent BORN with special abilities and they didnt have to FIND a special suit or something....They use skill, training, ingenuity, and the belief that they too can make a difference.... So, thats my .2cents, but Im partial to them as well....Hope that answers some questions....
  3. Many on this board have read the issue of Identity Crisis which portrays Slade, AKA Deathstroke, taking on the JLA. There was even an earlier thread discussing a small writeup of him. One major factor that I see missing in most of the mini-writups was Slades overwhelming speed. Now, not his SPD per se, but the fact that he acted serval times in one round, as if he had several different Held Actions waiting for him. for a recap, heres what happens, as described in another thread by Bloodstone: Now what I see here is SEVERAL actions, not just done on different phases, but on the SAME phase. While one option is to say that Slade used the SWEEP maneuver (possibly with PSLs designed to conteract the -2, more than likely) it seems that it was all too well prepared for that. One option I have though of is that Slade, using 90% of his brain as he does, has several TRIGGERED manuevers, all possibly built with, say, Must have fought enemy perviously and prepared for this combat (-1). Possibly even some kind of EC based on combat tactics filled with nothing but TRIGGERED actions based specifially to take down a certain foe. Now I ask you herodom, am I complicating things? Was slade just merely sweeping and getting luck on his rolls? Mainly, WHAT allowed him, mechanics wise, to so precisely hit almost EVERY member of the JLA in one go...?
  4. Re: O.m.a.c. For my 2 cents... I found Identity Crisis to be AMAZING... Countdown to infinity was just plain awesome...(yeah, BB should get more dues, but still...thats what HAPPENS to nosey batman types when they snoop...just waiting for it to happen to bats =P) Villians united, Rann-thangarr wars, and OMAC a bit less so...but I have hope. All that has been release about the Infinity Crisis is it will be the "worst moment in the DC universe..." Im horribly excited about it all....
  5. Re: What are his powers...? I cant help but see Triad, err...Triplicate Girl from the Legion. The costume looks very familiar.....His costume could split in three...Red, Green, and Black versions.... Meh, but thats all the creativity youre gonna get out of me when Im hungry and sleep deprived...
  6. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? My 2 cents on OIHID... There has to be a LIMITATION for him not being able to use his shield while not in his heroic ID....Cap never suffers a time when he just "cant" use the shield because he forgot his red white and blue pajamas. While you state that he is never seen using it without costume, he is also never caught in a position where he was "trapped" in normal clothing, and resistant to use the shield. Cap, in this case, is getting exra cost break for no real limitation....It NEVER comes up in the source material that I've seen. Supers and Spidey? Sure...TONS of times...but never Cap. Thats just how he works...Its OAF, or OIF, depending on how you want to play it, but definately not OIHID, .......IMHO. ------------- On another note, its also no where near Independent....Its just not. Cap always gets it back somehow. Its a focus...Hes NOT just buying a new one. GLs ring has broken before and has been stolen. The ring he gets is a completely different one..but that doesnt mean that its Independent. Its a focus, so he gets it replaced relatively easily. Cap ALWAYS has a shield at his disposal, even if he has to scrounge up a little bit less of a replacement....
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Eclipse, a dark magic-based hero, is calling her uncle, who belongs to a council of secretive mystics, on his cell phone... Me(DM) - "Before you even say 'Hello', your uncle instantly says your name, and asks you what the situation is...." Amy (Eclipse's player) - "Wow, is that like some kind of mystic, clairvoyant power he has?" Me - "Yes....That or caller ID"
  8. Re: Strength Damage: Pathetic or what? Only argument to that is that its not just "some guy" with a stick...An 8d6 MA attack represents batman ESQUE training and skill...something near legendary....
  9. Re: This week on "Champions"... (note - not a champions game, but a home run Hero Supers game none the less) Megatopia's Finest 11:00 Wed - With the recent discovery of a terrorist plot by the organization V.E.N.O.M. and its mysterious allies, six rogue heros pull together under the banner of a government subsidiary called C.R.I.S.I.S. and set out to stop a meeting between several of their deadliest adversaries.
  10. Re: Help with Sai (character review) You will ALL PH3AR Impulse!!! (the poster child for the judgementally impared!)
  11. Re: Help with Sai (character review) OUCH! The UMA got CREAMED!!! Thats a hard book to find now-a-days! I dont mean to alarm you, but I'd run to your local game store and order one immediately, as they are out of print. I cant live without that book....speedsters are not the same without my good 'ol Passing Strike! =P
  12. Re: Quick rules Question... You are correct....The attacker does not take AWAY part of the damage he does to his foe, just additional damage to himself....
  13. Re: Help with Sai (character review) I still say that the biggest OMPF for your money is if you put back your psionic sai attack (+8d6), giving you a total damage set of 17 1/2d6 (3d6 from str, 2d6 sai, +8d6 psionic psi attack that you took out, +4 1/2d6 from your martial strike). That would put your damage right up there with the big boys (or more), AND let you do some difty martial MPAs as well... Then Id say take the advice from chapsguy and the others about your dex and con and such.... It really is a shame that your campaign is more combat based. And a note for your GM, I just played an AWESOME 6 hour hero game last night that all of my players loved....There was only ONE 30 minute combat session...So, its really just a matter of GMing style, I beleive....Good luck to ya...
  14. Re: Name My Supervillian! Ha! I love this one! Good quote too...
  15. Re: "Ya better talk Oculon, or you'll get the spike!" (A Super law question) Agreed, but I think the question is "Where do they go from there?" Since lethal injection is currently the "humane" way to carry out a death sentence, then WHAT do we go to next?
  16. Re: Help with Sai (character review) Actually if you took your old +8d6 psionic sia think youd be doing good, IMHO... Youd have 3d6 from str dmg, +2d6 from your sia, and them +8d6...and you could apply this all to MA maneuvers.... I also agree to drop the 3d6 sia throw....use those points to keep empowered sia and youll be good. Also, dont underestimate a 5d6 ego attack....Id say thats a good chunk of your characters versatility right there....
  17. Re: Help with Sai (character review) I agree...Especially since you've decided to go both COMBAT Mentalist with a very nice mix of RP and out of combat powers (on top of your MA), you will have a nice mix of abilities. Good job on the character...as Herdom has said, there are a few problems, but you really had most of it worked out on your own...now that lack of Sai's might be a problem, as already mentioned, but we'll have to see how your GM runs his Supers games...
  18. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Yeah, I'll probably house rule this because these rings are very similar to a GL ring... SURE you can use it, but it requires strength of will and training. For example, Green Arrow recently used Hals old ring in the Rebirth series. However, the ring wasn't charged so he used his own will, which he wasnt accoustomed to using. This instantly drained him and he had to he CARRIED out of the fight.... So with these particular rings in my game, anyone could use them if they had a little bit of training, but to use them WELL, you have to have a long bonded experience with them and mastery over your own emotions.....
  19. Re: How would you ... PC Fusion? I agree with Serpent though, if its a one time thing, let it happen just for cool special effects, just be prepared with a quick sheet. If they ever want to duplicate it, then theyd have to pay points to keep it...It would be full points too, not half each because the multiform is built for each individual to represent them dissaperaring..Theyre already getting a point break for it.
  20. Re: How would you ... PC Fusion? Id say itd be multiform with the limitation personal body dissapears (-1), similar to making astral projection, and OAF: Other entity made of water or earth(-2?), I'd let my players buy up to 1 + 1/2 of their CPs in a multiform. Example, if they were both 300pt characters, Id let them make a 450 pt multiform (300 + 150). So the power would cost 90 (90x5=450) / 4 = 22cps. This is unless theyre putting it in a multipower or have other limitations to add....
  21. Re: Ring Ring go away.... Thanks for the link Mortuorum....I actually have an old comic that goes step by step into each of the Mandarins rings as well... However, we are not dupliucating him directly...If you read above you can find my synopsis of the character history and what not. The alien technology bit is twisted around here a little.... And actually yes you can buy OIF for the whole bit. Check page 320 in 5er for an example. Thanks for the help guys....
  22. Re: Ring Ring go away.... True, however, if I DO target them in combat, they will NOT have ANY way to be restored, as per storyline...So like Captain A's shield, it should probably be unbreakable. GLs ring was "unbreakable" for the most part, in that it was NEVER targeted in combat....However it could be broken, but that was never taken advantage of in combat. Either way, there is NO WAY ON EARTH (literally) anyone can fix these rings.... They are old, ancient oriental relics used by many masters throughout history. A skilled chinese artisan received a dream about these ten rings of wonderous power. Upon waking he was driven to craft them to exactness. He spent over seventy years of his life making the ten beautiful masterpieces, and sadly died when the tenth one was finished. Secretly the designs were send down to earth by an alien race that knew humans would one day develop into powerful beings. The designs were sent down as a test to humanity to see how it would react to power. They are alien devices that feed off of human emotions as batteries (hence they are NOT build with an END reserve, or used with NO end). The rings respond to the wearers beliefs and desires, and have the potential to either empower the earth or help humanity destroy itself. A small storyline ensues to get the main character in possesion of the rings (and partially trained with them). And thats that....although NONE of this is set in stone YET...
