  1. Well to people who are used to the newer, really watered-down systems like D&D 3.5 and the Storyteller System, the Hero System does look complex. It involves a serious character generation, detailed movement, and lots of cool variables like Power Frameworks and Disadvantages. So most people take a look at the book, see it all involves some brainwork as opposed to die-rolling or coloring some dots, and they dismiss the game as unneccessarily complex. Ive also found that alot of people that gripe about the game play in a campaign, but dont own the book. They whine that its too complex, meanwhile they expect to learn the rules by other people telling it to them. It all boils down to laziness. I used to not get the system either, a long time ago. Then I decided to actually *reeeeeaaad* the book and it made sense in one sitting. Thats just my 2 coppers... Ive heard the same gripes about Runequest, Hackmaster, and other games that have detailed combat and character generation. It happens I guess. -=Grim=-
  2. Aight, maybe in 5th edition its changed or clearly defined, but as it stands I still use 4th ed. I have a question about animal and monster attacks. Certain entities have multiple attacks, like a bear having a bite and a x2 claw dealie. They still only get ONE attack per phase, correct? Not three or some other standard rule-breaking thing? I was totally sure of this answer until this little seed of doubt crept into my mind, so now I need clarification. Thanks, -=Grim=-
  3. Chances are, my post is based on ignorance (I play 4th, not 5th), but doesnt FH discourage power frameworks? Im curious now... -=Grim=-
  4. LOL, I meant the thread in general, not the stretching thing above my post. It took me like 5 minutes to figure out what you were talkin about... lol. -=Grim=-
  5. Im so glas I peeped this thread. This is a fantastic idea. I mean... yea. Freakin fantastic! I gotta toy with this one... -=Grim=-
  6. Yea, youre very correct. The ward is basically there to prevent large scale epidemics from breaking out as the hospital is too close to the city...as a matter of fact, its the only one of the types of hospitals that isnt in a remote area, thus the ward. Hrmmm, I didnt think of the Immunity AoE thing. Good idea. Very good idea. Thanks Brian..er... I mean Derek... -=Grim=-
  7. How would you do the following? I want to make a hospital run by my worlds take on the Knights Hospitaler. I want to have an invisible field around it, a ward of divine energy, that keeps diseases from spreading from the hospital to the rest of the city. The power would require a renewal every dawn, and it would be invisible to sight. But you WOULD get a strange tingling sensation once you passed through it. I want to say a force field, but how would I make it only keep diseases and viruses at bay? Is it as simple as a limitation: only keeps diseases at bay? If its that simople then I KNOW Im overcomplicating my powers... Thanks. -=Grim=-
  8. But definately a PhysLim that an evil GM would use now and then... "So the Villain apparently wants this Nuclear Battery, since youre alot easier to get to than a real Nuclear depot of some kind. MWhahhaha! " Aight, Im really only kidding. But I think it would depend on the setting. If youere running an alternate Erath where the Cold War never ended, thats gonna be worth more than 1, assuming the border travel happens alot (like one lives in Canada and works in the US). But other than that, I agree... yea 1 pt. -=Grim=-
  9. I really dig your use of colors here. Faded, yet intense somehow. I really, really like this picture. -=Grim=-
  10. Thats freakin cool. Good idea... I totally wasnt gonna go with SP. Good call. -=Grim=-
  11. Wazzat? Is that a website? Hrmm... Thanks folks. edit: I just searched online. Argh, its a book. I dont play 5th ed, so I dunno if that book will be useful to a 4th'r like me... heh. -=Grim=-
  12. My girlfriend posed a question to me last night. She asked how would you simulate Rogues ability to Drain someone, then gain there powers. My reply was that I thought it would be an END Drain (as they get all weak and stuff) linked to a Variable Power Pool. Is this even remotely the way to go? Maybe with Variable Side Effects, like in the movies she gained Wolverine's bad temper (PsychLim type side-effects as well as physical). The limitations would that you have to use the Drained persons powers in the VPP only, for a certain duration. Is this even close or am I waaaaaaaay off? -=Grim=-
  13. Dude, RAWKIN!! I loved GMing Glorantha back in the day. Me and my homies used to play RQ back when I was like...uh.. 12 or so. Yea, thats 7th grade, right? Whichever. But yea, Im stoked to see this conversion. I loved Glorantha and I love the Hero System, so mad kudos to you.. -=Grim=-
  14. Awesome. Thanks for the REALLY quick help folks. Appreciate it... now back to designing that villain. Mwhhaha! I suddenly have clarity. -=Grim=-
  15. OK, Im looking at the College of Time Magic in the 4th edition FH Companion II. Theres a spell that does a 3d6 Drain against Speed, effectively slowing time around the target. My question is this: the average character in Fantasy Hero has a 2 or 3 SPD, so is it correct of me to assume that the Drain affects decimals? Like a 3 SPD is a 3.0 for the purposes of this spell, and thus a 7 rolled lowers the target to a 2.3 SPD? Cuz a 3d6 Darin wouldnt even need to be rolled otherwise, but I dont see any ruling in the book, so I want to make sure... ..am I correct? -=Grim=-
  16. Im in the middle of making Trolls for my homebrew setting, so Im gonna toy with this tonight. I too am only half-content with the current Grw/Shr powers, so maybe Ill find this one to be more satisfying. -=Grim=-
  17. Monster write-ups, eh? So I basically wont need the bestiary is what youre saying? Or is that book still a good idea? I dont need dinosaurs and aliens, just Fantasy beasties. But the locations thing is awesome. I need some of those as filler. -=Grim=-
  18. Dude, I totally forgot about PhysLims for some reason. Ill chalk it up to a brain-fart. But I like both suggestions. The dependence thing is awesome because they CAN leave the house, but its just nasty to do so... Hrmmm. This campaign looks to be shaping up nicely. Thats what I love about this system: anything is possible. -=Grim=-
  19. Aight, Ive been thinkin about running a short campaign where the players are all GHOSTS! Basically the jist of the games will be that the PCs are all spirits that can interact with the mortal world in different ways. One can move things with a small TK, another can create images to scare people, another can Entngle (ie: freeze people scared), etc. Theyd have to work together to be able to manipulate the world around them (you'll need a "skin-rider" to possess someone so they can travel via car). But how can I do certain ghostly disadvantages? The one I cant figure out how to do would be: - Haunting: the ghost is actually tied to an area and cannot leave until exorcised. For example a house or a specific room, or a set item. Theres a few more I had in my head last night, but I forget them for now. But this forced "binding" to an area... would this be an existing disadv or a whole new one made up for the ghost-game? -=Grim=-
  20. Oh man... dude... how much are they letting it go for, and would you be willing to do the whole "I mail check, you mail book" type thing? Cuz I cant find this book for anything. -=Grim=-
  21. $3.99 plus shipping. I thought that was fair. Now I just have to find a freakin 4e Bestiary and Ill be happy. And thank Gawd (Hackmaster wooo!) that the FHC2 has ship combat rules. One of the main kingdoms is a sea-faring, island chain type dealie... -=Grim=-
  22. Dude, you so TOTALLY rock as far as Im concerned. Thanks a ton. -=Grim=-
  23. Can anyone point me to a website that has reviews for the 4th edition Fantasy Hero companions I and II? Cuz I just won them on Ebay, but I have NO idea whats in them. Yes, we still play 4th edition, which is why Im asking. Or can anyione here tell me what was in the two books?? Thanks ahead of time. -=Grim=-
  24. Youll love the new one then, as he can walk and soul-suck. But, he cant run and still must use his hands to pull down his scarf, so maybe 1/2DCV is better. This is what I love about this system: you can make anything. Even Nosgoth. -=Grim=-
  25. Anyone familiar with Raziel from the Legacy of Kain series? If so, how would you create his ability to rip the souls out of a person and suck them in to heal? I know the heal would be an Aid, but how do you rip someones soul out? A TK that affects Desolids? Is a dead body a focus or a conditional power thing? I only ask because I have a habit of overcomplicating powers with too many things attached to 'em, and everyone on this site is reeeeally good at making powers simple and effective. I dont even wanna contemplate Kain or Raziels points... or Mobius. Ouch. -=Grim=-
