  1. This has probably been mentioned elsewhere but how powerful is magic in its current state? From your previous posts I understand it to be weakened due to the gates being closed and proximity to the gate/hot zone can increase the potency of magic. Is magic minor tricks and glamour's or is it major magic which can redefine countries. If it is just minor I don't see much of an effect but if its powerful it could be very influencing. I would expect schools being created to train young ladies and the occasional men, being built near old portals. Given time you might even get something similar to the Aes Sedai and White Tower in the Wheel of Time books, it may even develop a Black Tower for the men but with the little number I doubt it. I would have mixed feeling about being the only boy in a school of 100 girls. It could be great or a living nightmare. These schools depending on how they educate young people could create several different social types. If taught one way they could view themselves as elite beings above their non-magical kin (Jedi). But if taught another they may view themselves as a minority who are outcast from society (X-men and Mutants). If a man and women who both have magic have an increased chance of breeding a magic user you could see Group/Countries competing of men to breed with their magic users, similar concept to Studding Animals. That would create quite an interesting social situation.
  2. The most interesting part Legally is going to be in regard to Feeding. Do they need to feed from Humans or can it be from other animals? Also does the blood need to be fresh, if not Blood could become a commodity for trade which would have to be regulated. Law regarding feeding would have to put into place. I would assume that feeding from an unwilling victim would be considered assault or potentially attempted murder. If it was consensual is could be allowed, however if Vampires' have any sort of mental powers it could be considered coercion. It seems to me it would legally be similar to Sex. The other thought is that you said a person has to die before they can be effected by the Vampire Curse/Disease. Are they dead in a Legal sense? I'm sure this would of come up quite soon and their would be a legal ruling on the matter. But if the person has died and then been reborn are they the same person? It could be argued that they have died and their possessions and money would be distributed as dictated in a will. As DShomshak suggest it could be illegal to turn people. They cannot use propagating the species as an excuse for infecting people as vampirism can be transferred genetically through children. Do both parents have to be vampires or does it only have to be one of them? When does the vampirism first develop? If vampirism is a Recessive Gene it could be passed on for several generation until it shows up again, meaning that a child could become a Vampire when neither of his parents were. This all depends on how you tread the Vampirism Curse/Disease.
  3. This seems like an especially powerful ability. If you can summon anything that comes to mind, I would consider using a Variable Power Pool. This would allow you to create any items you wanted.
  4. One of my ideas for later is to have the players' create monster PCs; Lycanthrope, Bullmen, Orcs, Wizards, etc and have them be part of Special Task Force Unicorn and play a different type of game but in the MHI setting.
  5. Thank you PayCheckHero for your comprehensive work. I understand most of it, but I think it is becoming a little complicated. I might give a copy to my player and let him try to work all the numbers out if he wants, the work load might encourage him to leave it alone and get on with the game. My initial thought was inline with Tasha's, to ignore the Max Ranges and base them on Line of Sight and Environmental Conditions. Thanks for every ones input.
  6. The Player's Character was an Army Sniper before joining MCB (He is also ex-army himself, although I believe he was in demolition and bomb disposal). The problem I think is that in the MHI book there is a x10 Telescopic sight which offsets 14pts of Range penalty which is 1km. As you have to Brace or Set with that scope it offsets another 2pts, so if he is shooting between 1-2km using that scope he is at no Range Penalty. So mechanical speaking he has a very good chance of hitting his target and about 75% chance of a head shot with is OCV modifiers. So the book lists Scopes to allow shooting at that range but does not list any weapons which could make effective use of it.
  7. In my game I have several players who are a little fanatical about their guns, its one of the reasons I am running a MHI game. They keep complaining to me about the ranges on some of the guns. Some of the Sniper Rifles only have ranges of about 300-400m and they say that this is way too short, that some should be over a 1km. I have told them repeatedly that the ranges are mechanically derived to maintain balance. Am I correct in this statement? I have said that they can create a custom gun and pay for what ever range they want. One of the characters is a very skilled Gunsmith and has built weapons previously. I have also stated that if they bring me document specification on a gun in the book and if range is greater I will allow them to use that range. Does anyone know of a good site which lists weapon specifications? Have people observed any problems with the ranges list in MHI? I myself find them to be fine and my players have generally not been shooting at over 300m but they keep mentioning it and its getting a little tedious, so I would like to resolve it.
  8. In the end it turned out two of the players had been infected. That's what happens when you decide to track a Lycanthrope through its forest territory on the night of the fall moon. In the end they were both confined to the MHI Compound for the next month under armed guard. One of the players decided to have a bullet put into the back of his head and a hunters funeral. The other decided to try to learn to control the beast which meant they were taken to a deserted island (the same one Earl used) and would be left there until they learnt to control the beast. They would be monitored regularly. This effectively removed the PC from the game as it take years to learn to control the beast if its even possible. So we had two new members joined to the squad.
  9. I would say that the only problem with this is that the only people who can test for the Lycanthrope virus are MCB and they would shoot the person as soon as the test showed positive, maybe even before that if they think the person was healing too quickly. This statement might now be completely accurate. MCB are only people with Field Test Kit to test for Lycanthrope Virus. A Lab might be able to test for the virus if they knew what they were looking for, however I am unsure if anybody outside MCB in the US knows how to perform these test or is allowed to.
  10. I am Rules as Written until they interfere with enjoyment. I always like to use the rules as written but when the rules start to interfere with the enjoyment of the games I will sometimes Hand Wave them. I will do this with any system I run, enjoyment of the game and maintaining roleplaying is more important than the system. Most often this is related to death, I am happy for a PC to die if it is deserved by action/inaction but if the party has a good plan and it fails due to unlucky dice I usually allow the party to survive but incur other consequence from it. I must admit when I was learning Hero I hand waved a lot more often quite often because I miscalculated how challenging an encounter would be and needed to alter it. However as I have become more experienced and knowledge of the rules & system I find I have to do this much less.
  11. Concept Template for Lycanthrope in Human Form: Strength: +2 Dexterity: +2 Constitution: +2 Speed: +1 Enhanced Perception: +1 to All Senses Resistant PD/ED for 2pts Regeneration: 1-Body per Hour - Except versus Silver Life Support: Immunity to all Disease Accidental Change: 11- When Exposed to Certain Forms of Stress This is just a basic concept, what are peoples opinions?
  12. A player in my game has been bitten by a werewolf and has become infected (Not Yet Confirmed). This has resulted in quite a discussion. In the end it was decided to monitor the character and at the next Full Moon cycle to confine them and observe whether they change. My thought was on how MHI would react. Considering their employees I think that MHI would help, get them somewhere isolated and with Earl's help get them to come to terms with the beast and gain some control. If the condition did become known, especially to MCB I would think MHI would request PUFF exception in which case they would work for Special Task Force Unicorn to earn it. What are peoples thought on the matter?
  13. What abilities should a Lycanthrope have while in human form? Earl Harbinger maybe an exception but in the books he is shown to possess some of his werewolf powers while in human form; Enhanced Perception, Strength, Speed and Regeneration. Although these are not close to what he would have in his Werewolf form. Although all people infected with the Lycanthrope virus regenerated at an accelerated rate (1 Body/day). It is one of the signs that they have been infected when they heal from the encounter quickly.
  14. Some of my players have also complained about the difficulty to damage a Zombie. What I tell them is take a look at your weapon. Its got a range of 250m with no Range Penalty due to the Sights. With a standard Zombie's Speed of 2 and Movement of 4m. About 15-turns moving at Non-Combat Speed to get into melee; most of my PC have speed 4, even with single shots they will fire about 60 shots, with approximately OCV8 vs. DCV3. You are going to be putting a lot of bullets into them before they get close. If they get close run away and then start shooting again, repeat as needed. The other factor is that Zombies are built as Automations, so every body they lose reduces Speed by 1, Strength by 10 or removes 1 sense (MHI p.213). I usually say that Head Shots reduce Speed, so only 2 Body is needed to effectively disable a Zombie. We use Hit Locations in my game, although Zombies' have the No Hit Location Power, I generally say that if a Zombie takes a 1/3 of it Body to a limb (Arms & Legs), that limb is destroyed. In one encounter had a zombie with no legs and 1 arm trying to bite a PC's ankle; It was solved with the traditional lead lobotomy.
  15. Generally I run Heroic games, so standard equipment is purchased in game with money. If the Players acquire equipment during play depending on how they acquired them with determine what action I take. If its bought legally the only cost is money. If the item is spoils of battle then its free, but it might have repercussions; if the weapon is generic its usual fine but if the item is distinct then its an indication to anyone who is looking for the killer or the item itself that the Player was involved and depending on the people involved I might give the player a Hunted Complication (This is kept secret until the player realises what is happening - They get no points for the complication). If the items is powerful, there may be a point cost to fully activate the items powers; if the cost is not paid the items strength is reduced or treated as a normal example of the item.
  16. I did not know this in all my years of playing and running have always done it that you were considered taken out at 0-Body. This will alter things quite a bit in my game.
  17. As a bonus for people who kickstarted MHI they gave the PDF "Adventures in Monster Hunting" which contained six scenarios which could be played individual or as part of one campaign. I am currently running it for my group and they are enjoying it. I am unsure if they plan to publish it or make it available on Hero Store.
  18. So if I understand this correctly, if a character falls below 0 Body they can still act completely normally, (Although a GM may applies penalties) acting in exactly the same manner as if they had over 0 Body except that after each Post-Segment 12 they lose 1 Body until stabilised. If their body falls to negatively equal to their Full Body they die. (i.e. Character with Base Body of 12 dies at -12 body)
  19. What action can a character take when they are on negative body but have positive stun? I have said to players that you are severally injured but are conscious. If they are bleeding I have allowed them to attempt to treat themselves (Paramedics Roll), at an increased penalty. Once they have stabilised I have said that you can take minor actions but anything strenuous could cause you to pass out or start bleeding again - Constitution Rolls with penalties based on current body for taking actions each phase. How have other people handled this?
  20. I like that idea of increase damage limited to bypass armour. I will put some of these ideas forward to my group.
  21. Good day. I am currently running a MHI game and we are use the optional Critical Hit Rule. My queries related to determine what is a Critical Hit for Combat Maneuvers where additional effect is determined by Margin of Success on attack rolls? Related Combat Maneuvers: Autofire: I have treated each shot as an individual attack for determining if its a Critical Hit. i.e. Target DCV: 3. Attacker hits DCV of 13 or less. So Shots hit on 3,5,7,9 & 11. I have said that shots 3 and 5 are Critical Hits and 7,9 & 11 roll damage normally. Is this the correct method? Multi-Fire: Was unsure how to handle this. My initial thought was to say that using the same attack example as above that the base attack +1DC does maximum damage and the 4DCs is rolled as normal. However this does complicate matters. Was wondering if their is a rule precedent or how you would rule it. Thank you.
  22. I just realised the easiest method to reduce the effect of Damage Negation is to by the Adder Reduced Negation. (6E1 p.144) which reduces Damage Negation by 1DC for 2 Character Points. I could build this as a Naked Adder for the specific weapon. Piercing: Can it be applied to Damage Negation or Reduction. Although Reduced Negation is Piercing for Damage Negation. Does Damage Reduction have a parallel method of negating it or is it the only defence which cannot be reduced or bypassed?
  23. Using the term armour as a general term for defensive abilities. I use damage negation to build supernatural defences; A gargoyles stone body, a vampire ability to shrug of damage, etc. I am probably going to tell him no to the power because its a magical quality and does not have a chinks in, however I wanted to work out the build. What I was more interested in was converting Find Weakness to 6th Edition and what ramifications it would have on the system.
  24. I generally prefer my gods to be both spiritual and physical. I usually build a Greater god which covers a concept; Space, Creation, Fire, etc. These Greater gods are beyond physical matters and concerns, they simply exist and do as their nature dictates. Mortals have very little knowledge of them. As part of their nature these greater gods create lesser gods which are aspects of their concepts. These lesser gods exist as a spiritual entities but are able to create avatars which can take action on the physical plane. Avatars can be immensely powerful or have no more power than a mortal depending on the whims of the god. Gods can have multiple avatars and destroying an avatar just releases the spiritual energy, A god can only be destroyed permanently while in spiritual form and if that ever happened, its essence would just return to the greater god.
  25. I have a player in my game who wants to build a power to reduce an opponent's Damage Negation. Description: Thrust a knife into the targets armour and create an opening to attack in. Concept Build: Drain (Suppress) 3d6 - Limitation. RSR - Knife Trick; Pay Endurance Each Phase to Maintain (-1/2); OAF (Knife; -1); Defence Drained Only in Hit Location Hit (-1/4); No Range. Another option is to use the 5th Edition power: Find Weakness. What would be the procedure for updating it for 6th Edition? Any suggestions or alternative builds would be appreciated.
