1. Setting: Monster Hunter International. Abilities: Human (Heroic) equipped with Armour (9-11rPD) and Modern Weapons ( Assault Rifle, Grenades, etc.) Location: Seattle, Washington. - Main confrontation is in Washington State Park (modified slightly to fit my needs) - Terrain: Lawns, Woodland, Open Air Theatre (Event occurring at present), etc. Other confrontations will take place at various location around Downtown Seattle (Vancouver Method) - Terrain: Urban. Unit Types: The Demons, Werewolves and Vampires are capable of acting independently. The Lesser Undead are built as Automation - Can follow simple commands given by creator/master. Control can be taken by a powerful spellcaster which are not present on the battlefield. Civilians: It is a Saturday evening. There is a concert and other events on at the park (Armies planning to transform civilians into undead to bolster their ranks). Downtown is teaming with Night Life. Depending on PC action some area will of been cleared of civilians.
2. In games I have run I usually have the Greater Aspect of the god/goddess as devices, however the gods are capable of channelling part of their essence into a material form. Depending on how much essence they channel this avatar could be built as a normal person or built with superhuman abilities. Sometime the god severs or seals the Greater Aspect from there avatar and the avatar can be ignorant of who and what they are. These avatar are responsible for some of the demi-human races and why some people have magical abilities.
3. My Players are about to enter a battle zone. Two opposing Organisations have resorted to open warfare. Each side has 100s of lesser creatures; Zombies, Skeletons, etc. and Heavy Hitters Demons, Werewolves, Vampires, etc. Unfortunately for the local populace they have been caught in the middle of this war. The players feel compelled to save them (The large Bounties on the creatures does not hurt either). If the PCs go up against the Heavies it is quite manageable but with the lesser creatures such as zombies that are moving in groups of between 20-50 could become unmanageable (Time and Records) in a individual combat bases. My initial thought was to use the Mass Combat Rules from Hero Fantasy. So a will end up with PCs attacking a group of 50 split into 5 units of 10. I am interested if people can see any flaws with this plan or have used the same or different methods for handling similar situations.
4. Good day. If using the optional Hit Location Rules and a Killing Attack is made on a creature with the Power No Hit Locations, although they still suffer stun how do you calculate it? Thank you
5. I have been running a MHI game for about 15weeks now and I have found that the players are taking out creatures relatively easily. I think the main issue, which I cannot fault them for is preparation. I planned an encounter with Wererats in the city they were based out of. They examined the area which the creature were operating in and some of the body's of victims. They took a guess that the opponents were Wererats and armed appropriately (MHI Silver Ammo). What makes Lycanthrope extremely dangerous was negated and the armour that the PC wear is exceptional. I don't think one player took body from a wererat's attack. After the first few encounters I have started planning the environment and location a great deal more. I usually create a location which can benefit the players if they choose to take advantage, however I have start allowing the creatures to use the environment a lot more. Since then the encounters have become much more interesting, although not as I always planned. Last couple of sessions the players broke up a magic ritual which involved sacrificing about 15 innocent people. The Cultist used them as shields and the player shot anyway killing all the innocents. The repercussions to the incident are going to be interesting.
6. Good day. The Wight's Paralyzing Touch has the Advantage Takes No Damage from Attacks (+1). So it takes no damage from outside attacks but can the entangled target can attempt to break the entangle with Strength or is it said that as the effect is the target is Paralyzed they can not move so cannot make the an attempt to escape? Would the fact that the entangle last only 1-minute be classed as a method for escaping the entangle as required by the +1 version of Takes No Damage from Attacks?
7. I found it odd myself, although I did allow a player to have it as a hereditary Gift relating to an ancient pact made by her ancestors with an Old One. The negative is that as the Old One grants this power it allows the Old One and its Servants to more easily Mentally Dominate her and perceive what she perceives.
8. My player has designed the knife for a specific reason. Some targets are insulated from electrical attacks whether this is from natural/supernatural aspects or armour. This defence would render a standard Taser useless, however as the Taser is part of the blade if the blade penetrates the defence, represented by doing body to the target the electrical attack has effectively bypassed the defence. I had not thought of using Change Environment for the stun, I will try the build to see how effective it is.
9. Was planning to build the knife as a HKA linked with a Blast NND (Insulated rED). However if the target is wearing Insulated rED but the Knife does body, it has bypassed the defence and blast would deal damage. I am unsure of how to represent this. My thought was; Blast NND (Insulated rED - Knife must Not Do Body). I was unsure how to adjust Advantage/Limitations for this. I would usually apply a 1/2 Advantage to a Blast NND (Insulated rED). My thought was that as the Knife can Bypass the Defense I should modifier the Advantage by +1/2. The Build: Taser Knife: (Total: 75 Active Cost, 23 Real Cost) Killing Attack - Hand-To-Hand 1/2d6 (1d6 w/STR), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (15 Active Points); OAF (-1), Real Weapon (-1/4), STR Minimum 4 (-1/4) (Real Cost: 6) Blast 6d6, Attack Versus Alternate Defense (Insulated rED - Knife Must Not Do Body; All Or Nothing; +1) (60 Active Points); OAF (-1), No Range (-1/2), 10 Charges ( Battery Pack; -1/4), Linked (Knife; -1/4), Real Weapon (-1/4), STR Minimum 4 (-1/4) (Real Cost: 17)

What are peoples thoughts?

10. One of my players wants to design a Air Gun which fires small plastic balls containing different gases. Was planning to build the gun as a Multipower, each power in the Multipower represents a clip of balls containing a different gas. Example: Knockout Gas: Blast NND (Does Not Breath or has Half-Mask) The issue is with CS (Tear) Gas. Commonly represented as Flash - Sight Group. However CS gas also causes choking and makes it harder to breath How would people represent this aspect of CS Gas? My thought was Change Environment with Modifiers to actions and something which stops targets from taking Recovery actions.
11. I have used several different curses in games and the mechanical aspect varies depending on the type of curse. Usually I represent them as a Complication with additional mechanics. e.g. Curse of the Swamp Witch - Distinctive Features: (Noticeable by Common Senses; Causes Extreme Reaction) - Characteristics of a Toad (Green Skin, Warts, Webbed Hands & Feet, Long Tongue). Psychological Complication (Frequent, Mild) - Need to Consume Insects. This was in 5th Ed, I would add Striking Appearance 3d6 - Gruesome. Curse of Darkened Soul - Effect: Psychological Complication: Utterly Evil (Total, Very Common). Curse of the Drunken Fool - Physical Complication (All the Time, Slight) - Characters permanently intoxicated. (Suffers -2 DCV in Combat due to intoxication). Although I allowed the character after a time to gain Environmental Movement - "I can Drunk just as Good Fight" to represented that they had learnt to use the intoxication in combat. I have had a player in game represent a Fear of Orcs by taking a -10 PRE (Only relating to Resisting Fear from Orcs). I applied a -1 Limitation to this so the player only gained 5 character points. It was a bit of an experiment and it seemed to work out well.
12. What do you want to transform the attacks into? Are you transforming the attacks into something which could be beneficial to you or are they miscellaneous items. If its just miscellaneous items I would treat it as special effect of a defensive power such as Damage Resistant, Reduction or Negation. This is fine disposable attacks (Bullets, Blasts, etc.) However for attacks which are reusable or part of the attacker (Sword, Fist, etc.) this would not work. I would think you would need to discuss this with the GM; my initial thought would be a transform with a trigger.
13. Good day. I wanted to confirm what the modifier applies to when wearing armoured gloves. MHI p.162 Shooting Gloves: -1 Dex Modifier Armoured Gauntlet: -3 Dex Modifier Does this modifier effect the characters Characteristic or is it a modifier to dice rolls? i.e. Character has Dexterity: 15 (Roll: 12) If the Character wore the Shooting gloves would this reduce their effective Dexterity to 14 (Roll: 12) or would it impose a modifier to the roll - Dex: 15 (Roll: 11) when using the hands? Thank you.
14. I have run a Dresden Files game with 5th Edition before the Evil Hat RPG came out. I just ran it using the Urban Fantasy Hero Book. Was quite popular, I will look to see if I still have my notes. I would be interested in Fate to Hero Conversion.
15. My first thought is the Advantage applied to the Multipower - Delayed Effect. An Advantage taken for the multipower reserve applies to all slots automatically; each slot does not have to purchase the advantage again (Rule - 6E1 p.405). Other than that the build appears to be fine.
16. Good day. Does Damage Reduction - Normal reduce the Stun damage from Killing attacks or is it only effective against Damage form Normal or AVAD Attacks? Thank you.
17. Good day Was looking at the Monster Hunter International Book p.272. The Flesh Golem is built as an automation with the power Takes No Stun. However it has the complication Vulnerability: 2x Stun from Fire (common). How does this work? Does the automation still take stun damage from fire or will it only take body. If this is the case why does it have the complication, because it is not a complication for the build. If this is the case is it the same for all automations with Takes No Stun and Vulnerability: Stun Thank you.
18. I did not think of Surbrook. Had a look at the write up of Bolt Crank there and it was similair to how I would do it. He should be interesting in our game.
19. Bolt Crank is the main character for the Manga/Anime Eat-Man. Bolt has the interesting ability to recreate any item he ingests, this extends to the abiliy to fix, reassemble or combine ingested items. Once an item has been recreated it cannot be recreated again without first ingesting the item again. Example. He has consumed a gun and later eats bullets, when he recreates the gun he can combine it with the bullets. He has also consumed flammable fluids and then holding a naked flame in his hand released the fluids creating a flame thrower. Although he has shown the ability to bite through metal he often has the item disassembled to make consumption easier (A tank broken down to parts) There appears to be no limit to the size or quantity of items he can consume then recreate. It has been speculated that inside him is linked to an extra-dimensional void which all items are stored in and then summoned from through any part of his body. I was wondering how to build this in Hero. My first thought was a VPP - No Skill Roll Required which has the limitation must of ingested Item first. Another thought was to use summon to represent recreating vehicle and devices and then give him HKA and RKA with Variable Advantages and Variable Special Effects to represent that he can recreate different weapons.
20. Good day. Have been reading through the Monster Hunter International PDFs. They are great and am looking forward to running some games but had a query regarding a monster build. Creatures with Blood drinking (Vampires, Alley Crawler, etc.) The power related to blood consumption - Specific attack must do Body first. I assume this is a linking. My query relates to why the advantage Constant is added to the power? In 6E1 p.385 it says a contant power linked to an instant only works when instant is used and you may take the a limitation to change a constant to any instant, so why add constant to the power?
21. I am unsure. I used WinZip and have had no problems with the MHI Character Pack.
22. As a GM I have done this the same as Markdoc. My players were from a possible future earth and were experimenting with a dimension gate end up stranded in a Fantasy world. Through Roleplaying they aquired land and goods which they used in the construction of a settlement which started an Industrial Revolution. I did award them points for this which were only to be used for related matter; e.g. One character roleplayed hiring a Secretary through interviews and talk and used his points to purchase her as a follower, as the game progressed she was developed further. Another spent his points in skills related to managing and construction. The intial settlement (base) was aquired by gold and deals. It expanded as they hired people, who brought their families. In time the intial building had expanding into a full fledged town. As a group we found this to be much more enjoyable than me giving them points and building a town. Which was an option I offered them if they wanted to focus on other matters in the game. Doing it this way I introduced alot of interesting NPC which they met during their dealings. As I stated they sparked a small Industrial Revolution; this mainly being the construction and operation of a Railway System. This had a massive impact on the world, effecting trade, politics and economy. However I would advise looking at the Ultimate Base book as it discusses these topics.
23. Detecting Clairsentience Perception Points depends on the Special Effect. In a modern setting this could be a securiity camera or similiar device which might not require a percpetion roll if its obvious. However if its a magical eye then a detect which detects either magic or Clairsentience Perception Points (Scrying) would work. You can have fun with this as a GM. I took this from the Wheel of Time book series. It is said that the Dark One can see through the eyes of carion eaters (Rats, Ravens, etc.) so people are nervious of them and will often kill them on sight. Once the players spent 1 week of game time killing all the rats in a castle so the enemy would not learn their plans. Of course they completey overlooked the human spy.
