  1. What it'll take is Donald Trump becoming a big political liability, meaning that the base abandons him in big numbers. I don't see any sign of that happening. Until it does, he can do anything he wants to do and he'll only face, at most, mild criticism from elected Republicans.
  2. Wow, I've not seen many RPG Kickstarters go this quickly. In about an hour and a half, it's already at $30k. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sjgames/the-fantasy-trip-old-school-roleplaying?ref=user_menu I'm looking forward to rediscovering this game. I played it a little back when, but it wasn't what I was looking for at the time. I think these days it may be just right for some game nights.
  3. We just finished S1 of Babylon Berlin, a German series set in 1929, during the Weimar Republic. At its core, it's a detective story, but it's also about Germany during those years, and features a lot of great characters and acting. Not to mention set design -- the enormous set makes it feel very real, like they really are on the streets of Berlin in 1929. It's just a fantastic series, and I'm very much looking forward to when S2 makes it to Netflix.
  4. I've read most of the series the character's been featured in, and most of them were disappointing from the perspective of the Black Widow character IMO. Hopefully this movie will live up to the character's potential.
  5. Welp, looks like I’ll be spending the rest of my life under a conservative Supreme Court. Thanks, Hillary.
  6. Infant formula companies have more money than infants do.
  7. We watched the first two episodes of Marvel's Cloak & Dagger. Good stuff so far!
  8. Oh, crap. I’m sorry to hear he’s not with us any more. He seemed like a great guy, and he was always happy to help. RIP.
  9. I, Tonya. Good stuff. But what a group! A dummy hires someone dumber, who hires two people even dumber...
  10. Wil seems like a fine person who doesn’t take himself or his place in nerdom too seriously.
  11. I hope the surgery goes perfectly, and that you get more benefit than you expect out of it!
  12. We watched Jumaji: Welcome to the Jungle last night, having already seen it a few times in the theater. It’s still a really fun adventure movie after all these viewings. One of my favorites. It’s not a great film, but it’s a great movie.
  13. Congratulations on your new campaign! SUPERS! RED is one of my favorite RPGs, and I’ve had great success running it. It’s a very different thing than Champions, but it is very much true to the feel of comic book supers. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a lighter, looser supers RPG. Enjoy!
  14. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales It was fine. The franchise continues to decline, but it still has its moments. It was nice to return to the Will & Elizabeth story.
  15. I got completely burned out about 15 years ago. I'd been role-playing and GMing for 20 years, I'd gone through the highs and lows of becoming a game developer on one of my favorite games and then seeing it closed down due to the owner losing money because of the Asian financial crisis (1997), I had been intensely involved in online discussions on Usenet (including acting as a company's liason to the fans), running games at GenCon Milwaukee for years, and on and on. One day I was setting up for a game in my basement (running D&D 3.5e, using the Dwarven Forge stuff for the dungeon). I looked around and realized I wasn't having any fun at all, and hadn't been for a long time. I was just doing it out of obligation. So when everyone got there, I went ahead and ran the game and then let everyone know that, as much as I enjoyed their company, RPGing wasn't for me any more. I would no longer be running or playing games. I was out. The group was comprised of good friends and some family members, so they understood. We eventually found other things to do together and had a great time. I put all the games away and didn't buy anything new or even keep up with what was coming out. And I stopped participating in online forums about gaming. It took me about 10 years before I had that old feeling, wanting to run a game. And it's been great since! No feelings of burnout at all. But it did take time, and stepping completely way. YMMV.
  16. I see it is the best of the three, followed by 1and then (more distantly) 3. I didn't really care for the Vanko character, but the Black Widow scenes more than make up for that.
  17. I'm sorry you're having to go through that again, Hyper-Man. Hopefully this is the last time you'll have to deal with this recurring villain.
  18. I streamed the first few episodes of the 1964 American TV show My Living Doll. It’s really funny! Julie Newmar plays a robot designed by a government contractor for the space program. Through a series of mishaps, she ends up leaving the facility and living with a psychiatrist who works for the contractor, played by Bob Cummings. He has to keep her hidden until the guy who designed her comes back from a trip and can disassemble her to smuggle her back in. The whole thing is quite well done for the time, and holds up well. There were several laugh-out-loud moments in each of the first three episodes. Newmar is fantastic in the role. It’s on Amazon Prime, BTW, if you want to check it out.
  19. Anyone else love the old BBS door game TradeWars 2002? It’s been on my mind recently, for some reason.
  20. Yay! We doubled our fun by unlocking the expansion deck. Woo hoo!
  21. The thing about HERO System is, it’s all there in the core book, or it’s stuff made using the core book, or it’s someone’s extrapolations from the core book, or it’s generic info you can get from multiple sources (like a treatise on a given genre). All you need is the core book. The current core book is Champions Complete (or you can get Fantasy HERO Complete if you’re more likely to start with the fantasy genre than the supers genre). If you want official rulings on the various questions that inevitably come up about any system, get 6e1 and 6e2. If you want more extrapolations, get the Advanced Player’s Guides. If you want an exploration of the martial arts system, with more edge case stuff covered, get Martial Arts. If you want prebuilt powers and equipment, get the Powers and Equipment books. And so on. Me? I’d just get Champions Complete and start there. You’ll know what you need next (if anything) once you’ve read and used that for a bit.
  22. People who know stuff and have relevant real-world experience tend to be biased against this administration.
