  1. Okay I wanted some input and ideas from others on my very first true champions game. Setting: Millennium City Story Plot: While the PCs are Shopping at the Local Ultra-Mall A Terrorist Group (Viper) Broadcasts a Message to the Public on all local TV and Radio Stations. Even the TVs in mall at Kiosk and in Stores show the message. " A guy in some kind of green and gold uniform Addresses those watching and listening, " Attention Citizens of Millennium City. Hours ago; before the mall was open, members of my group secretly entered the New Millennium Mall and planted many high yield explosive devices throughout it's various floors and shops. All Exits and Entrances are trapped as of the beginning of the broadcast, anyone trying to exit or enter the mall will set off a chain reaction of explosions. So I advice those shoppers to remain calm or die..." He continues, " I will detinate the bombs in 3 hours unless my demands are met. My demands are simple enough to follow, I want 1 billion dollars transfered to an offshore account which I will provide the police and city leaders with shortly. To the police and anyone stupid enough to try to interfear I warn you this one time only. If anyone tries to enter, exit or anything else and the lives and deaths of everyone in the mall is on your heads." And to show you that I mean what I say I give you this demonstration......." An Explosion rocks the outside north parking entrance. An Areal shot of the mall shows are huge portion of the parking lot in ruins and flames as vehicles are tossed about like bits of paper in a hard wind. The last thing shown is a huge Hummer launched towards the mall entrance and crashes through the doors. Idea: Viper is pulling a typical hostage situation for cash. My subplot is this is all a detraction for what they are really after. A secret shipment of nuke grade enriched plutonium<?> is passing through the city that day and Viper found out about it. they Do all the hostage stuff so the shipment will divert to a easier to grab travel plan around the city. The mess at the mall will (they hope) kill all the costume crews busy. Any ideas, input, or other stuff that might make this more fun?
  2. Re: I got some players!!!.... But I need some help.. What kind of limits should I put in for stuff? Like DCV and OCV, ED and PD and such when powers in the supplements show powers with 8d6 and 12d6 for attacks? What if a player is a brick or a Energy Projector? These are somethings I very much need some advice on. What would be some good starting limits and guidelines for powers, stats and stuff? 10 PD and ED max unless your a brick? 20 dex unless your a speeder or MA? 75 Active point Limit for powers? I was looking through powers from my Until SPDB books and some powers that use force fields have 15, 20, 25 and even 30 for PD and ED ratings. I would like to use these books to help my new players since it gives already made ideas but are these powers to strong? I get kinda confused right about here.....
  3. Re: I got some players!!!.... But I need some help.. A question about rules. should I use the hit location and wounding rules ? what combat rules would work good for a supers game? 350 points
  4. I have finally gotten my gaming group to give me a chance to run champians and hero system. And now I am somewhat at a loss for ideas.... Firstly, does anyone have an idea for a possible random plot generator? In a book maybe? or spreadsheet or something? One that is comic book workable.. Secondly, I am abit nervous about actually running this champaign. I am somewhat green to the hero system rules. I have been reading the main book for about a year off and on so I have a reasonable idea of what I am doing but I worry about screwing up. Any advice? Thirdly, Story outline? I was reading a thread about a "Beat Sheet"? someone uploaded a file but I couldn't get it to work. Might anyone have a good outline to follow for making a good story outline? Fourthly, I don't want to limit my players creativity but might there be certain things or guidelines I should follow or advise my players on when making their characters? Point limits or something? I am running a standard champians game with 350 point characters. One reason I was asking is because the only other time I tried to run a game in champians I got alot of players "not wanting to make my character too powerful"..... Ended up with people with no combat abilities..... Fifthly, My players are all new to this game system. They are used to Rifts by Palladium books. One player even stated "This will be just a Munchkin Game". I don't want too prove him right. So any advice? These guys are my friends and I want to give them a gaming experience that will make them enjoy themselves. Books I have. Until: Defenders of freedom Until: Super Power DB I & II Conquerors Killers and Crooks Millennium City Champions Universe Champions Genre Books Sidekick Hero System 5th Also some of the Ultimate books.
  5. Re: Champion?? I sure hope they drop the cookie cutter crap they force everyone into in City of Heroes.
  6. Okay, I am working on a mentalist and I want to give him TK. But I am unfamilar with the full workings of alot of things in hero. So.. 1. If I use TK to "Grab" some and suspend them in the air afew feet above the ground. Can they break free somehow? If so how? Besides putting a bullet throw my brain. 2. If I have TK and have someone "Grabbed" in the air can I use TK To punch them/crush them? If so can they parry or dodge? 3. how many things can I TK Manipulate at one time?
  7. One thing that has kinda upset me as a GM during the few times I have GM'ed was trying to get my players to into the game. I try running a super hero game and what do I get? Ex: Okay as you and your friend walk down the street after the late night movie a sudden explosion rocks you and you see flames and smoke raising into the sky afew blocks down the road. Moments later you hear people screaming as well. what do you do? Player 1: I don't know. I mean If I am not gaining anything from doing something about it I am start walking the other way. (a true statment) Player 2: Well I start running towards the fire and take flight into the air. (Good Boy) Player 3: I don't think I should get involved, since I am a reformed demon I don't see why I should go. (oh my god hand me a gun please) Why do I seem to always get players who would rather play disinterested vigilantes or the loner types instead of someone with a true hero spirit?
  8. I am just curious why you play or have interest in this Genre of RPGs? What is it about the stories, adventures, characters, etc or whatever grabs you where other game settings or genre don't so much or at all? I hope to get a better understanding so I might be able to spot a Super Hero Gamer experienced or not even broken in yet.
  9. I am working to make a special healer for my game. I will be using hit location rules so I wanted to add something other than the cleric healing people. so I want the empath. Empaths are highly attuned to other living creatures, allowing them to heal the wounds of others with a touch. Such powers have their drawbacks, however; since Empaths are so close to the pain of the living beings around them, if they so much as try to harm another living creature they will lose their ability to heal for a time. If they kill, such ability can be lost forever. That doesn't mean, however, that Empaths are barred from combat. Many choose the path of the Battle Empath, with defensive skills and abilities often outstripping those of the hunters they seek out to heal. How do I build something like this using the Hero System? Spell ideas I have had... Healing causes scar tissue for extra flavor. All these spells are self cast only unless otherwise noted. The empath must touch the victim and any healing is done by the empath taking the wound unto themselves. External Wound Healing The External Wound Healing spell will repair external damage to your body. Internal Wound Healing The Internal Wound Healing spell will repair internal and nervous system damage to your body. External Scar Healing The External Scar Healing spell will repair external scarring. Internal Scar Healing The Internal Scar Healing spell will repair internal scarring and permanent nervous system damage. Regenerate The Regenerate spell, as the name suggests, encourages your body to rapidly recover from minor wounds and scars. But takes some as it is full body and not limited single area, limb, etc. Blood Staunching The Blood Staunching spell temporarily halts the flow of your blood for a time. This is not stopping your heart beat but prevents bleeding to death. Cure Disease The Cure Disease spell will seek out diseases in your body and aid your immune system in eradicating them. Flush Poisons The Flush Poisons spell will assist your immune system in quickly ridding your body of dangerous poisons. Heart Link The Heart Link spell establishes a connection between your heartbeat and that of your patient. You can use this link to slow down the rate their heart beats, and how fast they bleed. This allows the empath to stabilize someone who is critically wounded and gives the empath time to work on the poor sucker. Death's Sleep All bleeding, poison, and disease in the bodies of those under the spell will be slowed significantly. Still, be careful that those you cast this spell upon do not bleed to death while asleep. Any ideas, advice, questions, or comments?
  10. I am abit inexperienced in the ways of the hero system. I have Star Hero, Fantasy Hero, a lot of Champions. Now while I can understand the more free flow form of the point payed system like champions, I get confused on trying to make lower point character/games. How do you pull of a respectful magic system when you have say 200 or 250 point character point systems?
  11. Re: Help Gauntlet I might not be of much help. But when I was younger I read alot of the GM and Player books for AD&D. One thing I enjoyed was a series of spells created by " Bigby ". Before I even played my first game, I had an idea for an Artifact Gauntlet which provided free and unlimited use of a form of these spells. A slightly over large plate gauntlet made for the right hand. Magically forged of pure adamantite (or whatever hardest metal your game has.) and lined with the softest and rarest silk. The metal is flawlessly smooth, always polished, without any adornment save for a large flawless and smooth diamond set into the back of the hand. This diamond glows blueish white when the magic of the gauntlet is used. The Gauntlet was created for an ancient king by a god who ordained his just and kind rule. The god told the king that the gauntlet was a symbol for his rule. To rule with a will as strong as the fist but a heart as the silk upon the hand. So it was the king and his descendants rules strongly and just but with kindness and compassion for his subjects. This is all that is known of the gauntlet of rule as it came to be called by scholars and historians. Just a thought I had and carry with me.

    2057

Re: 2057 I watched the show, I loved the tech presented and how it could save lives. The whole spending most of my money so someone can tell me how to eat, sleep, whom to sleep with, what I can or cannot drink. that crap! Bad Enough they are trying to run medicine as a business. It's costs more to have sick, unhealthy, disabled people constantly around. It would cost less in the long term to just fix everyone. No one would miss work because of a sickness, no one would have to not work because a family member is inferm or disabled and requires constant attention. Happy healthy Able Body people work better. To have the power/ability to help someone and not use that power/ability to help them is a sin. *Note* I am no putting down on the sick, infirm, disabled or handicapped.
  14. Re: (worst ever)...reasons to be a supervillain Why did I become a villain? Because I am immortal, have a beyond godly regeneration powers and I am a Masochism who loves having hot chicks in spandex beating me senseless . Why should I pay for something I can get for free?
  15. I don't fully understand something about the gaming population at large. I have been looking for players for a Champions Game and I have to say I feel I would have a better chance to find a winning multi million dollar powerball lottery ticket on the street then to find even one person who would play. I mean I find many gamers and they get excited about hearing a game is looking for players. BUT If I say the word "Super Hero" I get the dead fish look. Eyes Glaze Over. So what am I missing here? I don't understand reaction? Can someone Enlighten me?
  16. I am starting up a star hero low powered (150) game and well I am having some trouble with the weapons/equipment part. Since this is sappose to be a realistic ( with aliens ) game the players will have to buy their equipment instead of paying character points and stuff. I heard that Dark Champions has some kind of rule for a weapon pool or some such ? Can someone possibly message me with some info on this rule? It sounds like something I could use for my game.
  17. Re: Parasite-Host Power help??? So how do I "build" a multiform VPP? I need something with enough points to allow build the player to build 100 points for none mental stats.
  18. Re: Parasite-Host Power help??? So should I up the the transform damage? Keeping in mind that this is a normal human level game with 150 characters. The target host has to be armorless so the parasite can attach to the spinal cord and go subdermal. How whould I go about making this a prolong take over? instead of taking 1 phase orwhater to complete it will take several minutes possibly? what do I need to change to make the above correct? do?
  19. Re: Parasite-Host Power help??? thanks for the info so far, might anyone else have something to throw in? Or is this the only options? here is what I have so far, Major Transform 4d6 (Person into Host) (60 Active Points); 1 Charge which Recovers every 1 Month (-3), No Range (Target must be in phsyical contact.; -1/2), Limited Target ([slightly Limited]; Only Organic Lifeforms.; -1/4) Any ideas on the posion sting attack?
  20. Hi, Got a star hero game in the works and a player has an idea for an alien. It's a plant like organism like the snake thing from Stargate. Basicly I need some advice on how this would work in game mechanics language. The organism can transfer to anther host if it's current host is no longer viable. Or if it wants to it can transfer to a host when it finds a better one. Things to keep in mind. Transfering to anther host is very stressful to the organism. It takes the organism 1 month to recover before it can do anther transfer. When taking a host the organism can either take over the host. Doing this destories the new host's mind and leaves only parts of the brain needed to continue life fuctions of the body. The Organism has limited mobility. It uses a stinger vine that shoots out of a limb from its current host to sting the soon to be new host. This injects a powerfulneurotoxin into the victem that causes paralysis of the movement systems. Once the new host can't move the organism removes itself from the old host ( Read: Rips itself from the host along the spine area of the back. Old host body dies most likely. ) and moves into position on the new host and enters in through the back and takes over the nervous system. So with that in mind how do I make this? I am doing it in a 150 point game. I know this is a star hero topic, but I felt it would be better answered here. Power build questions seem to be answered here faster. Thanks for any help.
  21. Re: Seeking Concept Help - Magical Technologist? A Techno Mage? I know of anther game system I use to play had a TechnoWizard class. The boiled down version of the idea was simple. They took modern items like cars, plains, lasers, etc... and converted them to run on magic energy instead of normal stuff. Case in point. A Tech-Wiz finds an electric motor powered car. So he removed the batteries and some other power related systems, then installs a huge quartz crystal surrounded by several smaller quartz crystals and wraps the crystals in copper wire and links them to the central crystal. Thats the new power unit. He then enchant the unit with power and energizes it with a powerful ligntning bolt spell to charge it up. The car now will run for 1 month before needing a recharge from anther lightning bolt spell. And the sweet thing is? To a normal person the car will not work for them nor will they even understand it all. but the car will work for any other magical being with magic energy. Anther Case, A Tech-wiz gets a lazer pistol and converts the lazer system. Replaces the lazer part with a ruby and a topaz, replaces the power system with a 6 inch long quartz and silver wire. Throws in some blinding flash and there you go. 1 Magic lazer pistol that can shoot 10 shots before needing a recharge of personal magic energy/spell. And nonmagic types can't use it. So its not hard to get the idea. Think New Aged. Gut an normal item, throw in some crystals and gemstones then add some magic that kinda fits along the lines of the items normal function. But the item can only be converted to do what normally did. You can't convert a 6 shooting revolver to shoot lazers but you can convert it to shoot slugs of Telekinetic energy that hit hard like bullets but leave no cases. Just recharge the item with magical energy to reload/refuel. and if your interested, I think the game system was palladium Rifts or something. It's been a while.
  22. Re: Link to Disadvanage Database? Bingo, thanks!
  23. awhile back someone posted a link to a webpage with a huge collection of disadvantages. I forgot the link and was hoping someone to repost it for me please. thanks
  24. I have been pondering about a Star Hero game with 150 point characters. I want to make it lethal like a space marines game would be. All this I figure I can handle.... But when it comes to equipment. How do I figure out how much starting cash they would have. what kind of limitations do I put on equipment since I don't want a player balance problem. What other things should I keep in mind or have I not thought of?
  25. Okay, first adventure going to be my first Real GMing gig in a year and I haven't been vet before then. Basic story line is this.. Mutants haven't been around long and so people are fearful of what they don't understand so.... 3 mutants have been captured for study. They are being kept in a stasis sleep but a major power surge due to a hurricane hits the facility and knocks out the power and stasis fails. Mutants wake up in to a research station in the Flordia keys with a skeleton crew of people and their robot guards. I was kinda wanting to leave it open because I am not sure what the players will do or how they will react. Any advice or pointers? How about advice on robots and how to use them? I used a destroid from my Champians book as a model but modified/powered it down some. Maybe some plot ideas? I was thinking the hurricane would strike the island and cause lots of flooding to the facility and pose a risk to the crew. Something for rescue drama.
