AliceTheOwl reacted in Musings on Random Musings
Re: Musings on Random Musings
The behavior of certain people on the boards were getting me angry to the point that my blood pressure had increased dramatically, so I took some time off. I needed the break, so I took it.
At this time, I'm cool with pretty much everything, except for the fact that one certain person is still badmouthing me whenever and wherever he sees the opportunity, and all anyone else has ever said or done about it is waggle their fingers and say "That's not nice."
Me, I get lectured. Him? He gets an knowing wink.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER
Time for some post padding and humor making...
A group of Arkansas friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. that night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck.
"Where's Henry?" the others asked.
"Henry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail," the successful hunter replied.
"You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back?" they inquired.
"A tough call," nodded the hunter. "But I figured no one is going to steal Henry!"

I love her smile. While beautiful in pictures, it is something that needs to be witnessed in person to fully appreciate.

*hides*
but not for long . . .
Yeah, most people are. We like to be appreciated, especially when we're doing stuff we don't have to.
Personally, I remember being really crabby and tired the last five times I moved, and I took that out on just about everyone around me. Now, if Josh had said, "Hey, you're really cranky. Is it because of the move?" I would've bitten his head off. Instead, he very wisely waited until most of the hard part was over with and I'd gotten some sleep, and said, "Feeling better?" At which point I said yes, I was, and apologized for how snappish I'd been the last few days.
Not that that's an excuse. We should all treat our loved ones with respect and the appreciation they deserve all the time, no matter how pissy we are. But sometimes we forget.
Just give her a chance to remember. And if she doesn't, maybe you were right; maybe it's not worth it.
*shrugs*

In light of Doug's oh-so-sweet comment about me in another thread, a rare treat: a picture of me!

There are 5 other pictures of myself on Josh's site, too, but I'll leave those to the creative to find. I hate how I look in most of them.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
Here we are, having just finished off Viperia (I made an awesome roll on a killing attack, but we'd been chipping away at her for several phases). We've also just fought our way past several Viper agents with very dangerous weapons. My character, The Greek, is frustrated and angry because people keep using the Viper weapons to kill agents, and she has a CvK. And her chariot (which is built something like the chariot that carried the sun in Greek legends) vanished on her when she crashed it through a frozen security door, dumping her very unceremoniously on the floor.
So she calls up her chariot, and it takes its sweet time. When it DOES appear, she screeches, "Horses of the gods?!?!? Warhorses of the gods my ASS!"
Everyone lost it. And when they stopped laughing, they convinced me to share it here.

Re: Aging Campaigns
Regarding XP:
1) Points are very effective at lower levels, and get marginally less useful as a character advances. 10xp can help a 200pt character out a great deal, but doesn't help a 500pt character out nearly as much. And as mentioned, the villains advance too.
2) Focus XP, as suggested. If you would normally give out 3xp, let the players get one to play with, dump one into the team's base/vehicles, and dump the other one into individual or team contacts/favors, improved reputation, etc.
3) Restrict the xp you give out. Do more multi-session adventures, and only give out xp at the end. Instead of 3 2-xp adventures, do one 3-part 4xp adventure.
4) Any disadvantages that have outlived their usefulness? Have folks buy them off.
5) Any limitations that can be reduced/removed?

Nothing so rigid as a formula. It's sort of a "feel" thing...do I "feel" like doing it now, do I "feel" like there have been enough posts lengthening the thread, that sort of thing. Basically I'm trying for a "gentle incentive" to get people to help drive this thread to the #1 spot.
Of course, asking nicely sometimes works, too.

AliceTheOwl reacted to Steve Long in f/u Grab: Throwing & Squeezing after initial Grab
Re: f/u Grab: Throwing & Squeezing after initial Grab
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "either" roll. If a character attempts a Grab and misses, he's never going to get to the "Throw" stage of things in the first place, so the Throw rules don't come into play. Only if the character has to make an Attack Roll with his Throw -- either to perform it at all, or if he's trying to hit a specific target with the Thrown character/object -- are the "miss" rules going to come into play.
If what you're asking is, "Can a character Throw a Grabbed person in an effort to hit another target (such as another character or a specific hex), miss that target, but still inflict Throw damage on the Thrown person?", then the answer is "No." There aren't any provisions in the rules for that; a miss is a miss. The GM could alter that if he likes, but generally the rules don't let a character miss/fail and still obtain some measure of success.

Y'know, I'm not nearly as upset at the stupid, untalented skanks as I am the people who pay them the attention that makes these actions worth it.
Seriously, if I ever meet someone who says, "Oh, I LOVE Paris Hilton!" I'm screaming, "So YOU're the one!" and smacking the hell out of her. Or him.
