  1. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I'm so proud to be a Floridian. Manatee riding? 911 phone sex? That's weird Fla. And that's just the beginning. http://www.gainesville.com/article/20121227/WIRE/121229731/1034

  4. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore I ate at Wendy's for the first time in a year or so. I also ate at Wendy's for the last time in my life. <-- Me, literally.

  6. Re: Musings on Random Musings My grandparents were fastidious Irish Catholics. None of their children is religious anymore. I went to Catholic elementary school and had religion pounded into me every day. I was even an altar boy at one time. Not only am I not religious now, I'm decidedly anti-religious. The last time I was forced to go to church I was so uncomfortable I was shaking.
  7. Re: Jokes A paralegal sent me these today I've heard most, but not all. Why won't sharks attack lawyers? Professional courtesy. What do have when a lawyer is buried up to his neck in sand? Not enough sand. What is the definition of a shame (as in "that's a shame")? When a busload of lawyers goes off a cliff. What is the definition of a "crying shame"? There was an empty seat. How many lawyers does it take to stop a moving bus? Never enough. Have you heard about the lawyers word processor? No matter what font you select, everything come out in fine print. What do you buy a friend graduating from Law School? A lobotomy. What's the difference between a lawyer and a herd of buffalo? The lawyer charges more. What's the difference between a lawyer and a vampire? A vampire only sucks blood at night. What is brown and black and looks good on a lawyer? A doberman. How many law professors does it take to change a light bulb? Hell, you need 250 just to lobby for the research grant. Why did the post office recall the new lawyer stamps? Because people could not tell which side to spit on.
  8. Re: "Neat" Pictures Here's more of the baby-snatching eagle. Still don't know if it's real, but if it is, to the camera man's credit he runs to the child instead of making the video his priority.
  9. Re: Jokes As a former Catholic*, I can safely say that you're all going to Hell for reading that. * I knew too much.
  10. Re: Creepy Pics. Is that supposed to turn me on? Because it does.

(That's right... the duck truck got stuck.) I was looking forward to the duck, too. Oh, well. The important thing is that the butterscotch creme brulee is still on.
  14. Re: DC and Marvel: What Makes Them Different? In addition to othre observations here, for me it's always been about Spectacle. DC heroes are much more colorful and spectacular, their powers are more literally fantastic. In the costumes threads I've talked about heroes using logos and signature looks. DC heroes typically embrace this, where Marvel characters shun it. Marvel wants a more 'realistic' tone and that becomes more evident as we go along. Compare Superman and Captain America. Look at how their looks have evolved in the past two years. Superman has gone on to even more fantastic Kryptonian armor while Cap is trying to emulate real Earth soldiers more and more. It's a great example of the costumes vs uniforms discussion. Powers wise, DC is visually much brighter. Just compare the sheer number of characters in each company with flight, for example. DC has more energy projectors, too. Very flashy. Speaking of which, look at the difference between the premiere speedsters in each company. Every Flash runs hundreds of thousands of times faster than Pietro, no exaggeration. It's the difference between the speed of light and the speed of sound. No Marvel brick has ever moved an entire planet, even in the Silver Age, but a handful of DC characters have. This is not to say either one is inherently better, of course, it's just the general flavor difference I get when comparing the two universes.
  15. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I've been watching Bob's Burgers on Hulu. I thought it was cute when I saw the first couple episodes. Now that I've seen many more, I can say that show is brilliant.
  16. Re: Jokes If lawyers are disbarred, and clergymen defrocked, does it not follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged , models deposed, or dry cleaners depressed? Even more, bed makers could be debunked, baseball players debased, landscapers deflowered, software engineers detested, underwear manufacturers debriefed, and even musical composers will eventually decompose. On a different note though, perhaps we can hope that some politicians will be devoted.
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Ah yes, the female night elf dancer.
  18. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Two of the Super Globetrotters were pretty directly Impossibles: Nate Branch was Liquid Man/Fluid Man, and Geese Ausbie was Multi Man. Additionally, Twiggy Sanders was Spaghetti Man, who had a strong visual resemblance to Coil Man. I loved both of those shows as a kid
  19. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? No Reservations with Aaron Eckhart, Catherine Zeta Jones and Abigail Breslin. Strictly a by-the-numbers, unrealistic, eye-rolling romance. Meh.
  20. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Death first.
