I got an interesting compliment from my principal today. We had an assembly in the auditorium this morning. Our auditorium has a large main-level seating area, with a few rows of seats on each side rising to the balcony. The students were told to limit themselves to the main floor area ... and we know how likely instructions like that are to be effective. So I parked myself in a seat at the bottom of one side and put on my best "No" face.
It worked. Only one kid made a move toward where I was sitting. I looked up from my phone and into his eyes and said one word: "Nope." He turned around and found a seat somewhere else.
So I saw my principal on the way out of the building and she said she noticed where I had chosen to sit and appreciated that I had done so. She thanked me for keeping the kids where they were supposed to be.
