  1. Re: Pitch Black Books Fantasy Fiction Contest Thanks to Steve and the Hero crew for being so supportive. I'll be real curious to see what wordsmiths will do with interperting those pics.
  2. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. This character looks a bit like a jedi... and certainly folks could use it as such. But she is a interdimensional traveller from this world campaign by Greymankle (a player in our RDU game): http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30732
  3. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Another star wars commission.
  4. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. There will be NO shooting of the Tribble. He is a valued patron and I'm shocked at the mere suggestion. There will be NO SHOOTING OF ANY KIND, as all of you are potential patrons and I will not have the casual culling in order to get free art. Just because I can put Blood in a bank, doesn't mean I can pay the rent with it. Back to artwork Here is Blue Jay
  5. Re: Arcanus: Story Fun Read, Grey! I like the touch of 100 stories barely touches the sky... and only 2 million people. Gives a sense of what scale is expected.
  6. Re: Background skills I think often GMs ask for rolls to stall for time. And I love Savage Worlds, but i had the opposite gripe from players. They wanted more defined background skills to list. So they had a stronger sense of their characters. I came up with a house rule that gave them some flexibility and sorta free to not need more pts at chargen. Granted, Hero can go a bit overboard in its parsing.. as Neil suggested.
  7. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I would say 50% of my designs for EVERYBODY are versions of street clothes. I am still not communicating what I mean well. Street clothes is not the right words. But an homage to a bygone Detroit is. And athletic is... and that is color blind. I have a visual(s) in mind that I think would work. You'll just have to take my word for it.
  8. Re: Red Stars: campaign Sounds good to me. cyberpunk is not dead. It seems to be making a revival. Cyberpunk 3.0 is being playtested now (there is a thread on RPGnet) and from the sounds of it, it has made a lot of folks happy. Like the best of Interlock & Fuzion....if you can imagine that. Not that Red Stars should be Cyberpunk (R.Tal's system)... I think if you want to keep that Paranormal edge, Hero/Champions does that better... I suspect. I say that not having seen the Cyberpunk 3.0 playtest. Also, I own GoO's Ex Machina. There are about 4 campaign worlds in it... and I think 3 of them are outstanding. They really delve into how Cyberpunk has evolved, but isn't *really* dead. One campaign concerns a orbital "beanstalk" that sounds like it could fit easily into Red Star's past. I'll be happy to lend it to you, Grey, when you get stateside. Its got some really cool ideas to mine... even though I'm not a big fan of GoO's tri-stat system. And in a way, I think this new age of "Flat World" ala Thomas Freidman and global terrorism... makes Cyberpunk one economic/natural calamity away. So I think some of the issues of Cyberpunk are still quite relevant. Some are not... the new wave thang of the 80s is a bit played out... granted... so the "punk" aspect is somewhat missing. But genetic engineering, VR, networking, outsourcing, corporate espionage, privatization of gov't functions... all of this is happening in the Real World. Cyberpunk and/or Red Stars might be catagorized more as social science fiction with a bit of John Woo action now and then... and not be the "true" definition of Cpunk... but I think the moniker has stuck and can mean Matrix to video game concepts like Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. sorry for hijacking the thread.... we return you to your previously scheduled Red Stars Installments. Please reBoot your systems and reJaX your mind.
  9. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I think you missed the my wording and meaning "subtle". Granted, you can't see what's in my head. But Chango is NOT SUBTLE! If I wuz to revamp Kinetix, I would pay homage to some of the things I've talked about, but I think the character is 'sophisticated' and it would reflect in the costume. Of course, devil's in the details... but I happen to be pretty good at details. I would hope that is a *good* problem to have. At least from my end Means you still want me to do stuff.
  10. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. The one problem I see with Sirocco as a basis for Kinetix is this: I don't want to play the race card here...but as a person who lives 2 miles from detroit and I'm the white minority... it always bothered me that everyone on the Champions was white (sapphire's latina roots are not all that stressed because Detroit has a surprisingly small latin population...compared to other cities). Kinetix was a correction. Cool! A local, black, speedster Hero, the Champs team really needs this. So Sirocco would have to be modified so we aren't HIDING the fact that Kinetix is black. Easy fix, visually, just need to show some skin. And how to put this respectfully.... ...I think of Kinetix as a very sophisticated young man. I think in his place, I would want to pay homage to black america, street culture, Detroit, without pounding anyone's head over it. So, if I was to do Kinetix, I would actually design him more around some SUBTLE elements of sportswear and street clothes. I'm not talking MC Hammer and baggy pants... but NIke shorts and top, show arms and legs off. Colors would that look great with black skin are orange, red, yellow and certain greens. Do a fade on the outfit to imply speed. No hood on the head. He's black, he's proud...whether bald head or short hair or even cornrows... Wrap around sunglasses...and ode to our own Pistons. And I said subtle... it still has to look like a SUPERhero outfit. But incorporate some of his background, especially since detroit WAS DESTROYED... I think keeping Detroit alive would be important to Kinetix.
  11. Re: Red Stars: campaign Walker sounds like great fun too! Damn, Grey, you get down great backgrounds. With these two, sure, we can do firefights a bunker 12....but it seems like their real strength is canvasing the stardocks looking for an illegal arms buy. One question on Nathan... do we have dozens of languages and dialects in space? (ala Firefly, if you ever saw it, Chinese and English were in equal proportion)... or has the gateway mechanic of English being the language of science really filtered a lot of languages out of the AE. YOu might have mentioned this and I"m just blanking. But if there are lots of dialects and languages, Nathan better have some training in those or it doesn't matter what his face looks like, when Louisiana drawl or Minnisota twang comes outta his mouth. (not that he is from Louisiana or Minnisota, just using those as dialect extremes).
  12. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Someone requested Sirocco. Here he is. http://www.stornc.rpggallery.com/images/artfiles/SiroccoLoRes.jpg
  13. Re: Red Stars: campaign Just Devil's advocate: Just +3 - +5 with Disguise, sfx: sillyputty face. Welcome to Hero, where there are about 3 different ways to do any one thing. All a matter of taste.
  14. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. I've come to like Nighthawk. I just think of him as a Seattle Seahawk fan. And it in my mind, it is a kinda homage-homage to Alex Ross's Battle of the Planets artwork. In his hands, those costumes don't look goofy...they are kinda cool. I just try to do the same thing with Nhawk. I've sorta done my updates quietly. In champions battlegrounds, I gave Sapphire a long duster and I thought that really worked. Witchfire/craft/Solitaire's clothing changes slightly, but I've always kept the teal. I like Defender pretty well. I had a version many years ago that was a bit more intricate, but I liked better. In hindsight, I would like sleeker, especially in the helmet. I don't care for Ironclad, but that is rooted in the character himself. I do kinda like the Egyptian like motif. The strap across the chest works for me and the two-tone color is fine. I would have prefered a look that emphasised his alien nature... not a bumpy head mutant. Give him four arms or something. Make him all armadillo plated... to really earn the moniker "Ironclad". Hell, he is an alien gladiator *yawn, I hate that*... give him stretching powers and lots of HKA, spikes and blades, pitted and rusted... or something a bit more INTENSE than what he is. What would y'all do?
  15. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Stormshadow, Dr. Destroyer's assassin Lt., is an important figure in RDU. Neil asked me to update his look... so, here he is. And another Vengence! This time another assassin with a similar haircut as Stormshadow. that is just coincidence, as Stormshadow's pencils were done a month ago and Vengence II was done yesterday. This is Death Tribble's Vengence, as opposed to RDU's Vengence.
  16. Re: Red Stars: campaign No. Not in my opinion. If a girder falls on someone, or someone gets their jack ripped out... you just can assign dice on the fly. Is it painful, but not lethal? Normal attack. Is it lethal? Killing attack. If it is a consistent environmental thing... like getting a jack ripped out, just note that it does 2d6 dmg somewhere... or what have you. Then it is always 2d6 and is consistent. Unless unusual circumstances (electro boy melts jack with his electricity, you figure might do a bit more damage).
  17. Re: Red Stars: campaign Oh...absolutely. Love the backstory. I hope I can live up to the high standard that you put up there. Good name, I like Nathan...its different in this day and age. Names are very important to me, they are the first inkling of the character. Somehow this character named Ichabod Crabgrass wouldn't have worked . A very good friend of mine in NYC was LRRP in Viet Nam '67-'69 (pretty hairy two tours)...so it would be an honor to even playact in that tradition. One question, does the Mindlink with my squaddies also show some of the terrain that is reasonable to know? Like if we had a tenement building floorplan scanned in and loaded up? Obviously, if a deep valley of Gandymede has never been mapped... no go. This is a classic cyberpunk/military punk trope. And I think the modern military is getting prety close to that. But I'm not sure how one does that... Neil? Also, does LRRP have any training with vehicles? Starships? Do we crosstrain on that stuff, or is that the Navy's domain still. I would imagine SMGs would be an important tool for Nathan when in full military regalia. He needs to be lightly equiped... but pistols don't have the range or the volume of fire that is needed on a modern battlefield... I would imagine... unless more power is coming in small packages in your day and age. Really cool stuff! Write up Neils!!! I can't wait to see!!!!
  18. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.
  19. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. the foxes I grew up around where white, orange, dirty orange and dirty red-brown. Now, red-brown/ orange doesn't sound like an exciting superhero colors... but it can work. See: http://www.stornc.rpggallery.com/images/artfiles/FortuneLoRes.jpg If it was a commission to do "the Fox", I would probably lean towards a stylized helmet that had a white streak suggesting a foxes nose...but with a bit of an Art Noveau line to it. Streamlined, almost like a downhill skier helmet... no ears... we've seen enuff wolverine and batman clones. Emphasis the eyes with a bit o white around them too. But no more white. White is not a good color for stalky-slinky types.
  20. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. For Tim H.'s star wars character.
  21. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. NOW that is one of my favorites. But I don't think my pencils look like Alan Davis.... I've never copied anyone's style. But the combo of my pencils and inks sorta gravitate towards Alan Davis/Paul Neary at times.
  22. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. There. Did an avatar. It is my character in Neil's game, Vector. I like Golden and Kirby, btw, but they are far from my favorites. My favorites are too long to list here. Lets just say I respect Golden and Kirby mightly... but love? nah.
  23. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. LOL! I read this while waiting for the a in-Progress save of the upcomign drow queen/priestess for d.t. Yup... forthcoming all right... how about now?
