  1. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States It was a good game, but Damn. I mean, at its height, a turn was over two hours long. Next time, fewer replicants and more insects. Always a good thing. I mean, not as good as intelligent apes with laser cannons, but it is close.
  2. Re: Heroes from All Fifty States I vote for the following: NC - Capt. Albemarle IL - Chicago Chief MO - The Bagnell Catfish Chuck http://chuckgame.blogspot.com/
  3. Re: Ell Champion from Neptune City "Champion grabs the dumpster, and pushes it in front of himself towards the villain, blocking all the rifle shots. When he gets close enough, he'll jump out and hay-maker the fiend." Not long on imagination, but his method DOES bring home the bacon.

  5. Re: Neptune City Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Boston Hatfield reporting for Neptune City radio, live, in downtown Neptune City. I'm witnessing the aftermath of a mammoth struggle rivaling the skirmishes no doubt fought between the Titans and the Greek Gods of old. It appears that the masked hero, Jungle Commander, has just stopped Devil-Man from blowing up the Davis Building. Devil-Man's atomic fire scrambler has been destroyed, but fires throughout the upper stories of this majestic skyscraper are being reported. We don't need the reports, because we can see - and folks, I want you to picture it - the flames shooting out of the upper stories of this great edifice - the pride of downtown Neptune City. Casualties are still coming in, and they appear to be horrific. Folks, I don't know how to say this, but here we are in the modern age - 1943 - and such barbarity is possible. Thank the heavens above that we have heroes like Jungle Commander and the rest of the Neptune City Defenders to protect us from monsters like Devil-Man.

  7. Re: Champions Space Campaign Plot Ideas Plan for Dimensional Invaders. A rip in space occurs somewhere out near one of the gas giants, and a very large hive ship appears - an organic ship that carries hundereds of thousands of Hlung. Waves of Hlung warriors are sent to the nearest human bases to deactivate the defenses. Once the defenses are weakened, the drones arrive to begin draining the psi energy of the human beings that are left. The sorceror-queen is located safely within the hive ship, and directs the effort, and grants sorcerous aid. If there are any hardpoints that the warriors can not deal with, then the hive leaders will be sent to deal with it. If there are any hardpoints that the hive leaders cannot deal with, then the super hlung are dispatched (super villain level). At some point the heroes become involved and have to try to disrupt this process. The interesting part occurs when the sorceror-queen begins spawning new hiveships, each of which are equipped with proto-queens whose only job is to spawn new drones, warriors, and hive leaders. Super hlung can only be created by a sorceror-queen (of which there are only one in our galaxy - yet). Could be interesting. Any comments? Chuck
  8. Re: Champions Space Campaign Plot Ideas Here is a Hlung Drone. This is a wee beasty that would be dispatched by one of the Hlung Queen-Sorceror's many hives, and would serve the purpose of drawing the Psi energy (defined as EGO) out of humans. These guys would be escorted by a couple of warriors and maybe a hive leader. 14. Re: Champions Space Campaign Plot Ideas An idea based on a couple generate so far . . . "The Hlung, a curious race of extra-galactic beings, have just suffered a massive civil war, lasting nearly a thousand years, that wracked their galaxy. Now the sorceror-queen of the losing faction has teleported the remaining warriors and drones loyal to her all the way to the Milky Way, and have stopped in the outskirts of the Solar System. You see, the sorceror-queen now hungers, and she must feed on psi-energy that is only produced in this quarter of the Milky Way by human beings . . ." Given this, what do you think a Hlung warrior would look like?
  15. Re: Your Retired Champions Character Needed The following is a letter to the headmaster of CST: My name is John LeCycle. I am 17. Ever since puberty began for me I have had an unusual ability. At night, I am able to leave my body and travel through the city. Usually I just travel around the streets and see what's going on. A few times I've visited my girlfriend (well, the girl I WISH was my girlfriend). Nobody can see me, unless I want them too. Sometimes I visit some of the small stores near my dad's shoe repair shop. A couple of times I've seen some of the older guys from the neighborhood doing bad stuff. Once I got so mad, I was able to hit one, even though he didn't see me. Something weird happened to him, and he sort of got covered with a weird frost and stopped breathing for a while. I've found out that those guys are being forced to work for a local gangster who calls himself Mallet. I don't like him, and I've been trying to bust up his ring. I don't know if I should tell the police about this. I would like to come to your school and learn how to use my powers a little, and figure out what this is all about. Can you please help me? John
  16. Re: Another Hero in search of a name How about something that hints at the entropic state of the early universe, like Protean. In personality he can just be a big question (showing no emotion and not talking to people) and be called something enigmatic like "The Mode".

    The Five

Re: The Five Have you thought of creating some NPC heroes that have been hunting these guys for a long time? Someone who has a bit of knowledge and lore about them that the players can interact with when it comes time for a showdown?
  18. Re: One Bit Heroes and the Bay Area Disaster Zone Just a Thought. I find that Gritty, or Street-Level games always work best if you take (say) approx 150-200 points, and try to build a very well thought out and balanced individual with all sorts of skills, etc. Then take the balance of points and add on the super-powers, gadgets, and super-human characteristics. If you have some games where the players get stuck out of hero ID, then there is still a very interesting (sometimes more interesting) scenario. Chuck
  19. Re: Good-by Speedster "Ah Ha! Now I've got you, Mr. Go-Quick! I'll just activate my Gravity Transformation Bands, and you'll slow down like Molasses in January!" All accomplished with a handly little change environment, a couple of inches radius, with a bunch of minuses to all sorts of movement types in the region. The special effect would be increased gravity.
  20. Re: Name Help: Eyptian Sorceress villian Something that might be kind of cool to do, although it is getting away from the original idea a little... Do what Kirby often did. Come up with an Awfully Egyptian sounding idea, then change the names. This way you can have all the creativity you want. After all if you come up with a god called "Pectarius, the Hawk of the Sun" and make him Sort of like Horus, but with some other cool abilities, nobody can say that you are not representing Horus properly. -chuck
  21. Re: Champions Space Campaign Plot Ideas Thinking of some classic "space" oriented comic books - do you think it should be a "normal" (i.e. - organic) race invading, or should it be something weirder - energy creatures, polymorphs, extra-dimensional beings, etc . . .
  22. Re: Help Requested: Name my Canadian team and it's members Below I've listed a suggestion for a team name, and also names for your heroes. I hope this gives you some good ideas. Team Name: Northern Lights 1) Polaris 2) Aurora 3) Grizzly 4) Midnight Sun 5) Northwind 6) The Form (not canadian, but a cool stretcher name) 7) Iceblock -Chuck
  23. Re: Civil War I think I am definitely going to give this one a pass. I've been TRYING to like Marvel again, but this story doesn't do a thing for me. Civil rights? Sure - tackle that. But not this way. This story allows none of the main characters to be either super or heroic. What's the point?
  24. Okay, so I've been running an on-again/off-again space campaign for about 2 years now, and there have been some great plots. The Heroes have rescued a Sky City from being destroyed and plummeting to earth; they have stopped a plot to awaken a berserker weapon from an earlier version of the universe; hostages in an undersea terrorist attack on one of Saturn's oceanic moons have been rescued; most recently a plot to turn some of the Gas Giants in the solar system into gigantic star gates was foiled. I've got some ideas for new stories, and I have some loose ends to tie up (which I won't elaborate on here because I know that White Knight and Monolith are reading), but I am always looking for good ideas. Here is my request: given a Champions game set in 2756AD, where Earth is a powerful member of a multi-species galactic federation, and there are superheroes sworn to protect each of about a dozen major homeworlds, what might be a good plot idea to build a story arc around? Thanks, Chuck
  25. Re: Speed Force, too unbalanced? Hey - the Imbalance is the poor GM's mind who allows such powers in a game, and then gets upset when they get used. As a GM, be sure you know what you are letting in your game. Some powers and combinations of powers are just naughty, and the GM should think long and hard before allowing them.
