  1. Can we please keep politics out of this thread? I already unsubscribed from the one in the NGD. And I really don't want to stop following this thread, which I started, btw.

This was less about politics and more about how lame the media is.

  2. That is an impressive technological achievement, at a time when my interest in space travel has never been higher.

I agree. And no one is talking about it because Hillary Clinton locked herself in her hotel room in a drunken rage and our president elect likes to grab the opposite sex by the crotch.

  3. In light of Comey stating today that the FBI's review of Huma Abedein's emails does not change their recommendation to not pursue any charges against Clinton:

I'm still running into people (not here, in the "real world"...which is a strange and disturbing place) that don't seem to understand the extent to which this is a non-story. Specifically, there seems to be a lack of understanding of what the difference between a State Dept. hosted public email server and a privately hosted public email server would be.

The difference? Audit. That's it. They both would have been _public_ email servers. They both would have handled the same traffic. They both would have handled the same emails. They both would have been publicly accessible, with publicly known and determinable IP addresses. They both would have relied entirely on the users to prevent the transmission of classified information to non-entitled parties. That's the nature of a public email server. Classified information is handled on an entirely separate network (most notably, non-public). A State Dept. run email server would have been more easily audited....and that's it.

The entire non-story is about the notion that by running an email server that wasn't under the direct control of the State Dept. that emails may not be available for FOIA requests and/or audits by the feds. That's it.

As it stands, her emails have gone though more scrutiny than any other politician that I'm aware of (let alone Secretary of State). Between the FBI's investigation and the Wikileaks releases, it's an unprecedented level of review (both public and political). The results? She's an extremely methodical and planned/scripted politician. That's it. No smoking gun, no nothing.

That does not change the fact that she violated the rules by recieving her government emails in a non-government server.

Working for the Federal government, I run into a lot, and I mean a LOT of Fed employees who are absolutely gobsmacked that nothing is happening on the email front. They make us take training every year as to the policy on how to safeguard classified and sensitive information, I have taken the training six times now, and she basically violated every rule cited in the training. Just about everyone I know who has taken this training is flabberghasted at the results of her investigation.

  4. The Freemasons WERE the good guys before the illuminati infiltrated them. They were the remnants of the ancient gnostics, who were opposed to the Archons, but the Archons used the Holy Roman Empire to wipe them out and destroy their repository of knowledge at Alexandria.

The Nazis were the first to colonize space with the help of the Reptillians. Their swatstica shaped moon base made famous by the documentary film Iron Sky was eventually turned into an illuminati run moon base called the Lunar Operations Command or LOC. The vampires are simply Nazis who gave themselves over completely to Reptillian and Archon possession and their vampiric tendencies are necessary to feed the alien parasites living within their auric fields.

The Socviets have far more than Ape hybrid armies. They have all manner of Chimera. They are currently carrying out said experiments on various bases below the surface of Mars. Though the Sphere Being Alliance may be putting a stop to the horrible atrocities soon...

For a fun exercise if you are bored, google the bolded terms and prepare for entertainment.

  5. So, the Freemasons are the good guys, right?

ANd where do the Nazi vampires come into all this?

And what of the Soviet ape-hybrid army?

  6. ......oh wait, serious?

Then, again I didn't like them bringing back Darth Maul, and stealing *Ginkotsu's legs to put on him. They wasted the character, sure. But, you kill him off, you kill him off, to late to rectify that.

I could buy (actually I do) that Dooku gave him some training in lightsaber usage. But, the whole blood thing, meh. Otherwise, you have to keep Force users from donating to the bloodbank, or half the galaxy will be Force sensitive.

    *Character from Inuyasha

Well if you notice, Grievous didnt have any force powers. Just enough sensitivity to be able to use multiple lightsabers very well. I would imagine some kind of programming in addition to the cybernetics allowed this feat in addition to Dooku's training.

  7. What? But I thought the great ghost was only a conspiracy made up by the US government, that works in secret with the Mars-people? Or was that the Lizard-Man? Or the Illuminati?

    Lets get this straight.

The Illuminati WORKS for the Reptillians who in turn work for the Archons.

The original inhabitants of Mars came to earth after a massive catastrophe that stripped Mars of its oceans and much of its atmosphere and mated with the native homonids to create Homo Sapiens.

This isnt that difficult to remember, people!

  8. No, dark matter is for explaining the orbits of individual stars in a galaxy -- the visible mass of the galaxy is too little to account for the orbits of the individual stars.

I was pretty certain it was about the stars inside a galaxy being effected by the gravity of something outside the galaxy, generally speaking, surrounding the galaxy. Like perhaps cluster of dwarf galaxies. Numerous but individually too dim to notice on their own merit.

  9. Um, no. Not at all. As far as I can tell from the story here and from other sources, almost all of the 'new' galaxies are dwarf galaxies not properly accounted for in earlier estimates. The 100 billion galaxy number has been around for a long time, dating back to the days when the Milky Way only had a few satellite galaxies, instead of the 50 known today. And the mass contained there isn't quite enough to explain dark matter.

That many dwarf galaxies? 10 to 20 times the previous estimation? Pushing the number of galaxies from 100 billion to 1 to 2 trillion?

Also, it's the wrong shape to explain dark matter, since dark matter must be inside known galaxies to explain how they rotate. And certain other observed things I'm not actually qualified to explain

Wasnt Dark Mattr originally theorized to explain the movement of galaxies (not individual stars) in a galactic cluster, and wouldnt the presence of ten times the number of galaxies have a tangible effect on that movement?

  10. Sweep isnt a special skill. It is merely an optional maneuver. And it is exactly what is needed to simulate an animals Claw, Claw, Bite maneuver without jumping through ridiculous hoops.

And Sweep is reasonable since it drops DCV to 1/2 and takes a Full Phase.

Another move is the Claw Rake, which should be written up as a big HKA with reduced penetration and the power should be linked to the Bite.

The animal does a Grab maneuver with its bite. This allows the linked attack to go off that same phase if its successful. As long as the bite is mantaines, the animal gets a Claw Rake each phase and can also do bite damage once per phase till the Grab maneuver is broken.

  11. I would think that if I was running a Robotech Hero game, personally I would have my players play 75+75 point normal with NO EQUIPMENT, then as the GM I would supply them mecha, armor and weapons that were independent of their characters. Anyways, I will look at both options.

I would also recommend not paying for mecha and equipment. In a game such as Robotech, the characters equiment and mecha are not unique, it is military hardware and should he treated as such.

One problem with vehicles for Mecha is that SPD of the pilot influences the Running, Swimming and Flight speed of a vehicle. Let's say I ended up giving a Veritech a SPD of 10, and then used some math to calculate that to make the go at full speed I need to give him 40 inches of Flying. Well, then I give that low level Veritech to a player with a 5 SPD.... does that mean his Veritech only flies at half speed when the slow pilot is driving it?

    Yes and no.

The vehicles maximum speed is based on Speed 10. It moves on its own phases if the pilot "opens it up" and lets the vehicle go as fast as it can. However the pilot can only maneuver the vehicle (initiate turns, accellerate, brake etc) on his/her own phases, so a vehicle that has been allowed to go its max speed will essentially continue forward on its phases until the pilot can maneuver it on his own phases. There is less control in this method, thus most pilots limit the SPD of their vehicles to something that is more manageable.

I am tempted to give the Veritech extra Flight with the limitation "just to keep the jet flying at full speed when drivers with a low SPD pilot it" (-1/2).

Not necessary based on what I said above.

On the other hand if I made the character sheets specifically with the mecha as a focus I could easily tailor the running, swimming and flight to the SPD attribute of the character. A low SPD character would get more running than a high SPD character just so their jets all fly at the same airspeed!

I never like the idea of Mecha as a focus. It doesnt really simulate the way mecha operate in the source material. Mecha are vehicles and shouldnbe treated as such.

When a mecha is damaged, the mechas superstructure takes damage, not the pilot. The pilot should only take damage if the pilot compartment is hit. If other vehicles in the setting are treated as vehicles, but mecha are treated as focus, it creates a weird dynamic. This is a major disconnect for me.

Then again maybe ace pilots with a high SPD should be able to safely pilot their ships to go faster?

Yes. I have used Talents such as ACE PILOT where it adds a +1 or +2 speed bonus only usable while piloting their mecha (-1). Also, I tend to keep the speed of Mecha fairly reasonable. For Veritech, I have the Battloid form be Speed 4, the Guardian form Speed 5 and the Fighter form Speed 6.

If you look at the varioua writeups for Jet fighters in Hero material, they tend to range between Speeds 4 and 6.

  12. That makes even less sense.

    1) What possible information did Captain America have access to and time to examine about Iron Man's parents which Iron Man himself would not have gotten access to?

    2) Why would keeping the fact that Hydra killed his parents possibly give Iron Man any "peace" as he gives as an excuse?

By throwing the guy she already had the explosion under control with at the only skyscraper in Lagos? That was her only option?

The bomb had already exploded and she was using her powers to contain the blast and she was straining to do so. There were too many people in the market, so she attempted to lift the explosion with her TK high enough to release it, but her TK barrier collapsed too early and it was still next to the skyscraper.

She didnt throw it. She raised it, but the bubble couldnt contain the blast any longer.

  13. 700 sextillion stars. That's...700,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars. I wonder what this does to the idea of "dark matter" and "dark energy". I mean, we just "found" the missing mass!

Essentially yes. They always said that 90% of the mass was "dark". If there are 10-20 times the number of galaxies, then there's the answer. So Dark Matter is a non starter, but that still doesnt solve the "dark energy" delimma

  14. The critical hit/success optional rules help simulate this concept quite well.

Basically, if you roll lower than half your chance to hit or succeed, the roll is a critical success. For example, if your chance to hit was an 11 or less, a roll of 5 or less is a critical success. As the roll gets higher, the chance increases signidicantly. Boosting your chances to 20 or less yields a critical hit chance of 9 or less!

The effects of a critical success vary depending on your action, but in general if it is some kind of dice action such as an attack or Entangle or Transform etc, then the Dice are automatically maxed out for the effect. Thus a 6D6 energy blast on a critical hit automatically causes 12 Body and 36 Stun. A 2D6 Entangle is automatically 4 Body and a 3d6 Transform is automatically 18 "body". Other effects are generally determined by the GM, but can include such benefits as reduced endurance expenditure or a small boost in power to represent the increased effects of a crit.
