  1. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Hey Everybody, Could somebody please repost the picture of the big Mommoth guy pushing a tree over. Seems i've lost it and it's not showing up on the past posts- it'd be much appreciated.
  2. Re: Who homages the Watchmen or those the Watchmen homaged?
  3. Re: Seeker vs. Nighthawk- THE REMATCH! I like that background a lot i have to say. In my campaign Team Defender (led by the fearless Glen Harmon) joined the Champions after the death of Defender (I'm still keeping it murky as to how he died- use that later.) and has joined a team of Champions where Ironclad and Sapphire are the 'voices of experience' (believe it or not) for the younger heroes. Nighthawk and Witchcraft have left the group entirely to deal with various issues. Although they still keep an eye out to act as reserve members if nessessary. Now Sapphire has to ride herd on a group of young turk Supers which she has no idea how to do. Makes her much more interesting! (P.S- I've read Sapphire's background through and in no way does she resemble Britney or Christina. I always thought of her as Shakira or Beyonce- y'know someone who appeals to people other that 16yr old boys and pre-teen girls.)
  4. Re: Seeker vs. Nighthawk- THE REMATCH! Sorry, don't have WOTD any more- wish i did. And for the record i liked some of the New Millenium Champions. Quantum was a kick-ass leader, we had Team Defender which one of my PC's is currently using the idea for and a shape-changing magical brick-Behemoth! New Seeker was...interesting but i never really liked the character that much to begin with so maybe he offended others more. I didn't like the re-done Solitaire though- all in all i think they made the right choice in 5th edition to drop some of the ideas and come up with new ones.
  5. Just going over some of the old posts and found that this thread popped up a lot- so in light of Nighthawks updated stats in Champions NOTW could he give Seeker (WOTD version) any trouble now? Also on a seperate point does anyone actually like the Champions: New Millenium Champions as much or more than either 4th or 5th version Champs. There you go- two threads in one!
  6. Re: starter villains If you have VVV for your campaign then either the Brain Trust ot The Crimelords are ideal for what you describe, depending on if you want a mastermind plot or something more simple. GJ
  7. Hey there, Anyone know why there's no Ultimate Mystic PDF at the Hero Store, i'm just itchin' to buy it. Now i just have this odd sense of sadness:confused: Oh, Well
  8. Re: Wings of the Valkyrie... one more time. GJ Here, Of course i technically know that Copyright just doesn't go away, but i also don't see why some things such as Millennium's End is seemingly OK to publish and this out of print supplement isn't. I am dead set against most kinds of online piracy, especially RPG wise, i once saw a Gadgets And Gear free download on a website- that's just plain wrong. All i saw was a bunch of guys chewing over a great supplement they all USED TO have and could no longer get. That sucks too. All I'm saying is that i am kind of tired of RPG companies not republishing old supplements in pdf form when theres clearly a market for it. It's almost certainly more complicated than that, i know. But i do find it frustrating. Invaders From Below, Mystic Masters, Watchers Of The Dragon- all these things seem to be forever beyond the grasp of some of us. It just sucks. Anyway, sorry for my earlier (mild) sarcasm, it was in no way meant to be offensive and i apologize. Wings of the Valkyrie is a pretty cool supplement, though. They should definetly re- release it.
  9. Re: Wings of the Valkyrie... one more time. Hi My understanding is that this book is out of print, not been sold by any company and that there are no future plans to re -release it any time soon. The only place copies are being sold is on Ebay. On the Dark Champs board i downloaded some out of print Espionage stuff for free, pretty much. Maybe i'm a bit slow but i don't get the distinction- a hard to obtain product that everyone wants and here i am with a free copy. In fact, forget about it...it sounds like an awful idea. GJ:king:
  10. Re: Wings of the Valkyrie... one more time. Um... OK, That went wrong- was supposed to post link to Wings Of The Valkyrie pdf i have. I'll try again later Shoot! GJ
  11. Re: Wings of the Valkyrie... one more time. Got this free off of a Torrent Enjoy! GJ Do i get repped for this?
  12. Re: Lame Superhero Rollcall Without a doubt Fantomex- Waters his head, wears stupid white rubber suit and his mutant 'gift'- a ship flew out of his mouth. (At least he claimed it was his mouth- could've been another orifice...). Also under the delusion that women are actually attracted to him after mere minutes of conversation (it's the tilt of there hips, you see...). And mysteriously Prof X is unable to read his mind (possibly because it's absent). Proof positive that Grant Morrison can occasionally come up with a truly stupid, lamea** character. Fantomex is unforgivable because he thinks he's so amazing, but really isn't.
  13. Re: Red Sonya/ Conan Great! Thanks for the Conan stats. Plus the bonus of Solomon Kane! Excellent, again my thanks. As for of Red Sonja i was really looking for the Sword and Sorcery type adapted to the comic books rather than the original historic fury that Howard briefly wrote about. Anyone know where i could find stats about that Red Sonja. GJ:king:
  14. Can anybody tell me where to get where to get Champions stats for Red Sonya and Conan. I'm starting a Crossworlds campaign soon and want my PC's to meet 'famous people' on there travels. I'd be grateful for any help. GJ:king:
  15. Re: Algernon Files Plot Seeds, anyone? On behalf of SkeletonMan- 1) Instead of having Protorean working for Istvatha V'han as Lord Liaden suggested, an alternative would be having the two of them battling over the same dimension which has some strategic advantage to them both. (The Old Doctor Who plot Sontarans vs. the Ruetens plot). 2) There was a team of female demons called the Hell's Belle's in one of the M&M magazines. Although they were absolutely nothing to do with the Algernon Hell's Belle's- in my game i used the idea of an evil version of the band summoned by some villain ( perhaps Purgatory's father) to discredit them. In this plot the heroes would start out chasing the real Belle's before later fighting alongside them against the evil(er) version of the band. 3) Taking the Prometheans and removing Dr. Prometheus (interesting character but very much a Silver Age idea.) and breaking up the team, having them act independently or in small groups most of the time, (this could make the group more useful if you are running a low-power level or Claremont style game).
  16. Re: The Worst character in comics LOBO, it's gotta be. I'd pick him over Wolverine because he thinks he's SO DAMN COOL when he's not. And they keep on changing how powerful he is. And he's basically a 'hard biker in space' type- what an original concept! Like 'Rocket Racer' and his jet powered skateboard. And this guy supposedly fights Superman The Biker Mice From Mars are cooler than LOBO. Also enough of the Cable bashing- we now have your opinion, so you can move on now. Find a new joke.
  17. Re: The Worst character in comics Posted on behalf of SkeletonMan who doesn't have his own login yet: "The Authority- used to really like them, in some ways still do but they suffer from convoluted powers that act as a crutch for writers and their poor story lines. I was originally upset that they killed off Jenny Sparks, the best character but I'm glad she left before the new writer (Grant Morrison i think) took over and suddenly the characters are trying way too hard to be cool/edgy (a common theme with GM) and able to do wonderful things with over the top new uses for their powers. e.g- Hawksmore and Swift, both started off in Stormwatch and went from being sort-of powerful to JLA level seemingly overnight." (Having not read most recent stories, can't past judgment on them). Really surprised that nobody mentioned Captain America (waits for chorus of boo/hiss, how can you hate the Cap!). Maybe it's because I'm not American but i find his character uninteresting, having stock responses to any given situation and having gone more-or-less unchanged since he started out. Look how other characters have evolved over time. Other Boy Scout types like Cyclops/ Superman at least seem to change a little even if, in Supes case they usually get undone. I'm not against American patriotic characters, i really like the Patriot (from Brave New World RPG- great character.) Bishop- Where to start! Just like with Authority but worse, at one point this character had defined powers and a definite goal. He even used to have a deep respect for his fellow X-Men, legendary (emphasis on legendary) heroes from his time. Now he seems to be able to do almost anything, suddenly he has complete knowledge of the powers and weaknesses of most of the X-Men, how he gained these insights isn't made clear since he didn't seem to have any of this information when hunting for the traitor in the X-Men's midst. Other characters such as Longshot who have a clearly defined storyline leave when that storyline is resolved. Separate point- Hate it when writers develop characters "off screen" in other plot lines in other comics, which is great if you follow all of them but stupid if you say, like Nightwing but don't follow every Bat comic or every DC title. The only reason Nightwing isn't included here is because the character is still interesting even though every so often he changes city, motivation, love interest- almost always in another publication. (The destruction of Bludhaven- if you just followed Nightwing you completely lose track of whats going on.) A lot of people seem to dislike the new Spidey plot during Civil War, but i could follow his comics without having to buy all the Civil War titles- (Iron Mar, Thunderbolts, X-Men, HFH, etc).
  18. Re: The Worst character in comics Yeah! Damn i forgot all about Spawn and Savage Dragon, Good One! I never, ever understood why people went crazy about Spawn, the idea of his origin was okay but the best thing about the comic was the two cops- i forget there names. Andthe best Savage Dragon title ever done was the mini-series done by Jason Pearson - it was the first thing that i read with SD in, it actually read like a super-cop story-i.e edgy, witty and intelligent. Then i went and read all the Eric Larson stuff and it wasn't half as good. There does seem to be a genuine problem when artists get to make up their own characters and get to run with them, both examples above disappeared up their own a** after about...12-20 issues, I'm estimating.
  19. Re: The Worst character in comics I also have to defend Cable and Scarlet Spider a little bit, after all SS is just Spider-Man without the back story weighing him down. How you can hate a character who is basically the SAME CHARACTER as Spidey puzzles me. As for Cable, there are other X-Men who offend me even more: BISHOP- What is this guy still doing here? Yey he saved the X-Men now kill him off already. I'm sick of him and his expert martial artist/ detective/ bounty hunter/ edgey X-Guy thing. District X tanked for a reason. And his power? 'Actually i can absorb massive amounts of raw energy- kinetic, electric or even psychic(?)' and Havok for the simple reason that he's STILL got an inferiority complex about his big brother, oh and for treating Polaris, the woman he supposedly loves, like dirt. Overall i'd agree that underwater people leave me kind of cold as character concepts, they're just too limited. Although hate Aquaman A LOT more than submariner. A lot more. But for my money some of the Avengers are pretty dire- (Triathalon) and i know i might get some stick for this but here goes-Giant Man (Or Ant Man, or Yellow Jacket) the guy grows AND shrinks using something called Pym particles!! Come on, he's worth a mention. GOJ
  20. Re: Teen Champions Villians Oopps! It's just been pointed out i spelt villains wrong on my posting. Still, it would probably snarky to wonder if the person who posted it hasn't got better things to do...like join the debate. Have to agree with the 'Teen heroes fight Bulldozer' suggestion, just to give them a shock. Also the PC's could end up seeing the same villains they fight as Adult heroes differently. Having a run-in with the same squad of Viper goons a couple of times, maybe flesh out the Viper goons personality a couple of times. How often do adult supers pay attention to the nameless Viper thugs around them? I've got a few other ideas of how to refocus on a superVILLAIN in a different way, like turning Freakshow in a slasher villain, horror type that can threaten an entire swarm of teens when he usually runs away from the adults who could easily tear his nutts off. Point is, by refocusing their opponents i think it would encourage Pc's to refocus a little, get into their characters a little more. Any thoughts? GJ:D
  21. Re: Teen Champions Villians Hi There, Have to say i like the "mostly serious teen setting" with campy/comic elements. The super teens shouldn't really know how dark the world can get, at least at first. (Personally i wouldn't even think about putting Crowns Of Krim, Takofanes or any other murderous highpowered villian anywhere near the pc's.) I liked the Motor City Defenders a lot more than Homeroom Alpha, although i think they work well in the same setting; but normal school seems more interesting than super-school a la X-Men. As for teen villians it's all well and good to say that Adult super villians undrestimate the PC'S, but how long is that gonna last. Once or twice; then they won't take any chances and soundly thrash the poor kiddies. Also there's the 'Power Pack' effect; remember when Sabretooth lost to Power Pack? How the hell was anyone supposed to take him seriously after that- thrashed by a bunch of kids! I just see Pc's who play a couple of campaigns having long memories "Yep, Talisman veeerrryy scary, but didn't you get your butt handed to you by Homeroom Alpha?" ( Wait for Talisman's impotent scream of rage.) What TC could have done with is a few ideas of how to intergrate adult villians with teen supers- emphasising foiling their plots and fighting their goons. I do tend to hate it in the comics when a really nasty villian who fights the Avengers or JLA toe to toe gets taken down by some nobodies with no apparent explanation- it really damages that villians credibiliy. But i've got a couple of ideas for villians who focus on teen issues (not in a boring way!) if anyone wants to here them. GJ PS- Thanks for the suggestions so far- especially Remjin- Kudos
  22. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Just a few of the things my...challenged group have gotten themselves in to: Player trying to interpret the results of an Ouija board PC:“I’M A DE HIM?” incredulously. Long hard stare from GM. (Pause) PC: “Oh ‘I made him” sheepishly. PC: So he’s unconscious? GM: Yep, you got him, Jagged Bow’s out! PC: (irrationally angry for no apparent reason) O.K I’m gonna jump down onto his head. GM: Huh? PC: I wanna jump on his head!! GM: Um…Crusader you do have a Code Against Killing. PC: I make an EGO roll to overcome it! (several messy dice rolls later.) O.K…He’s dead, you’ve killed him. Make another Ego roll! – O.K Your characters experiencing traumatic flashbacks and weeping in guilt at this cold-blooded and senseless murder. -PC looks very bemused- what? But why? (Several normal people suddenly find themselves trapped in a Fantasy setting surrounded by guardsmen) GM: O.K these guards turn towards you, brandishing crossbows. Goth Chick: What are we gonna do? Action Star: Don’t worry, I’ll handle this! (Confidently steps forward as Goth hides behind him.) GM: The guards point their crossbows at you. They obviously think you are in charge, being confident and well built. Action Star: Um…I surrender (meekly). Goth Chick: Ah Crap! (At same time…) Average Joe: Jeff’s just normal, he’s panicking and running. GM: Which way’s he running? AJ: Um, just randomly. I guess I’ll roll. GM: (Consulting rules) O.K, you’re running…left. Ah, towards the men with crossbows and they shoot you…in the leg. AJ: Why? Why me? PC 1: (panicking) Where the hell are all these zombies coming from? PC 2: Um… I d’know. PC 3: Well, what was in that shed you looked in, we could hide in there. PC 2: But it’s full of dead corpses. (Rest of group looks at him in disbelief) PC 2: Oh…right.
  23. Het out there, Just wondering if anyone else is interested in more Teen Champions villians, i thought the TC soucebook had a lot but really lacked some crazy villians for heroes to fight. I'm thinking like the ones Teen Titans (cartoon) fight, or Static Shock. Anyway i'm looking for ideas Ideas for teen oriented adventures would be cool too. Thanks
  24. Re: Marvel's Best Martial Artists OK- First off if we're going to have people like Captain America (superpowered! Super soldier serume) then we should have Spider-man. Spidey could whoop the Captain any day of the week. (He's basically military trained- all martial, no art- same with Fury and Punisher) Going for characters who rely on skill rather than Strength/Powers, heres my list. 1) Shang Chi 2) Electra/Bullseye/ Stick 3) Iron Fist 4) Psylocke (trained by the hand! Just like Electra) 5) Batroc/ Zaran 5) Black Panther/ Red Skull 6) Moon Knight 7) Silver Sable 8) Storm (led the x-men for a while without powers!) 9) Mystique/ Viper 10) Wolverine/ Lady Deathstrike (only included because even if you took away their powers their training still puts them in the big leagues)
